Life changing!
I have suffered from a bad neck for over half my life. My neck slightly curves forward (the wrong way) and I have degeneration between my fifth and sixth vertebrae. This causes headaches, nausea, reduces blood flow, hinders nerve signaling, stiffness, constant ache, lack of motion and range, and sometimes leads to severe pain and muscle spasm/locking up that can last a week or more at a time. Muscle relaxers do nothing. It has had a profound affect on my life and countless tears have been cried. However, thanks to chiropractic care near weekly, I am able to better manage my condition. (And this pillow!! But more on that in a moment.)In my experience, sleeping at night often provides relief. Ironically, sleeping also seems to set off the muscle spasms. If I had a quarter for every time I’ve woken up with a bad neck.. well, I’d have enough money to fund my chiropractor visits haha! I have spent SO much time and money trying to find the right pillow for my condition. Which is also scary because 99% of the time it turns out to be the wrong pillow and the consequences can be painful. Would you believe I even time trying new pillows on certain days so I can rush to the chiropractor the next morning? But then this cervical neck roll came along!! It has been a life changer! Laying in bed I noticed that even with my best pillow, I still lacked support behind my neck. I could easily slide my fingers between my neck and the pillow. So I rolled up a hand towel, placed it behind my neck on the pillow, and slept with that for a week. It felt decent enough I decided to explore that option. I needed to find something that wouldn’t unroll and wind up in the depths of the bed by morning. My search results for a cervical pillow/roll all showed massive options. I’m talking 4, 5, even 6” in diameter?! I ordered the smallest foam roll I could find and it was terrible. Even a 4” diameter is too big for the natural anatomical proportions of our cervical spine. Especially for a thin person with a reverse curve. As for the foam, it was both too firm and yet unsupportive. I’m shocked so many of them are on the market and being advertised as safe for necks (though I did keep it for under my knees). Then I typed in buckwheat and found this glorious option!!The diameter of this pillow is perfect and you can adjust the fill to meet your needs. I probably took out ¾ of a cup and store it in a ziplock bag so I can add more later if I need to. Adjusting the fill is very easy. The cotton material of the cover is natural yet soft, but not too soft. The ties on the side don’t bug me like I thought they would. It all seems well crafted and sturdy. The buckwheat fill has no scent (I’m sensitive) and the slight noise it makes when being positioned is actually calming and doesn’t bother my bed mate. The buckwheat is somehow firm, soft, and supportive all at once! I can easily move it aside when I roll to sleep on my side. While I typically use it on my low lofted pillow, I also find myself moving my pillow away and only using the buckwheat roll by itself. I never thought I’d sleep without a pillow under my head and like it so much. I used to be a strict side sleeper, and falling asleep on my back would cause nausea, but now I spend at least half the night if not more sleeping on my back, which is the best alignment for our skeletal system. I love that this roll is made of all natural materials because after doing a deep-dive, you’d be surprised what the industry standard is for treating textiles (traditional mattresses, pillows, couches, rugs) and the profound affects they can have on our health and well-being.While my neck condition certainly isn’t cured and I’ll likely deal with it the rest of my life, this buckwheat cervical roll has made life much more bearable. I find myself looking forward to crawling in bed so I can add a comforting amount of support and pressure to my neck. It provides relief and I believe in the long run will help correct my curve a bit. I’m going to buy two more so I’m never without!Note: other pillows/neck rolls I’ve purchased came with letters from the companies saying if you leave them a five star review, they’ll compensate you with a gift card. This company does NOT do that. This five star review was well earned! Be leery of other pillows on the market. If you are looking for more options to help your skeleton and upgrade your sleeping situation, I suggest looking into a latex mattress topper. It’s much different than memory foam and worth every penny. I hope this review was helpful in informing you as a consumer.

The best way to use this pillow
I bought this pillow due to neck pain and sleeping problems. Realized that tucking it under your neck while laying on your back is super uncomfortable. But my chiropractor suggested laying down on a foam roller with it positioned from the base of my head to the tailbone, basically running along the length of my spine. So I started using this pillow the same way. It helps straighten and support my spine and even helps me breathe better. And so much more comfortable and useful than a foam roller!! This pillow is the perfect amount of firm and malleable. Bonus points for being made of eco-friendly natural materials.

Great solution for neck pain!
Waking up with neck pain made me decide to ditch my pillow and find another solution. Glad I found this one. My favorite is that you can remove the filling to adjust the roll to your liking. I removed about half and now it is a perfect little beanbag to support my neck. Bonus is that it is made out of organic cotton! Thank you for a healthy alternative to support my sleep!

Small enough to support the neck without causing too much neck flexion
I thought the pillow was too firm so I removed some of the buckwheat hulls. I still didn’t like it very much but this is coming from a person who has a wooden chest full of pillows that I don’t really find comfortable. I like this pillow better after replacing the buckwheat hulls with millet hulls. I like the shape and size of the pillow. I think too many people sleep with their neck flexed and over time this can contribute to a posteriorly herniated disc. I work in the operating room, monitoring spine surgeries for herniated discs and other structural problems. I’m also an acupuncturist trying to keep people out of the operating room….After listening to Stuart McGill talk about different things that can cause low back pain, I’ve been able to apply some of this knowledge to the neck. Posture and body position matter!!! We all need to find a neutral spine position that doesn’t cause pain. Our spinal discs are gel-like substances that are hydrophilic/water-loving. Hydraulic pressure (with too much spine flexion for example) can contribute to a herniated disc. As long as a disc maintains at least 70% of its original height, you can actually get the worm-like nucleus of the disc material to migrate back in where it belongs (performing the opposite motion which is sometimes extension, but just for acute conditions ). This should only be done for a short time though (few months, definitely <1year) otherwise you could then also become extension intolerant (facet joints rubbing together, arthritis, bone spurs, etc). I’m not trying to give medical advice. You should see someone who can analyze your neck position. I just want to reiterate that position and posture matter, disc material can migrate, and that your big fluffy pillow might be doing more harm than good. Some things aren’t just wear and tear and “old age.” If only one disc is herniated, McGill says you shouldn’t be labeled with Degenerative Disc Disease. It’s from something else!

hard as a rock
Of no value to a side sleeper. Nicely made, maybe use as a doorstop.

Really has helped my neck!
For many years I has used foam cervical rolls for my problem neck, as advised by my physical therapist. They last for about three days and then the foam goes too soft and doesn't offer the support I need and I am in pain again. This neck roll has fixed my neck! I took out some of the beans at first to soften it, and as time goes by, I have to add some, which is easy to do. It has lasted for a long time and truly been a Godsend!

Resolved previous pillow neck pain.
I purchased this product as my previous pillow was incredibly uncomfortable to my neck. The firmness and the size of this pillow supports my neck helping with the strain I was experiencing. I do try to side sleep sometimes & this pillow isn’t very helpful with that, but I adjust and have felt a lot better since switching to this pillow.
