Dickie Madden is impressive!
Richard Madden delivers yet again, in an unbelievable environment. Kudos to a young man who researches the potential role and then commits to it. He is such a good actor!

Black, skin tight, seamless spandex pants in the Yukon in the 1800's???
All the comments I've read here ... I most certainly agree with.It was also, VERY hard to ignore the unbelievably gorgeous wardrobes of some of the actors, particularly the character of Bellinda who looked like she stepped out of Kate Middleton's palace. In fact they they could be twins separated at birth, who now have their makeup done by the same professional cosmetologist. There is a natural beauty in women which is not enhanced by pancake makeup, carefully waxed eyebrows and all the rest. We are supposed to be looking back at History...as it was. Yet, every time one of the perfectly manicured female actors showed up, the "reality" of it was destroyed and I could only stare and wonder how a director such as Ridley Scott or Discovery could have let that happen.I will finish watching all the episodes because of Tim Roth, the scenery and the educational aspect. This could have been a GREAT series...but Hollywood Glamour reared it's fake face.

What was similar was the good will of those that made the effort to travel ...
It attempts to portray the actual drama of the gold rush in the Klondike and may come close. My family's experience was different. They stayed away from the houses of ill repute according to their letters that I have.. They were stout Methodists and preserved both their capitol and their virtue, unlike the characters in this show. What was similar was the good will of those that made the effort to travel there under such harsh conditions with such high hopes of success.

Excellent Movie about a dramatic time in American History!
Saw the first episode on the Discovery Channel and immediately ordered the entire series as I enjoyed watching the first episode. My husband and I watched Disc 1 last night and cannot wait to finish watching the entire Disc 2 to find out how the story ends. After reading the harsh reviews written by others, I totally disagree with them and highly recommend this as it is very well acted and the characters are all believable. A very good rendition of a quite interesting time in the Klondike/Dawson City history. It was very exciting to watch and we were caught up by the beautiful cinematography of the Alaskan scenes in the film.

Great little series.
Modern TV doesnβt seem to excite me much. This series definitely held my attention. The ability to show modern day people with the bug for reality TV what, even with some dramatization, reality in the times of the gold rush was truly like was amazing. The full circle that the story takes along with the never ending fight for survival was very well represented.Rating based on quality of production and story.Mostly pro's not enough con's for the dramatization to take a star.If you like history or just have some curiosity of the times and struggle of the men and women that were part of this struggle I would recommend this to you.

This miniseries introduced me to the Chilkoot Trail. And then I decided to backpack it.
I got sucked into this miniseries when it aired on the History channel last winter and come August, I was backpacking the Chilkoot Trail. Yep, I'd never even heard of the Chilkoot Trail prior to this movie and I enjoyed it enough to travel from VA to Alaska and embark on an epic 5 day backpacking trip I'll never forget. Great mini series
Yes,the second dvd in got worked perfectly. I was a little apprehensive to order the second one since the first one from momox what didn't work. By the way I still haven't received my $10.21 back. Do you know if you will be getting a movie titled "Bastille Day" with Richard Madden ? I when to a live production of Romeo and Juliet live from Garrick theater London UK. Love it !

This IS NOT 'Deadwood'.
It's mild and nowhere like the viseral classic that 'Deadwood' has become.Worth a watch (if you can pick up a copy really cheap) as it is entertaining in a light way despite the very cold settings which were effective in my humble opinion. Not so the wardrobe department as it seemed that it's mantra was to dress Abbie Cornish in the most pristine costumes come rain mud or shine --- I think somebody slipped in a page from 'Downton Abbey' into the script.2 discs splitting the 6 episodes totalling 272 minutes with English subtitles. A Discovery Channel production, HBO it is not. Suitable for family viewing.

Visually stunning well acted series
Using Charlotte Gray's excellent book 'Gold Diggers' as its source material this visually stunning series was recently aired on the Discovery Channel. The characters were 'real' people, at the end of the series we discover what happened to them and it makes for interesting viewing. The cast is strong-in particular Richard Madden and Abbie Cornish and support from Sam Shepard and Tim Roth are worth a mention. The series does not pretend to be an imitation of 'Deadwood' it stands very well in its own right and no one should be put off by the single poor review at the time of writing. The scenery is as much a character as the people themselves, in turns majestic and beautiful, hard and pitiless. You realise just how hard the life was for prospectors and the dirt, mud and jealousy that was part of everyday life for them. Extremely impressive and far from 'average'.
