2" X 2" 6061 Square Aluminum Solid Flat BAR 6" Long +.1"/-0 T6511 New Extruded Mill Stock

I purchased this as a demonstration piece for my natural science class. The reason I went with this particular offering was that it was about $8 cheaper than much shinier looking pieces that also included a flat plate I didn't need. My choice turned out to be penny wise, pound foolish. What arrived was a scratched, burned, numbered, scarred block. There was not an intact surface on it. The ends were heavily grooved and looked like they may have been cut by hand, rather than machine saw. Fortunately this was aluminum, and after applying a full pack of 220 grit sandpaper and some elbow grease (and earning a blister in the process), I got the shiny block I originally thought I was ordering. If you're going to be milling, drilling, or otherwise grinding this then it might not matter to you, but just be aware that it arrives without a single smoothly finished surface. If I decide to add any other metal blocks, they will be purchased elsewhere.

Material quality appears to be very good. The machined deminsions were accurate. I deducted one star for several nicks and burrs on the edges and a scrape on one of the flat sides. The bar was wrapped in two layers of light bubble wrap and shipped in a plastic mailer envelope.

The blocks were used to demonstrate Lenz's law by dropping neyodium magnets between two vertical blocks. The fall is slowed down by induction of electrical currents in the bars who magnetic field opposes the change. Kids have fun with it. It is better than dropping a magnet in a copper pipe because it is easier to see.

I've never even attempted something like this...I was an aircraft electrician in the Navy...but watched the metal benders enough to give it a shot. I cut 3 blocks out of this and made separate manifolds for my train horn for the Jeep since the horns came on a single manifold. Some drilling and tapping and they work perfect!

As expected

Nice faced polished piece of 6061 for small parts or projects consistency looks good. Haven't checked the overall tolerance or flatness as it comes stock. Likely I won't as I usually buy oversized to fly cut the surface before use anyway... If I had to guess it's within +/- .05 of said dimensions.
