Sharp Shooter Tips
The sharp micro stereo ships in a factory white retail box, so if this is a present or you dont want the factory box tore up during transport, then request the retail box be put inside a big brown amazon box. If you temper your expectations, then this unit sounds good at 50 watts RMS. 25 watts left + 25 watts right channel. The included FM antenna can go into the trash, because it's just a thin piece of wire that plugs into the back of the stereo. Buy the Bingfu FM dipole antenna for $8 if you want any real chance of pulling in radio stations. Note that there are 2 versions of this stereo. The all black model and the Gold Limited edition with the gold volume knob and gold trim around the woofers. The specs are the same for both units, so get the one that suits your style. Some reviews said they received the standard black model when they ordered the Gold Label model. The seller (Electronic Express) sent me the correct Gold Label model & it's new in box and not a refurb model. The instructions are written in clear English and set up was easy pie. Don't forget to press the eco button on the remote, so that the display goes complete dark when you press the red on/standby button. Otherwise, the screen will stay lit with disco screen flashing light messages that will freak you out and keep you awake at night if you like to sleep in complete darkness. Also, pressing the play mode buttton on the remote, until you see the words "random" display on screen will randomly play songs on the current disc. This unit does not randomly play songs on all 5 discs like the old school rotary disc stereos. Which is understandable, since all that movement will eventually wear out the mechanism. Work around: Just burn your favorite songs on a usb stick and insert into the stereo if you want random music playing. This is a nice retro nostalgia piece that brings back memories of playing CDs in the 80s. This unit is an upgraded 2022 model with CD, NFC, USB, and Bluetooth compared to other versions that have a cassette player. The remote has decent distance and controls the whole unit, so dont lose or break it. It's been 5 days and so far everything works great including the 5 disk CD player. The stack cd mechanism outputs more noise compared to the 5 disc rotary models, but nothing too crazy. I'll update the review if anything breaks. Click helpful if this info helped you out love 💜

Two differences between this new Sharp and my old Sharp
Eleven years ago Amazon sold me a Sharp Electronics XLDH229N 100W Micro System (which is no longer being sold), which replaced another Sharp micro system I also got from Amazon. Both were quite reliable for their affordable prices. Now I bought the Sharp XL-BH250. A big reason for this is my XLDH229N's remote control wore out and its numerical buttons quit working. I also chose to connect my computer's external speaker system to it to boost its bass and treble. The new remote control looks and feels better than both previous ones, but it lacks the familiar number keys. I used to switch FM radio stations so easily and quickly, each station came on instantly. I miss this switchability, since with the new system a station I switch to takes two full seconds of silence to come on, and linear tapping is needed to switch stations. A second reason, and a second difference with the new Sharp, is that the sound quality is better, and better enough I can do without the added speakers. More bass and treble, wider range and more clear and smooth sound. (The higher-priced Sharp systems might sound better than this.) The indoor antennas it came with also work better. They are the same old wire antennas for AM and FM, but the station reception is simply better, even with AM. (But AM radio no longer appeals to me, since its sound remains badly narrow-ranged, and my area has a dearth of AM stations. But then again, I just discovered AM radio streaming online -- it actually sounds almost as good as FM!) It still could use an add-on antenna for even better FM reception. My new Sharp also has a CD changer, but I don't use it as I do without CDs. The USB and Bluetooth are it best additions, can't do without them. The whole thing, unlike most of the other systems and boomboxes with their chrome and flashy features, looks neat and classy, less like a toy and more like a real stereo. For what this baby cost, who knows if there could be a shelf system that look and sounds better or is easier to use.

Good Sound Quality
So far this has been a great music/CD/stereo/playing system/center (I don't even know what these are called anymore). Just needed something for my home gym, because my boombox/portable/CD/playing (not sure what these are called either) finally quit on me after only 30 years or so. I've kept the boombox (see photo bottom shelf) as the cassette player still works (and I've got around 4 cassettes that have not yet tangled up the tape). If you don't know what a cassette tape is, you probably won't be buying a 5 disc CD player anyway (google it and look up VHS tapes and floppy discs while you are at it). Anyway, getting back on track (no pun intended), on the Sharp XL-BH250 all of the 5 disc readers work. The sound quality is really good for a mini system like this. I wanted the speakers on the wall, so installed them using a pair of VideoSecu Side Clamping Bookshelf Speaker Mounting Brackets. The wire from the speakers is 22 AWG (gauge) and only around 4 ft long. So I got some 22 AWG wire and crimped it onto the existing wire. The sound quality is still good, although I think I pushed the limit of how long you can use such a thin wire. If you add more than around 10 ft of wire, the sound will probably go dodgy. Now I can play all my favorite CDs while trying to stay fit. The system also works with a cable from your smartphone as well (AUX input, or something like it). I didn't set up the bluetooth (because I couldn't be bothered). My only complaint is the remote. They should have taken some of the lesser used buttons off and made the volume and CD selector buttons bigger. Then when I'm on the treadmill, trying to change discs mid run, I'll be less likely to stumble and face plant. Won't do that again.

What an incredibly easy set up. The sound quality is a little too much bass for me, but considering the price, it’s definitely worth it. I just returned an almost $800 5-CD player - with 5 yr warranty - to a local electronics store because it didn’t work. Someone was going to come to try to fix it, at an extra cost of course, but that didn’t quite work out. I’m happy I returned it. I absolutely love this little CD player! On a slightly different note, I have to mention the delivery man. He rang my doorbell (companies delivering for Amazon never do that in spite of a prominent sign on my door). I don’t expect delivery persons to wait for me at the door. But when I went to get the package, he was there waiting and placed the package inside the door for me. That was a first! I was so surprised that I completely forgot to ask his name or even check to see what delivery company he was from! Hopefully next time I’ll pay more attention.

Our old stereo system finally died so I researched for a replacement. I had no idea that 5 disc changers were so hard to find these days. I love loading up 5 discs, hitting shuffle and letting it do it's thing. This system is the best value on Amazon. It does everything it says it will. FM Radio works great. I can yell at CBC again. It's loud enough. We are in a two level townhouse and I can hear the music downstairs, it can fill the room. Bluetooth worked easy so I can stream Spotify. Perfect system for our needs.
