Convenient and easy to use.
I was a skeptic about this grill. The whole concept seemed kind of goofy to me. Now, after eating a perfectly cooked salmon fillet this afternoon, I wonder why anyone who doesn't have the room for a traditional grill would go without one of these creatures. The cooking was simple and the cleanup was tremendously easy with the removable plates. Of course, you do not get some of the wonders of a real grill: that smokey flavor, the ability to cook large amounts of food all at once, and, of course, gathering around this grill with a few friends and talking and drinking while you cook is pretty awkward. But what a great product!I think this is a great gift for anyone living in an apartment. Parents, if you're sending your kids off to college and you want a way to encourage them to eat more healthily and cheaply, this grill seems like a real good nudge in that direction.Update: A few more comments, a bit more negative than my original review. I still love the grill, but I have to note that clean up definitely needs to be done immediately. Otherwise, it gets really tough. Also, I've already put a minute scratch in the non-stick. And, while it cooks fish incredibly well, it seems to retain a fishy odor. Part of this may indicate a need to be especially diligent in cleaning not just the removable plates but the edges of the grill. I didn't notice splatter at first on those parts, but it definitely has had some splatter. This is a bit more awkward to clean up, especially since the exposed grill parts remain very hot for a long time. Still, overall, knowing what I know now, I would still happily make the purchase. Happy grilling! The one thing that would improve this grill would be an on/off switch. I think I get why the original one didn't have a switch--the makers didn't want you washing it over a sink while it was still plugged in. But with removable plates, this is no longer a concern. You can probably get an on/off switch to plug the grill into pretty cheaply at a hardware store, which would eliminate the sparking that sometimes happens when you unplug it. Otherwise, very pleased with it!

13 years later and still working as intended.
We purchased this back in January 2011. The size is very good for a family of two, sometimes family of three (which is us). I've cooked burgers, pork chops, boneless chicken. I've even used it as a panini press. It is not used every day and might be a month or two before I use it again, but it has held up 13 years. The nonstick coating still works very well. I have put the grilling plates in the dishwasher and the undersides has some gray residue that gets on your fingers. To avoid that I recommend washing by hand instead. Washing by hand is better for the nonstick surface anyway. This item was 42 dollars back in 2011. It is $149 now in 2024 and I'm not sure I would pay that much for this size if I needed to replace it.Overall, I am very pleased with how well my unit has held up over the years and the simplicity to preparing meals and easily disposing of the collected grease in the drip tray. This is a kitchen gadget that has given me ZERO regrets since day one.

Easy to clean.
Greetings,PRO: Easy to clean, cooks decently although not as well as the non-removable version.CON: More expensive than non-removable version, potential safety issue, doesn't cook as well as the non-removable version. It's this simple: easier to clean - feature cost vs better cooking. I won't write about the functionality of this grill since everyone is familiar with what this grill can do. This boils down to a question of how much extra would you pay for easier cleaning at the cost of better cooking.*Three stars means that I was satisfied with my purchase.

Mostly excellent, with one major flaw
I bought this grill almost three years ago (April 2011) to replace a much smaller one that had worn out after four years of steady use. Overall, it has been an excellent item, heating evenly and producing delicious food. I bought it because the plates are removable, which makes cleaning a whole lot easier than it is with the non-removable plate items, where you're bringing water uncomfortably close to power cords in the process of cleaning. For the most part, I love it.What I don't love -- and it's something to keep in mind -- is that you can't buy replacement plates, in spite of the fact that such items ought to be an easy sale for the company. I mean, come on, if you're cooking several items and don't want them changing each other's flavors, it would be nice to swap out plates instead of stopping to wash the one set in the middle of cooking before you can keep going. But even more critically, after less than three years, the teflon has begun to wear off of the grill plates in earnest and food is starting to stick. Several times, we have opened up the grill to find the burger sticking to the roof plate, which can lead to some tricky maneuvering to rescue it. I would like to be able to purchase a set of new plates only, because the base unit is still in excellent shape, but it looks like I'm going to have to buy a completely new unit and toss out the good parts of this one along with the parts that have gone bad. I even checked the George Foreman website, and they only sell complete units. The only replacement component I've ever seen offered is the drippings tray. So I'm stuck: I have to buy a brand new unit. Now, I'll definitely get my money's worth doing so, even if it lasts less than three years too, but I would be a whole lot happier if I only had to replace the parts that have actually worn out. This "cheaper to replace than repair / disposable everything" mindset needs to take a flying leap because it's a big part of what has ruined our economy.
