1342 Euro Hinge Jig

All components necessary are included, including instructions. Three of the parts are snapped into clips on the bottom of the jig (the 1/16" drill bit, the edge stop pin, and the marking gauge). The 35 mm forstner bit is of good quality and sharp. It cut the holes in my doors nicely. One thing that is not mentioned in the instructions is that it is probably a good idea to put a light film of grease on the shaft of the forstner drill bit. I suggest grease because you don't want oil running down the shaft and staining your wood. When installing the drill guide for the forstner bit into the base, line the tabs on the side of the guide up with the slots in the base of the jig, and them be sure it is pressed all the way down before trying to rotate it clockwise to lock it into position. I struggled with that for a bit before I realized I didn't have it pushed down quite all the way. When drilling, try to insure that you are applying pressure straight down rather than leaning one way or another. If you're leaning, you will be applying pressure to the drill guide. The bearing surface of the drill guide is steel but it's not very thick. If you are applying side pressure, it might heat up and begin to soften the surrounding plastic which will then deform. The above mentioned lubricant will help prevent this. The jig provides 4 sets of 1/16" guide holes for for pre-drilling the mounting screw holes for the hinge. You may have to mark them by pushing the provided drill bit through each hole to mark the wood surface and then remove the jig and, using a hinge, determine which pair of holes you need to drill for your particular hinge. The jig can then be replaced accurately so you can drill the holes. The instructions show using a clamp to secure the jig to the door during drilling. I strongly suggest that you do that so you can concentrate on keeping your drill straight and not have to worry about holding the jig in position. For my hinges (Blum) the mounting holes were not quite exactly correct. But they were only of by .010" or .020" and they worked just fine anyway. Bottom line is I am very happy with this jig.

as with all milescraft products the instructions leave a bit to be desired, they're multilingual and it gets confusing on where to go next, with that said watch a you-tube video and it's a lot clearer. now for the actual review this thing is awesome once you get to use it, practice first on scrap!. once you get the hang of it it's terrific, the best part is it's self contained, everything stays on the tool for storage, it has the Allen wrench you need for the collar, it even has a drill bit for the screws all stored on the tool, that's a huge plus, as for set up it's really easy if you use common hinges the settings are there already need a non standard dimension no problem, a pair of clamps (sold separately but i bet you already have something that'll work) and clamp it to the piece! easy peasy! how long will it last/ no idea but i don't buy milescraft for extreme daily use I'm a hobbyist so it'll last me some time, a pro may keep it on hand for an emergency or to teach an intern

First time building a cabinet with hidden hinges - figured I would want a jig to locate the holes. While this jig is serviceable, it seemed to have some flex. And the sleeve that the bit rides in showed signs of galling almost immediately. Probably best to use some lubricant. It got the job done, but if you have a drill press and the right bit, with careful measuring you could do the job without this jig. The jig does work, but I think there is room for improvement.

This jig is so easy to use. I was a little reluctant to try installing this type of hinge but this tool made it sooo easy. Every hinge fit perfectly.. Highly recommended..

I saw some all-aluminum jigs here on Amazon for about 2x or more the price. And at first, I considered getting one, thinking it would be better than plastic. But most didn't have that good of reviews unless you paid a lot. And the ones I saw didn't include a drill guide for inside the cabinet, which I need. I'm only drilling for two doors, so I don't need a high-end jig. This plastic jig might not last forever, but it is plenty rugged for my sized project. It comes with a guidepost to do 3" or 4" from edge of door. I happen to need 5", but not a big deal, I just won't use the guidepost and measure it manually. It has offset settings of 2.5 to 7mm. I thought I was going to need a custom offset more than 7mm, which would be very difficult to do with this jig. But I was mistaken, I need a standard 4mm offset and so it works perfect. I'm sure 99% of users will be satisfied with the offset choices. It comes with the Forstner bit, locking collar, Allen wrench for the locking collar, a 1/16" pilot drill for the mounting screws, a guidepost, and a template for drilling the mount on the cabinet. All the misc pieces snap into place on the bottom of the jig. This is pretty much everything you need besides a power drill and a clamp. Another user suggested putting a little grease, not liquid oil, onto the shaft of the Forstner bit to prevent it from overheating the plastic of the jig. This is a good idea. As far as how good is the Forstner bit, it worked perfect for my project, but I only had two doors to drill. I can't say how long it will last. Now, as far as drill guide for the mounting screws, there are 4 sets of holes to choose from. And yet, none of the 4 sets seemed perfect. What I did was, drilled the main hole with 4 mm offset. But then changed it to 2mm offset and one of the sets of holes was where I needed them to be. I'm not sure why I needed to do that, but it worked for me. If you do cabinets for a living, you might need something more advanced, durable than a plastic jig. But for a hobbyist or homeowner needing to do a household of cabinets, this is an excellent value.

This jig worked great. I used it to cut holes on laminate kitchen cabinet doors. It cut easily with precise cuts. My Blum hinges fit perfectly. The two standard depth settings were too deep for my hinges, but I was able to manually adjust the depth after testing it on existing holes. This is a really great product.

Yes it works. I set my first 4 euro hinges in a red oak frame, but skepticism helped--a lot. I drilled dummy holes in a chunk of 3/4"plywood. It didn't go well: plywood had uneven glue layers that snagged the Forstner bit and jerked it around persistently. That showed how unstable the thin plastic frame and bit guide structure were: The test hole was more conical than cylindrical. Lesson 1): Use 2 clamps. Not the single clamp pictured in the product page. 2): For plywood doors, use a drill press instead. A second hole in oak went well (no layer bucking) but the jig's max depth calibration was shy almost 1/4 inch. A couple of easy adjustments of the stop collar cured that. Next thing I noticed was the hole was visibly off-center within the jig over a 1/16". It did not align with the screw hole drill apertures with the hinge pocket. There's no possible adjustment so I used the hinge as template instead. The tiny (1/16") bit survived only 2 pilot holes. I upgraded to a larger bit, more suitable for oak and ignored the skewed jig template. Not a fatal defect. What would be a fatal defect--if I were making a vast house load of cabinet doors--is the general flimsiness of construction. If the Forstner shaft guide had metal legs, and the base platform were a solid hunk of plastic I'd give it five stars, ignoring the trivial--even unnecessary--nature of the misaligned screw hole pilots.

Ce gabarit est bien pratique pour installer des charnières, il est livré avec des butées, une mèche Fostner de 35mm, une petit mèche d'1,5 pour les trous des vis latérale, un guide pour marquer l'emplacement sur le panneau latéral. Ce gabarit permet d'installer 2 charnières sur les portes et les montants en 10 min environ.
