Take your time
This is a good product - easy to apply, almost odour free and non-corrosive if you happen to get some on your skin. But the key to success is to leave it a long time to work. I was stripping the hard to get at recesses and corners of an old Victorian door, which had had umpteen coats of paint over the years. I applied one coat of the stripper in the early morning, and a second an hour later as recommended. Then I put the door out of the sun for the rest of the day, and didn't start scraping the paint off until the evening. I was pleased to say that the Bartoline hadn't dried out, and that most of the paint had softened and came away very easily. So slowly does it for good results.

Doesn’t smell
I’m in the process of stripping 45 years of gloss paint from doorframes not an easy job but I’ve found this product does a fairly reasonable job it takes 3 or 4 layers at a time so on a job like mine where there is a really thick accumulation of paint it will take at least 3 layers between scrapings but I like the product as it doesn’t have an unpleasant chemical smell like some paint strippers and although I’m wearing rubber gloves on the splashes that have got on my arms it didn’t burn or cause any reaction’s when washed off quickly . A good all round product that compares well with the more toxic smelling products on the market.

Does work eventually kind of.
Pretty disappointed. I’m removing about 2 coats of stain from a dresser. The photos are just from the top part of the dresser, haven’t even started on the bottom base. Followed the instructions, it dried out within half an hour of the first application despite it saying 1 hour. I then reapplied and covered it in cling wrap hoping to get it to soak in and stop it from drying out, did it on a hot day too, didn’t work. Dried out again. 3rd application finally got it going. Had to scrub and scrap vigorously in between each layer to get it off and will still need to do a lot of sanding to get the stain fully off. Don’t understand how people are removing layers upon layers of paint and varnish with 1-2 coats of this stuff, it does not come off easily. I’ve not even covered the top half of the dresser fully and I’m almost half way through the bottle as the only way it makes any kind of a dent is to dollop it on very very thick which is a complete waste. Getting it off is then a pain, even more scrubbing with dish soap, otherwise you’re left with a sticky residue. Works eventually after a lot of money, extra steps than if you just sanded.

Too small for big jobs but good for small projects
I originally purchased this to take layers of glass paint off a door frames however with 7 doors to do this was not going to be enough product so I went back to the original plan of using the beat gunHOWEVER - i used it to strip layers of varnish off an old wood dining table and it worked a treat. The picture shows the original colour ( on the chair) and the now stripped back table top which I will be white waxing. Luckily I plan to paint the chairs so only need to sand back enough to create a key for the paint to adhere to.I rarely leave reviews but this product worked a treat on the table top. I smeared a thin/medium layer all over the table and left it for 1 hour. I used a scraper to take it off - it came off all gloopy so it was messy, but it worked and saved a lot of sanding. I then cleaned everything off with warm soapy water, let it dry and lightly sanded over the whole area.In summary, I think this is ideal for small jobs but you would need alot to do anything bigger. ( I used half the bottle for the table top - 1 application for 1 hour). It worked for the few layers of varnish that were on the table however it would probably need alot longer processing time, or more applications to go through layers of gloss as I originally planned to used it.

Good stuff!
I wouldn't normally bother to write a review about something as mundane as paint stepper but I thought this stuff was worth it because it worked really well! I have tried a number of Methylene Choride free products and they have been absolute poo! Hardly doing anything at all so I tend to end getting MC based products again, but this stuff works really well, the paint bubbled up in no time and was easy to scrape off, so recommended.
