SMALLRIG Video Camera Cage for Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 G80 Cameras - 1950

The smallrig is perfect for the G85 (without battery grip). I can change the battery without taking off the rig. I used it this summer to shoot some videos.Some minor notes:1) If you want to connect it in two places, the tripod slot works well, but for the other attachment, you have to take off the small triangle for attaching the strap on the right side in order to connect the second screw. The cage has places to attach the straps, so for a permanent installation, it isn't as much of a deal. I have since switched to using Peak designs anchor links (which are easier to remove) and I have removed the triangles, so when I use it again, it will be easier to use.2) I mostly shoot stills but some days, I mostly shoot video with the G85 and would use the cage. This cage blocks the pop-up flash, but you can use the external flash with the camera in the cage.3) If you use an external microphone, you may need to remove the 3.5mm cable when taking the camera out of the cage.4) I was shooting some video with the Olympus 9-18mm lens, and I was using an external microphone with a dead cat filter. I noticed that using the default cold shoe for the microphone, you could see the fringe from the dead cat cover. I now have a riser to mount the microphone higher (yeah, yeah, I should have checked it before using it).

I really like this camera cage. It makes adding accessories like a microphone preamp or small monitor a snap. I like that it has dovetails for quick disconnect of certain items. The only thing I don't like about this item is that at the bottom edge there are three holes drilled and tapped but it is off center and the holes are so close to the edge of the metal that if you have to tighten down a screw hard there it could break. I mean there is only like a few .002"-.004" of metal there to hold it. Not sure if the blank just wasn't positioned right when machined. Other than that this thing is awesome!

This rig rocks. I was able to get my camera in & out no issues. I could also add a bunch of additionals to the rig with ease. It made me feel safe & secure. Unlike my ex. Damn you, Taylor. This is the second SmallRig cage I have owned. I have another one for a Fujifilm XT-3 for work. This one was purchased for my personal camera that I use for video and light photo. If you are shooting video and working with mics, lighting and other attachments, then this is a must-have for you. Having all of the attachment points are great! This stays sturdy and there is no stress on the camera. I also like all of the SmallRig attachments like a handle and cold shoe mounts you can get. Everything can be a bit pricey. Would recommend.

Works perfectly and is a great price. A solid foundation to rig out my Lumix G85. Highly recommend.

I am always working with things attached to my Lumix G85, and the top shoe was not enough. This sturdy cage is like a suit of armor for the camera, and gives me all sorts of mounting points for everything. A must have for me. Sure it adds a little bulk and weight, but the camera is already so small and light that I'm not bothered by it.

great build quality, pretty lightweight and very functional. one thing that i hate about the cage is, how they didnt bother to kinda curve one part on the top of it and its kind of blocking the video record button (check the picture) other than that im pretty happy with it.

My G85 never leaves the cage these days. Amazing fit and various mounting/porting features. Once fitted there is almost infinite mounting possibilities
