Fish was a Flop? Or so I thought...
I came back to amend the review below, because cats are fickle. The longer the Fish laid around on the floor, my cats became increasingly interested in swatting at it. It makes quite a racket when it moves, so you get an alert of sorts when they play with it. They are playing with it enough to make it well worth the modest purchase price. Also, the quality of the toy is pretty great. It charges via USB, and the charge lasts. My bottom line is, give it a try. Your cats might go crazy for it, or they might just hit it now and again, like mine. But I'm going to put some fresh catnip on it and see what happens.INITIAL REVIEW BELOW-I have 2 year old tabby cats who are up for any kind of new fun. I charged the fish and turned it on. You have to drop it to start the flopping, which last about 5-10 seconds. By the time my kitties were looking, it was over. From then on, they never got into it. One went up and pawed the tale a bit after it stopped- nothing happens. The cat would have to be wrestling the fish hard to get it going.Perhaps you have cats who are more easily duped by robotic toys, but mine seem to prefer things they can pick up, carry around, throw and "chase." In fairness to the Fish, mine were only briefly impressed by a stuffed mouse which squeaks. Maybe they prefer imagining to electronic toys? The photo shows an unimpressed cat watching the Fish flop towards falling off the chair, and into a laundry basket, where it continued to flop while the cat said "Yeah, I saw it the first time."

Charging issues, Squeaky action - Still a nice toy :-)
Arrived promptly and was packaged well. No parts missing. The plush part itself seems professionally sewn, including the zipper. Printed design does indeed look like a real fish, and the realistic flopping action makes it look alive. When activated by a tap, kitty-kick, or floor-drop, it flops for 10-15 seconds and then stops, waiting for another nudge. Has an on-off switch for storage. I LOVE the fact that it can be charged via USB, rather than requiring batteries.HOWEVER, the charging mechanism on ours does not work as expected. Instructions say it may take up to 70 minutes to fully charge. But for us, the charging light remained red (still-charging mode). We left it connected for 6 hours the first time, and overnight the second time. Both times we eventually gave up waiting, and used the toy in a (presumably) semi-charged state. When turned on and activated, the toy flip-flopped pretty well at first. Over time it flops with declining energy, as might be expected. It amused our senior male cat, who hugged it and kicked at it for a few minutes. (The catnip/silvervine pouch undoubtedly added to the attraction.) Our senior girl kitty watched until the flopping stopped, then sniffed at the fish, apparently decided it was beneath her dignity, and stalked way with her tail in the air. That's okay; in the cat world a 50% approval rating is still a success. :-)Unfortunately the flopping is accompanied by a creaky-squeaky sound -- almost like the inner mechanism is rusted or something -- and after a while our cat lost interest. We'll put it in the cat toy closet and bring it out again in a couple weeks. "Toy rotation" is our standard strategy with self-play cat toys. If the inner mechanism ever stops working we'll just fill the zipper pouch with catnip and use it as a regular kick-toy.CONCLUSION: This is a nice toy, aside from the squeaking and charging issue we experienced. Reasonably priced, and worth a try.

Cheap knock off
The original floppy fish I had died. My cat loves it! So I bought a new one. This looks the same on the outside but is not in the inside. The flopping device is not the full length of the fish so has a pretty pathetic flop and the battery life is super short. The original I had had a much better quality flopping device and was the length of the fish so it had better movement and easier for my cat to pick up and carry around. My cat still enjoys this one even though it's not as sturdy or interactive as my old one so it will surfice for now. It does not feel like one that will last for a long time but we will see..

Defective - the one I received will not charge back up.
The toy itself seems to be built OK. Its the charging mechanism. that is the issue - After the initial charge it was shipped with wore off I tried various USB chargers to get it to charge. I even tried a different USB cable. No luck.I will not try to return this since my cat has played with it a lot during the initial charge and it has her teeth marks, scratches, etc . She will not play with it if it will not move..

My cats love it.
I have two cats. One plays with any toy I buy and turns all types of things like straws, plastic spoons, ribbons, etc. into toys. The other one doesn't play with anything. I thought I would take a chance on the electric floppy fish cat toy. She stared at it at first then she pounced on and wouldn't let go. She carries it around and won't let our other cat have it. I'm glad she finally found a toy she really likes and keeps her busyIt's sturdy and I am sure it will last. I was very happy with the price. I highly recommend it.
