Great EDC Light
This light is small and streamlined. It runs on a single AA sized battery. This one comes with a proprietary rechargeable battery. I like that I can use a AA battery if the rechargeable battery dies. The output is good with a AA battery but way brighter with the rechargeable battery. I use this light as my EDC and have been using it for several months. The pocket clip keeps the light out of the way until I need it. I haven't used it much with a baseball cap but the clip worked fine when I did. I like that it is barely larger than a AA battery in diameter, length is almost two AA batteries end to end. I don't feel that I've abused the light but it has held up well to my usage. I like that this light doesn't have strobe or any other annoying features. Press the button to turn it on, press the button to turn it off. If you want it in bright or turbo mode you press the button twice in quick succession. I liked the light well enough that I bought one for my son, he also really likes it.

Just about saved my life and my fiancé’s!
My fiancé and I went to la push beach in Washington and in order to get to the 2nd beach you have to walk a mile trail in the forest to get there. Now we didn’t notice how dark it was getting so when we started the walk back to the car it was pitch black in the forest I would have been freaking out so much more if I didn’t have this flashlight. I turned it on the max setting and clipped it onto my hat and it worked like a charm I was able to navigate the pitch Black Forest and before we knew it we were at the place we parked our car. Definitely won’t be making that same mistake but wow I’m so glad I had this little guy on me when that happened. Definitely the best EDC and will be buying more products from this company. Thank you for potentially saving our lives out there because one wrong turn could have been really bad especially if we were just using our phones with no signal

Not the best AA light out there.
About once a year I get the itch to buy a new light and see how the technology has progressed. In short, I was not impressed by the Olight I5R. I’ve been carrying an Eagtac D25A Mark ii XM-L2 with a 14500 micro USB battery. I was intrigued by Olight’s proprietary 2.4v USB c battery. Being a lower voltage it has higher mAh than a 3.7v 14500. So I was hoping for similar output but longer run time. The Olight’s max output is noticeably lower than the Eagtac. Even with a 1.5v alkaline battery the Eagtac is brighter. Also the proprietary Olight battery won’t run a light like the Eagtac that accepts 14500 batteries. Probably because at 2.4v the Eagtac thinks it’s an over discharged 14500 so it runs in a very low moonlight mode even on turbo. Worse yet the Olight will not run with a 14500. And from the naked eye the Olight isn’t any brighter with the proprietary 2.4v battery over an alkaline AA. If you want a low priced EDC light with long regulated run times and super simple UI then the Olight should be fine. But if your intended use is as a secondary or tertiary backup light for a more high risk role where lumens > run time then I’d pass on the Olight. Spend $20 more and get an Eagtac or another light. I also like that on the Eagtac you are always in turbo when the head is screwed on tight. For low modes you just loosen the head maybe a 1/4 turn. The Olight always starts in low on the first press. A second rapid press goes to high.

Solid light, when the price is right
I bought mine a few days ago for ten dollars less than the price shown as I'm writing this review, which is a 30% difference. At the price i paid this light is a decent value, and my review is based on that lower price.I work in maintenance, so the ability to clip the light onto my hat bill is ace. It's nice and small, but not too small, and lightweight enough for every day carry. The clip in the Amazon pic is a nice looking blue, but mine came with a deep dark navy midnight blue clip, but a brighter/lighter blue would have been better for finding the flashlight if/when I drop it in the darkness. We all have flashlights built into our phones nowadays, but the very first day I got this flashlight my iPhone was not charging properly due to lint in the lightning port and it was crucial to have a light that I could shine into the port for cleaning. The iPhone's own light could not have helped with this. The low light mode is great for most general tasks (under the sink, under the hood of a truck etc) and the bright mode is more than you'll need for all but the most extreme situations. The included rechargeable battery seems pretty slick so far. Be sure to charge it up fully BEFORE first use as the included instructions mention. My only two "complaints" are the clip color not matching the Amazon photos, and I don't understand how to toggle between low/high light modes. I can do it, but I don't understand the exact method lol I just click it a couple times until it does it. The instructions mention nothing about how it works.
