Christmas gift
Bought this for a friend - her daughter wanted it SO BAD and she couldn't find it anywhere. Within 5 minutes I found and bought it on Amazon - it was delivered in 2 days, I wrapped it and ran it over to friends house as they were unwrapping presents. The daughter (early 30's) cried she was so excited. Breyer always has excellent quality and this was no exception. Beautiful horse and beautiful story.

Wonderful tribute to a real hero
I knew nothing about this horse hero until I saw the model and researched Sergeant Reckless. I am glad I did, and I applaud Breyer for highlighting this remarkable filly to bring awareness to a forgotten hero. Shame the model is retired as of 2014.As for the piece itself, the model is billed as being in the traditional size category, but it is actually closer to the 'classic' size. It is based on the vintage thoroughbred mold, which is much smaller than current traditionals. The model itself is fairly standard and the paint job is not a rousing color scheme--a plain chestnut with white stockings. The blanket though is very detailed with all of the awards she was honored with. They are: Two purple hearts, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Korean Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. On her shoulder, she has a French Fourragere that the 5th Marines earned in World War I. The chevrons at the end of her name on the blanket show her Staff Sergeant status. (Info from Breyer)Fabulous piece of history that is a good starting point for teaching and learning. Get it while you can!

Not what is in the picture
This is a nice piece. But I do have one problem. The green French Fourragere braid shown on the blanket in the picture is not what you get. In the picture it is shown as a real braid. In reality it is a print on the blanket. This is a little deceiving when I opened the box and saw this. Use the actual picture of what is being sent.

OORRAA! A Breyer Marine Horse and my little girl loved it!!
Santa had a little surprise up his sleeve. My daughter wanted the horse "Prancer" that "Lisa" (from the "Saddle Club" series). As I searched for the set (I had no clue what I was looking for) but stumbled upon this horse in the meantime...just in case the rare and hard to find Prancer could not be located. Long story, short: Santa didn't disappoint. She did get the set but she also got this one too, because it does accurately represent a real life hero that carried wounded Marines back to safety and badly needed ammo to the front lines during the Korean conflict. Portions of the proceeds goes towards establishing a permanent monument to to SSgt Reckless at Camp Pendleton, CA.

A Welcome Addition to My Breyer Collection
I've been collecting Breyer horses since I was a little horse-crazy girl. I now have the real thing, but still like to buy an occasional Breyer. When I saw that Breyer had this model, I knew I had to have it. My husband is a former Marine and had never heard Sgt. Reckless' story even though I had. Glad to hear that the memorial to the little horse has been built. Looking forward to buying the book on Amazon and reading more about her.
