Great album but Amazon has sent me 4 warped copies so far..
The 4 star review is for the album itself. Sounds amazing, great remaster job.. But I have a problem with Amazon because they have sent me four warped copies of this album so far. After sending all of them back I am going to look elsewhere to see if I can get a quality copy

Pearl Jam has still got it!
As a longtime Pearl Jam fan, these guys never fail to disappoint me. Eddie Vedder's vocal range is simply breathtaking, and Mike McCready and Stone Gossard are among the best lead guitar-rhythm guitar duos in the history of rock. But 2006's self-titled release is simply amazing. Whether you bought it because of the radio hit 'Life Wasted' or because you're a huge Pearl Jam fan, it doesn't matter. This is, by a long shot, their best since 'Vitalogy.' 'Army Reserve,' 'Life Wasted,' 'Comatose,' 'World Wide Suicide' and even the 'Wasted Reprise' are among Pearl Jam's best songs, as well as the soft (for Pearl Jam) rocker 'Gone.'I have always enjoyed Pearl Jam. And this record is just amazing. And having seen them in concert, they are among the bset live acts I've ever seen. Vedder is quite the showman and quite the entertainer, as this one and 'Live At the Gorge 05/06' both document.Overall, this is highly recommended for any Pearl Jam fan. It's one of their finest releases to date. You would have to be crazy to not love Pearl Jam.Highly recommended. A classic record from PJ. ENJOY!!!

Garage rocking with renewed energy; packaging alert
By the time Riot Act came out, I thought Pearl Jam had settled into a comfortable if underwhelming groove. But from the opening moments of "Life Wasted," it looks like they were just saving up their mojo for especially hard impact. This isn't the langorous, sometimes muddy PJ of yore. This album is tight, energetic, and rough around the edges -- in a good way. While bands like Tool are apparently content to root around the confines of a studio soundscape, PJ sounds like a band jamming in a garage, but with excellent production that allows Vedder's voice to come through clearly over the mix. It's timeless rock, with some punk mentality that still retains their indelible soulfulness (and hopelessly cryptic lyrics, natch). It owes no alleigance to current trends or styles. Often this is a bad thing, but PJ makes it work here, with impressive effortlessness.Unfortunately, the CD-holding device is a pain in the neck. I almost split the disk in half before it grudingly popped out. You can't just push down on the button -- that does nothing. So beware. In fact, I'd recommend swapping out to a spare jewel case. On a side note, the art inside the jewel case is pretty dark and alarming. Don't know quite what to make of that.

This album can't be over-hyped!!!
"Pearl Jam", the first studio album since what sounded like a band beginning to wake from of a long sleep on "Riot Act" several years ago, is amazing. It's impossible to deny how energized the band sounds here. This could have been released after Pearl Jam's legendary sophomore album, "Vs.", except that they weren't as focused or technically proficent at that point in their career. "Pearl Jam" sounds undeniably like a starving young band with musical and lyrical maturity beyond their years; it's hard for me to believe they've been at this for over 15 years, and even harder to believe ANYONE could perceive this album as sounding "tired" or "boring"! Pearl Jam sounds hungrier at this stage than the vast majority of young bands on the radio - check out "Severed Hand" or "Big Wave" for immediate proof!"Life Wasted", the album opener, sets the bar high and each successive track delivers. A total of 5 unapologetically hard-rocking tunes kick the album off (although "Marker in the Sand" does break into a beautiful, mid-tempo chorus that sticks in your head long before you can really make sense of Eddie's trademark mumbling vocals) before pausing for air with the mainly acoustic, Beatle-esque, melodically all-over-the-map "Parachutes".Things kick back into rock mode with the ultra-catchy (though strangely reminiscent of "A Change Would Do You Good"-era Sheryl Crow) "Unemployable" - I may be the only one to get that comparison."Gone" follows with what may be the clearest echoes of early Pearl Jam - a tune that would have fit comfortably (and quite possibly as a standout) into the 2nd half of their debut album. The track "Army Reserve" could, as well, fit nicely onto "Ten" or "Vs." That is not to say that either of these tunes shows the band regressing; the musicianship is at a level well above their early days, and clearly demonstrates how possible it is for a veteran rock act to continue to grow and improve while losing none of their energy or passion."Come Back" is a beautifully bluesy ballad & "Inside Job" is just an amazing closer.I would not have believed I could be so excited about this album - my interest was mainly just to see where these former 'grunge' gods, who helped completely change the musical landscape just as I was heading into high school would take things after the sleepy, though impressive "Binaural" and "Riot Act" albums. Honestly - and not to knock anything they've done since "Vitalogy", because I absolutely love "Off He Goes", "Given to Fly", "Push Me, Pull Me" and "Save You" - I would trade all four of those albums for this one, any day of the week.I can't wait to hear more of this from Pearl Jam!!!

I love this album!
All the tracks are brilliant here! Pearl Jam have really got this down to a fine art now. Severed Hand is a standout track but Worldwide Suicide, Marker in the Sand, Army Reserve & Inside Job are just superb. Lyrics & music just typical Pearl Jam excellence. This is a "must have" for anyone who likes Pearl Jam, or just likes good music.
