Q: I am a band teacher & thinking of purchasing this as a teaching aid. Is the material truly clear so that a student can see what my lips are doing?

With the clear plastic mouthpiece, you can see the embouchure (shape/formation of lips) through the cup but the shank gets foggy and not as clear. -from another band teacher

Q: how about getting some plastic coronet mouth pieces?

I bought a plastic mouthpiece off of Amazon here for my bugle. It is a much better sound than I got with the el cheapo metal mouthpiece that came with the bugle. You just need to know what the shank size for your instrument is. A trumpet mouthpiece may or may not fit in a cornet shank, and vice versa. Plastic mouthpiece was quite cheap compared to metal. Good value I say. Mind you they dont necessarily work for everyone.....Its a risk sure, but one well worth taking

I bought this plastic mouthpiece to take on backpacking trips. It’s light weight, small and I can keep my embouchure strong with out my trumpet.
