Are the tops mesh and soft? I have a bad toe and need room In the Toe box

These shoes are wonderful! I bought them for my handicap daughter The size runs true and the color looks just like the picture shows.

I normally wear a size 7 in normal shoes so should I buy a 6.5 or 7
