A Very Capable Immersion Blender - 3 Years Life Expectancy with Regular Use
Mixing - The two speed operation is handy. For making soups, you can do most of the job on low speed, even with chunky vegetables. This makes it easier to control how thick the final product is, and it makes for less possibility of splash-ups. The switch feel is sure (good tactile feel). The blade is stocky and sharp - it looks like it's built for business. I blended a large pot of tomato black bean garlic soup down in under 30 seconds.Motor - Plenty of power. It's quiet compared to my last blender (especially on low), which was 3x the price. I cannot comment on durability yet, as this is a new model.Size/weight/feel - Hefty, but not heavy. It has a quality feel with a nice balance. If it were too light, it would feel cheap.Cord - Long enough to get the job done, but not too long to make wrapping up the cord a hassle.Assembly/Cleaning - Easy to attach/detach. The lock-up feels solid. So far, there's little mechanical play in the interface. It's very easy to clean by hand if you don't wait for it to dry up.I've grown to like Cuisinart products. It looks like they have a winner here.4/10/2013 update - I've had this for several months now, and I can say the concern about the plastic gear on the prior version does not appear to be an issue on this design. I've used it dozens of times and there is not a hint of wear. Bumping to 5 stars. It's one of my favorite kitchen tools.11/17/2013 update - Still going strong. This is my single favorite kitchen tool, and I have lots of them. It's the best combination of usefulness and fun factor. So nice not to have to drag out the food processor for so many tasks any more. I just made a super creamy hummus (in the can, no less) in under five minutes. Fast, yummy, inexpensive and so easy to clean up afterwards.2/4/16 update - This is my *favorite* kitchen gadget ever. My latest 'discovery' is you can make a fool proof mayo with this puppy. I will use this till it dies (some day), then I will buy another one just like it.3/3/2016 update - well that's the end. After three years of regular use, it's time to get a new one. Very high gear noise, and I'd give it another month tops before it destroys itself. If this is the current model, I will gladly get a replacement.

A great tool...
This is a great item...I use it constantly. At this point I have owned this immersion blender for 6 months, using it several times a week. This great tool has sent my Cuisinart food processor (previously the star of the kitchen) to a hidden corner of a lower cabinet, where it rarely sees the light of day. My son loves smoothies, but before I got this blender, I hated making them because the food processor was a huge mess to clean up. Plus, the processor's blades are very sharp, and must be washed separately. I am clumsy enough that I am fearful of a deep cut every time I wash those blades. It has not happened yet, but I fear it still may. When I bought this immersion blender, I was concerned about some of the issues raised by other reviewers for similar blenders... mainly the broken plastic gearings of the motor handle. I have had no problems at all with that. I can only assume that the users were trying to grind up hard objects, such as ice, by putting downward pressure on the blade head against the bottom of the provided processing beaker. I am careful that I do not process hard objects, but honestly I think it could probably handle that too. I would say hold the blade head above the bottom and let the blades churn the ice, thus avoiding applying heavy pressure to the motor unit. But, then, I avoid using ice anyway.TIPS --1. Easy storage. I wrap the cord around the motor handle and put it on the shelf, then put the blade arm in the beaker and put that next to the motor on the same shelf. All is very light, compact and occupies very little space.2. Easy cleanup. Compared to the food processor, this is night and day. I drop the blade head in water as soon as I am done, to let it soak. When I clean up, I wash the beaker like any cup (it's clear plastic, so do not use abrasive wash pads) then put the wash pad tip in the blade head, twist it a few times and then rinse it. This keeps my fingers away from the blades, and still cleans up perfectly. No cut fingers!3. A tip for usage. When I first began using the blender, I would plug it in, insert it into the cup and begin blending the food. Often, I would stop to add additional ingredients (leaving the entire blender upright in the beaker) then resume processing. I found that sometimes the weight of the cord on the motor handle could cause the whole blender to tip over, spilling the beaker's contents ... big mess! Since then, I press the rear release button to remove the motor section, but leave the blade arm still in the beaker. Then I snap the top half (the motor half) back in place when I am ready to resume blending. This works very well. It only takes one or two spills to see the benefits of this approach.I can't say enough good things about this blender. I really really like the whole idea of an immersion blender and this one is very good. I had never even heard of immersion blenders until I came upon a recipe that specified the use of one. I was puzzled, so I looked it up, bought this one, and will never go back.

A great tool in any kitchen
I bought this hand blender for the restaurant I was managing at the time. I wanted something that was handheld, easy to use and got the job done. This was the perfect fit. It handled very well against everything we prepped in our commercial kitchen.

Cuisinart stick blendar
I'm so glad Amazon has a good return policy because we bought the refurbished. It kept stalling and then got really hot and started smoking. I was disappointed because it was the final step in my catfood recipe but lucky for me a neighbour had one I borrowed

Easy, Heavy, Strong, Fast but with Awkward button placement
The unit itself works great. It's strong, fast and relatively plug-and-go! The locking mechanism at the top is for safety. Hold it down before you start the unit then you can let it go once you begin. If you live alone you can consider bypassing the lock by modifying it but be mindful that it's there for a reason and it's meant to be awkward! I have no problem with the lock mechanism at all.The problem I had is that even once you unlock, start and then release the lock button - the units buttons that need to be held down in order to work are hard to press with the way your hand grips the unit and require it to be pressed firmly, which creates an awkward position and over time really starts to hurt!Maybe I have a weak grip, but my husband also noticed that holding the "on" button for extended periods was just not comfortable at all. That being said, because it's a powerful unit I didn't need to have it on for more then 30-45 seconds at a time for my soups, so maybe in time my grip will benefit from the workout :PBut making dressings, mayo or sauces that require oil drizzling in it slowly is downright painful for me to hold with 1 hand for minutes at a time while emulsifying. When I hold it with 2 hands I am fine, no problem at all - but then I cannot drizzle the oil in while it's on. Thankfully I have a hubby who can drizzle while I hold the machine ^_^ Not ideal, maybe. All that said, I don't regret the purchase. The price point and strength of the unit is unmatched so I see this issue as a trade off for value gained. I think if the placement of the buttons was changed to be more user-friendly this would be absolutely perfect!

Nice product, but you can't use it in the UK
I love the Cuisinart blender we have in the USA, which is why I ordered this one (at 3 times the price) for use in the UK.But what came was a standard US blender, that requires a 120v 60Hz power supply. It even came with a US plug, which at least saved me from plugging it in and blowing it up.

Works very well
Good power, and the button on the top that has to be pressed is a good safety guard. I find sometimes I have to keep the safety button pressed all the while blending. That doesn’t happen often, and I think it must be because what I’m blending is done being blended? Not certain on that, but like I said, it doesn’t happen often. Other than than that, it works great - in a deep pot of hot soup to be puréed to sauces, or smoothies.

Cutting blade broke first
Purchased: Feb 2015.RIP: Dec 2021First of all, this is our 2nd Cuisinart smart stick, which replaced our first one that had been a wedding gift and lasted about 10 years at which point I think the motor burnt out. Right out of the box, you can tell the product quality of our replacement had gone down compared to the original. There's now more plastic, less metal, in its construction. While it lasted, this was a still a great little tool we used for making apple sauce and soups. Although I found the 2 button placement more awkward to hold while blending and they requires a fair bit of consistent pressure that tires your hand out, it always had lots of power to do the job. The blender lasted almost 7 years, before the blade randomly snapped in half (see pic) in the middle of a light blending job. That was a surprise (I thought the motor would burn out instead like last time). So overall, I'm a bit disappointed that this unit didn't last as long as our first, and it would seem to suggest Cuisinart may be cutting corners. At this price point, I'll likely try a different brand rather than going back to Cuisinart for a 3rd time.
