Greatest Invention For Boys age 7+
The dude diary must be one of the best gifts for every little boy. I have twin boys, 8 years old that have never spent this much time on a book before. Not only is this pretty educational as they are reading and writing but also tons of fun!! This is also a new learning experience for me as I'm now having to respect their "privacy" by not reading their diary :-) There is nothing in this book that exposes boys to anything other than innocent, goofy, silly, gross boys type things. I love how the diary indirectly encourages creativity. I obviously looked through this book/diary prior to giving the boys each one and now being "banned" :-) This is a definite must have for 2nd,3rd and 4th graders.

The best boy diary ever!
My grandson wanted a locking diary so his little brother couldn't read his entries. All such items in stores were clearly geared toward girls - pink, purple, fussy and bejeweled. I gave up and searched online where the locking 'Dude Diary' was the clear and lone head-runner. It's not just a blank book but gives questions and ideas to write about on every page, encouraging a broader use of vocabulary and making the book more special for the memories it holds. He loves this diary so much he carried it around under his arm for a full week after Christmas despite receiving many other engaging activities available. His only concern was running out of space but I reassured him there is a whole series of 'Dude Diaries' and we'll purchase each one as he needs them, another great selling point. The diary now has a special spot under his pillow but he agreed to show me just one page where he was asked to tell about his best friend. His short answer: My Dad ( 'Worth every cent!)

Great for young boys!
I bought this for my 7 year old nephew, who has been asking for a journal. I found this at a great price on amazon, so I decided to get this for him in hopes he would like it. I was hesitant since this was called a "diary" and he is ALL boy, and made a statement about how diaries are girly.I got a phone call the minute he received the package, and I could barely understand him he was so excited! He takes this "diary" with him everywhere, and it is pretty neat! He is in 2nd grade and learning how to write and this is a great educational toy. He doesn't even realize it, because it's so much fun!!! I highly recommend this!

Awesome
I bought this for my 10 year old son as a gift to encourage him to write (and also to reflect on himself a bit). It has a bunch of questions to be answered and it locks to keep out nosy siblings (or parents)!

For boys who love the Dude books!
My 9 year-old loves Dude 1 & 2, so getting him this was a no-brainier. He absolutely LOVES it. The pages are full of ideas for writing about, which is great for a boy his age. I think it encourages him to write more, because it has jumping-off themes to get him started. He loves that there is a lock with keys so it is super secret and private. (By the way, the lock is tricky; put the key in with the grooves facing UP, not down as you would with a 'real' lock.) this book has sparked his imagination and got him writing and thinking.

Great for my 9 year old son
My son isn't big into reading or writing. However we started doing homeschooling and I wanted him to do a journal entry each day. This book is awesome for the kid that's not a fan of "work". He's 9 but these prompts are short enough and entertaining enough for him that it's not a fight to get him to do one a day. Definitely recommend for pre teen boys!

Used books, check carefully
It was not clear that I was ordering a used book. I actually went back and looked at the item on Amazon again and it took some looking to see that it was only available in "used acceptable" condition, Amazon has changed their formatting and I didn't know to look that closely. So, I can't use the product because what kid wants a diary that has already been written in. But it does look like it would have fit the bill - for trying to engage a kid who doesn't mind writing for school but wouldn't want to journal. Short but interesting prompts. So, 4-5 stars for the book but 2 stars for Amazon.

Great for creativity
My son has loved these since he was able to write on his own (about 6 years old, and he is now 8). I am an English major and always loved writing in diaries and journals, but the ones at the stores are more geared toward girls. This one is CLEARLY masculine and my son has spent hours writing in this diary. We enjoyed it so much that we purchased others from this publisher as well. There are blank pages, drawing pages, and questions to answer to prompt the kids to write and think outside the box. I am very glad we purchased this.

GREAT GIFT IDEA FOR BEGINNING READERS TO TEEN YEARS
I`d been looking for a diary with a lock for ages and this is the perfect fit for a boy in early reading stages and beyond. Fun questions like `what`s your favorite tv showÉ`, `What do you like on your hotdogsÉ, who is your favourite superhero and why. Fun things for boys to think about and answer as well as places to put their own ideas or thoughts down.

well designed product
this secret diary is well designed, with a variation of drawings, jokes and ideas that guide the kids in their diary writing, and the humour is perfect for 9-12 yr olds boys that find everything yucky hilarious! there are of course empty pages for free-thought. one minimal aspect is that this product is american so some of the words might not be entirely familiar, but buy this product anyway. it is MUCH better than a diary with empty pages.this product was supplied by Book Depository via regular mail, and despite them predicting a 2 week delivery it arrived 3 days after ordering. excellent service.

Nice way to encourage my seven year old to write.
Bought for my seven year old and he really enjoys having a "secret" place to write things down. He also enjoys how the book prompts him to answer questions about his thoughts/likes/dislikes. Has helped encourage his writing.

A great diary for boys
Fab diary / note book perfect for my son, he's going to love it. Great headings for him to write under too. It's not a diary in the sense of dates and days of the week, more a journal of favourite things etc.

Fun little diary
The product is good. Well designed with written snippets/humour inside. The cover could be harder. Bought for my 8 year old but think it would suit an older boy 10 plus better. Comes with two keys for the lock.
