I’ve owned this for a year and a half now, so this isn’t just some “I got it out of the box and it’s so cool” review, this is what it’s like living with over time.I’d grown up with, and prior to this had always bought, the cheap big box store stuff. Nothing wrong with that, but I was always a little curious what just a little more cash would buy you. Is there a point in spending $30-100 on a reel if the $10 Walmart special rod and reel combo gets you fishing?I can unequivocally say, yes there is…at least in this case. This reel is super smooth, silky almost. The drag is highly adjustable and not at all the “it’s either practically not there or it’s not going to spool line out even if you caught your neighbors pickup” that I’ve experienced with cheap reels. I was able to cast further, and have yet to experience the “bird’s nest” tangles I have with the bottom of the barrel reels.Adding to my positive experience with the reel, is my positive experience with the company. My wife took a tumble while we were fishing and dropped the rod on a rock, which broke the reel handle. I emailed the company, knowing the reel had a one year warranty and that it was technically broken through no manufacturing flaw. I offered to buy a replacement handle, and instead they sent me one for free. I know that might not seem like a big deal to some but that sort of service is something that you don’t always find, especially if you’re not buying the highest of the high end.All in all, the reel has held up well, it’s caught a lot of fish, and it’s a tactile pleasure to use. The customer service is great and the price paid was extremely reasonable for all you get. For anyone on the fence about buying a slightly more expensive product than what you might find at your local big box retailer, take the plunge. What you get with this reel and this company makes the additional outlay of cash more than worth it.

Love this reel! I am not an avid fisherman by any means, but from what I have tried, this one has really smooth cast and retrieve actions and no issues so far inspite of having it dipped in the water few times. The price is right too. Would definately buy it again.UPDATE: I've owned it for almost 2 years now. Bought another 2 recently. I actually enjoy the foam-like material of the handle - makes it lighter and non-slip when hands are wet. Another thing I can say now, this is one of the lightest reels on the market & it is made out of quality materials and not plastic. Price has gone up a bit, but as much as I hate that part, the product is worth it! Way to go Cadence!

Do a lot of crappie fishing. Great for braid. Did back fill spooks with 8 lb mono. And took 140 of the braid. Built sturdy and didn’t have to tighten the handle once secure

Excellent light weight reel. It pulled in a 18" large mouth bass without a problem. Great reel at a great price. And to the sellers... Bravo! Fun Fishing Gear provided excellent customer service. I lost the drag knob, in the water... so when I reached out to the sellers to purchase this part, they just sent it to me free of charge. You really don't find good service like that anymore. Thank you so much. You have a customer for Life!

I don't often write reviews on products, but I feel like Cadence as a product/company deserves one. I keep these reels rigged for my grab and go farm pond fishing, off species fishing, or spares for the kids and friends to use. I had these reels out on my bass boat front deck all weekend for the kids to use while camping. When I got home to switch out the gear back to my tournament stuff, I noticed that the dust covers for the reel handles were missing on two of the CS4's. I don't know if the kids fiddling with them caused them to come off, or a few rough trips on the water caused them to come off. It didn't matter. I emailed Cadence and had a response within a few hours. Without hesitation, they had replacements in the mail at no cost. This support is why I am giving the product 5 stars. If they are willing to provide support for a $40 reel, that they had no fault in, that says a lot.~happy customer

I bought the cs4 1000 for my grandson (5)...it has a very smooth action and very easy to close the nail with the handle after casting - he’s been very pleased with it - he’s very picky about how smooth a reel is too! Unfortunately the handle came off and was lost - we asked cadence on a Sunday about a replacement and they sent one the next day at their cost - great service & value! Thanks cadence!
