Baby Knits for Beginners

Wonderful knitting book for baby patterns
My Mum knit several of these pieces when my kids were babies, 15 years ago. I just bought a copy for myself to knit for some friends. The patterns are classic and easy to understand. I normally buy my patterns from a website online, this book is worth getting!

Great Patterns For Beginning Knitters
I had checked this book out several times at my local library when I first got back into knitting but could not find it at the bookstores to purchase. I was so excited to see Amazon had it for sale. I love all of the simple yet elegant looks that Debbie Bliss put into this great book. My first project is going to be the jacket with the seed stitch bands on page 82. Her illustrations and instructions look easy enough to follow. This is a must to have on your shelve or to give as a gift.

Good solid book
I looked at a lot of books by Bliss before I settled on this one - it has some really nice projects. I wasn't necessarily a beginning knitter when I picked this up, so some of the projects weren't attractive for me. But I have done the boat-necked sweater, the cashmere booties, and the umbilical cord hat (several times, to the delight of friends). I'm about to start on the garter-stitch cardigan. It would be nice, though, to have diagrams showing how the pieces should turn out/be blocked. I've used different yarns with a lot of success - don't think you have to stick with her yarn. I'd recommend this book. The simplicity and elegance of the projects make them classics, and you could easily add your own touch to any of the items in the book.

Didn't really love
Kind of disappointed with this, there aren't a ton of easy patterns and the ones that are in the book are pretty basic and not very creative. There are cute sweater patterns but I don't think I am there yet, so we'll see. Left wanting more.

This in one of my favorite knitting books and I am no beginner
This in one of my favorite knitting books and I am no beginner. The projects are perfect for baby gifts as they are simple and classic. The problem I have is that I never received my order of the book. I own it and love it so much that I wanted to share it with my sister's friend who had recently had a mastectomy and wanted to learn to knit for her baby. I will be passing along my beat up copy of the book.

Love my book!
Love this knitting book for babies. Not just for beginners either. Has really cute items in it to mark for that "special" little someone.I borrower the book from the library - then decided it was so good that I had to have my own copy. So where do I go - Amazon! And found book in excellent/ like new condition at a fraction of retail price.

One of the best baby pattern books
I have made the baby boat neck sweater and matching hat many times and with many different yarns. It is always a big hit with new mothers . It is very simple to make, has easy to read directions and can be changed up easily to adjust sizes, add stripes, embelishments or just knitted as written.I highly recommend this book for beginners.

Disappointing and Confusing
The projects in this book are adorable! Sadly the title of this book is very misleading.I have some knitting experience but thought this would be a great way to start on garments that need to fit.A baby sweater?! I thought it would be a quicker, less expensive way to learn to make a sweater. The patterns seem almost cryptic. At first I thought maybe they would make sense to only experienced knitters but have found that is not the case. Even the most experienced knitters seem to "guess" at an interpretation.Unfortunately I have purchased a couple of Debbie Bliss books before trying a pattern out. Big mistake.I would recommend really looking over a pattern before buying the book.Good luck!

Well written and illustrated
I bought this for a friend who wanted to start knitting. Easy reading and good explanations. The font is a nice style with good line spacing and the descriptions are short and clear with good illustrations, making it pleasing to follow. The only thing it di'dnt include was how to block your knitting before sewing up, but otherwise I couldn't fault it. The patterns in the book were lovely and clear to follow. I would definitely recommend it for anyone thinking of learning to knit or who wants to progress into something more technical than a basic square. It makes knitting look easy and exciting. Unfortunately, I have been knitting for years, so I am unable to see it from the perspective of someone who has never knitted before, but as I said it seemed to cover all the necessary points in very clear detail and it inspired you to start one of the projects.

Teach yourself to knit with this book
Very impressed with this book, suitable for absolute beginners and I taught myself to knit using this. Easy clear instructions on all aspects of knitting e.g. Increasing, decreasing. The patterns get increasingly harder as you work through the book, the only downside is that many of the patterns use Debbie Bliss wool mixes of which there aren't any cheaper alternatives. Debbie Bliss wool is lovely but works out very expensive.

Lots of beautiful different designs
Lots of beautiful different designs. Kind of difficult for a beginner. Alot of complex stitches and alot of info to learn. I was hoping for more simple designs unfortunately :(

Not so good if you don't want to use Debbie Bliss own yarns
I agree with previous reviewers that the patterns are lovely, and the intructions and diagrams are clear. However I object to the fact that all the patterns tell you to use Debbie Bliss yarns without explaining what the equivelant would be if you did not want to (e.g. it took some research to find that 'Debbie Bliss cashmerino' is actually a 4 ply yarn). I don't want to use Debbie Bliss yarns because most of them seem to contain wool. I am allergic to wool and would never consider knitting a garment for a tiny baby using anything with a wool content.
