Can this be use for rice cooking?

No this not recommended for rice cooking. this is used to clarify water of minerals and trace elements and give you clear, pleasnat, healthy water for drinking. You can use the resulting clarified, purified water for rice cooking.

With kishu binchotan charcoal sticks -- while they may absorb some chlorine in the water, i can often still taste the chlorine!! what's up?

The instructions state that you should boil your charcoal for ten minutes every tow weeks to month. When I followed those rules it significantly enhanced the absorption of off flavors and minerals.
