Good for one person
I thought it was a set for 4. Anyways this is good for one person. Very pretty and sturdy.

Perfect match to older set.
Arrived in perfect condition. Matched our current set to replace a broken plate.

A set with nice shapes except for the mug, but the pieces are not very heavy.
While the pieces of Mikasa's Antique White dinnerware are plain white, the design of the pieces is what sets them apart from other dishes. The dishes are dishwasher safe, microwave safe and chip resistant which is ideal for everyday use. However, there are some negatives about the dishes. From the photo in the description, I was under the impression that these would be heavy pieces. However, they are actually very light. I think that my cheap, plain white Ikea plates are heavier than the Mikasa plates. This is unfortunate because weight would have given the pieces more of a quality feel.Dinner PlateThe dinner plate is 10 1/2 inches in diameter and what sets it apart from other plates is the shape which is not round. Instead, there are eight flat segments along the edges. This shape is mimicked by molding around the edge. The center of the plate is deep which is a nice touch. This isnt so obvious in the photos of the plate.Salad PlateThe salad plate is the same shape as the dinner plate, but it is smaller at a 8 1/2 inch diameter. What was disappointing was that the salad plate I received had a small, quarter sized indentation in the middle. While the indentation was small and doesnt ruin the plate, it does appear to be an imperfection.BowlThe six inch diameter cereal bowl is fantastic. It has deep sides and is perfect as a cereal bowl. There are ridges along the edges of the bowl to give it character.MugThe 14 oz mug is the only disappointment of the set because its design is more utilitarian than elegant. The mug does have the same ridges on its side as the bowl, but they dont do much to set this mug apart from other tall mugs on the shelf.PackagingThe set arrives in its own cardboard box wrapped in bubble wrap and put in another box for shipping. Inside of the box were sections of cardboard to support the different pieces. Be careful when removing the pieces. The first one on the top surrounds the bowl and I accidently lifted the whole thing up resulting in the bowl falling out. The drop was only an inch and nothing was broken, but be careful.ImpressionsOverall, this is a nice subtle set of dishes that stands apart due to the shape of the dishes and the size of the bowl. They are not beautiful, but they are elegant. But, I think Mikasa could have done more with the mug to give it as much personality as the plates.

Beautifully designed microwaveable/dishwasher proof porcelain dishes in soft white--excellent sized set
So many top chefs plate with white dishes to beautifully set off the food. I've started doing it myself, and even with our ordinary-style meals (including take-out) have come to prefer the plating of food on white china.Plain white plates--round--makes food look nice but just doesn't add much interest to the table. I usually use square white china for that reason, but these Mikasa dishes solve the problem so much better. They are tasteful and simple in color--a soft "antique" white. The soup/salad bowl is the perfect depth to hold a really good, full bowl of soup (nearly 30oz) --excellent when soup is the main meal. The soup bowl (6" across; 3" tall) has a graceful curve toward the top and added lines of raised white porcelain along the sides to make it prettier (and also more functional if you have anyone drinking Asian-style, providing a grip if they lift the bowl up to their lips). The set doesn't include a tea cup and saucer. Instead, more usefully, there's a 14oz "cappuccino mug"--a coffee cup that holds about twice as much as the usual china tea cups. Nice! What I liked most about this were the plates. First, the salad plate is the largest one I have (8 1/2" but seems bigger). The lip of it is only slightly raised, too, so I could really see using this as my "meal plate" if dining alone. (Also nice for portion control while dieting. An ideal size). And of course, used for salad it has plenty of room in the center and surrounds the salad with a decorative edge--about 1" wide all around--that has that nice Asian-influenced shape to it. The only possible drawback for someone (not for me, as I need the portion control) is that the dinner plate area for serving food isn't that much larger than 8 inches or so across, because the design is raised around it. So it's a bit smaller space than if you had 10".The 10 1/2" dinner plate has the same design, a bit larger surface, of course, but it isn't a "boring white china plate". It is tastefully simple, sets off the food beautifully with the soft white color and then adds a beautiful design feature with the multiple edges along the outside giving a graceful and versatile design. The set is porcelain, but is chip resistant--also dishwasher- and microwave- safe.Definitely recommended, particularly for those looking for white dishes with some elegance and creativity in the styling.

Good Choice for Everyday Dinnerware
Mikasa is known for quality porcelain, so I knew that I'd like this MIKASA ANTIQUE WHITE 4-PIECE PLACE SETTING. This pattern is a good starter-set choice for anyone, because it's plain white, decorated with a sort of flat, fluted edge around the plates and flat fluting on the bowl and mug. There are no colorful flowers or butterflies or geometric shapes to get tired of, when the dinnerware is in everyday use.The shape of the mug makes this place setting more casual than formal, but the pattern is still very good for guest entertaining. The fact that the dinnerware is microwave and dishwasher safe is a big plus. The only thing I don't care for, is the octagonal shape of the dinner and salad plates, which means the table must be set more carefully to avoid a haphazard look. Because I would prefer round plates, I rate this Mikasa Antique White dinnerware at 4 stars ("I like it" on the official Amazon scale).

Classic Appeal - Subtle Elegance
This is a very pretty pattern with an understated elegance. If you don't like a lot of flash but just simple beauty, these are a good match for you. The bowl is deep and the pattern is subtle. It's not too thick so it doesn't feel like a heavy duty stoneware, just a good quality dinnerware. It has a very classic look and appeal.

Nice Setting
This is a lovely place setting. The plates are perfectly sized and the bowl is great for eating cereal. I had hoped that the mug would be slightly wider so that it would hold a nice big cup of coffee, but I guess I can use it for tea instead.
