Q: are these trousers washable

The answer is YES. 30-degree cool wash but no tumble dry, no iron, no bleach. They are very warm and comfortable, good pockets, wore them for a trip to Norway recently. Good value.

Q: are the zips on the pockets waterproof? My past experience of cheaper waterproof trousers is that the zips always leak water in torrential rain

The zips aren’t the waterproof type, just normal ones, but there are flaps on either side of the zip that closes up when zipped, which may protect the pockets a bit.

Q: Are the waist snap fasteners robust, will they last, likely to fall off? i'd prefer a button or french bearer tia

Yes, I think so. The trousers are very robust generally. So, unless they're obviously too small, can't see the fastenings being a concern. Not what you asked but, having worn them in the piste for the first time today, they're way too thick for warm weather, and they don't come with a belt. Though coloyr-matched webbing style ones are readily available.
