Cursed (Gilded)

Loved this book
The second and final book in the Gilded series. I fell upon this series of books when I was struggling to sleep one night. Thinking it would be a good one to drop in and out of how wrong could I be. Good character builds, really good story line and such a joy to read. Instead of dipping in I devoured it and will definitely be buying more books from this author. She has a very fresh and individual style. I definitely encourage others to read them ..... I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

A new book review this way comes
I adored the first book and it had me fully enveloped into the world and anxious for the sequel to find out what would happen, so I was excited when I finally got the chance! The events take place straight after the end of the first book and you spend the majority of the book trying to work out 1) how Serilda is going to get out of it and 2) what is the Erlking up to?There was definitely a part of me that worried that we would see a love triangle but happily this was not the case. One thing that did bug me was an extension of the miscommunication trope in that Serilda didn’t tell Gild he was the father and other than to extend the length of the story I’m not sure it was worth including.I loved the ‘children’ and the moments Serilda spent with them were very cute and endearing. It was nice to get to know them a little better after the first book.I do think the book could have been a little shorter, there were times where it seemed that we the reader were just waiting for stuff to happen and rather than a time jump.Without spoilers it’s hard to explain the rest of the book but I will say I enjoyed the new female character and would have enjoyed more time with her.Overall I enjoyed the book but I think the first book tips it, with some editing this could probably have been one large book rather than two though! Thanks to Netgalley and Faber and Faber for my advanced reading copy.

I absolutely enjoyed this book
I absolutely enjoyed this book, if it felt a bit too long. But when I think back to every part of this book, I liked every part and everything is important and is there for a reason, so I can't think of anything that shouldn't be there. And then I think it might be that this duology would have feel better as a trilogy as Gilded also felt a bit too long.Other than that this was great, so very emotional, I spent most of this book with bated breath, both wanting and dreading the next page. It was actually a moment that after giving us so much hope it was completely crushed again and I stopped reading for a whole day until I was able to pick it up again. All this story despite being a retelling is so creative, and descriptive, the world building, magic system and characters so perfect. I still love that the handsome villain remains the handsome villain by the end, without finding the goodnes in him or failling in love with oht hero, as is so common lately. I loved the gods and their interpretations, and the ending was so satisfying, after so many hardships, I was ready for a bittersweet ending but I have to say I am very happy this was a HEA.

Superb and Satisfying Ending to Intricate Exciting Story
I am so impressed with Marissa Meyer's ability to weave together fascinating characters, creative imaginary worlds and classic fairy tale stories. She did it masterfully in the four books that make up the The Lunar Chronicles and now she has done it again with the Gilded Duology - Gilded and Cursed.I will not say much about the story because I don't want to spoil a moment of it for the reader but I will say the following:Definitely read Gilded before reading Cursed. If you liked -but did not love- Gilded, I still highly recommend Cursed. I actually found it the more enjoyable of the two.i disagree with the reviews that criticized the pacing (I thought it was perfect) and the one that said Serilda was a weak main character. I thought the exact opposite. She displayed amazing strength of will and great courage throughout. The dark elements are pretty dark in these books and some of the imagery is grotesque. For that reason I would not recommend them for anyone younger than 12.If you are unsure about whether or not to buy, use the Look Inside This Book feature. It gives you enough of the book to know if you will enjoy the writing style.Happy reading!

Marvelous
E a Leyna? Me nota! Eu amei, amei, amei o livro!Recomendo demais.

Sadly disappointing
Loved the first book. Couldn't put it down and i hoped the sequel would blow me away too. But the mc just frustrated me to no end. She seemed so dense sometimes and I felt like a lot of the story was so repetitive and slooow moving. In the end I skipped half the book and even got a refund. I'm really disappointed, because I like the authors other books and this was so promising...

A fabulous conclusion
“All Magic comes at a price, are you willing to sacrifice that which you love most?”Cursed By Marissa Meyer with a snoozy PuddinThis is the sequel to Gilded, a reimagining of the classic Rumpelstiltskin fairy-tale, but so much darker & twistier! We once again follow Serilda, the silver-tongued storyteller, determined to free herself, Gild, & all those who have been trapped in Adelheid Castle by the evil Erlking and his court of demons & monsters. If you’re expecting a fun & sweet fairy-tale retelling then this duology won’t be for you! It without a doubt harkens back to more Brothers Grim style stories. It’s a classic tale of good VS evil, with no form of redemption or sympathy for the villains, which is honestly a refreshing change. This was an enchanting read the whole way through, however the last third of the book really amps up the tension & ominous vibes, setting the scene for some amazing chapters full of reveals & shocks. Marissa did such a beautiful job with the world & character building, she without a doubt has a silver tongue of her own to weave such tales. There are stories within stories in this book as Serilda weaves tales presumably from thin air for the sweet children under her charge who she will do anything to free. I loved all the descriptions of the different mythical creatures, both the nightmarish ones & the beautiful ones, the descriptions are written so well I can perfectly picture them in my minds eye & what I wouldn’t give to have the talent to draw them. I was a little sad when the story finished, & wished for more of an epilogue when it was finished, but I will absolutely be rereading this in the future!
