Surprisingly good solution, worth the extra cost!
Xcluder is a very effective way to block holes and gaps where critters can come in. I've used it to block obvious gaps around pipes, gaps in siding, gaps around garage doors. I even used it to prevent rodents from getting into our outdoor AC unit. They had been getting in and gnawing on the wiring requiring multiple service calls. Once I realized what the root cause was I filled the gaps in the AC housing using Xcluder and the problem was solved permanently. Excluder is much stronger than steel wool, but still can be cut with a scissors. Xcluder comes in a long roll so you can fill a large area without leaving gaps between the separate pieces of steel wool. And Xcluder doesn't rust. It's spongy and springy so it fills the hole and then reexpands slightly to stay in place naturally. Steel wool tends to stay squished once it's compressed, Xcluder bounces back. I was surprised how effective and useful Xcluder is and always keep some on hand. Our home is out in the countryside and critters are a constant battle, but once I find the access point Xcluder is my go-to solution to keep them out.

Best steel wool to keep out mice
This is the best I found to keep out mice. Be careful to wear gloves. Very expensive but worth it

Great blocker!
Great for blocking mice and rats - put cement over it and you’ll be secure!

True Rodent Guard
This stuff is amazing, I haven’t had rodent problems since I packed this into crevices in my roof. It handles like a cactus and pricks anything that tries to grab onto it. I covered a square foot hole in my foundation with it. Put rocks on top to prevent mice from pushing it. Let’s just say the original dirt tunnel became a whole excavation site. Fortunately for me, the mice gave up. They didn’t even try pulling on the material either. Nothin like sharp pain to deliver a subtle message. I would definitely wear puncture resistant gloves, but bare hands is possible. It is water permeable, fyi.

Very happy with the product . . .
A rodent found it’s way into our all concrete crawlspace by gnawing at the wooden lattice that surrounds the apron of our pier and beam house that is 5’ above ground. The concrete wall is 5’ high and is 5’ into the ground concreted into concrete beams so the only evidence of him getting in is this one spot where the builder created a “ledge” for a power beam to sit in the concrete wall, but a beam wasn’t called for on the plan in this spot so . . . . (Builders 🤦♀️). Anyway, I removed the lattice and built up layers enclosed by two layers of cooper mesh. My stapling work looks messy (difficult to do upwards and in such a small space), but will sit flat behind the lattice face. This should preclude any future rodents from attempting to access our crawlspace. My only other option was to form and pour concrete in this recessed ledge. Not as convenient as the chosen methodology. USE WORK GLOVES. You don’t want to touch this without gloves. Also, when cutting or trimming by tearing, small pieces of the steel wool could potentially fall off, so make sure you check your clothing post installation before going inside your home. (I wore black work pants and a black shirt that clearly reflected any steel wool residue. You wouldn’t want to track small pieces of steel wool on the floor that would be dangerous for children and/or pets.) Happy buyer here.

Protect your structures, and protect yourself while installing
I really appreciate the result from this product. Rodents do not like it and it has made a huge difference by plugging holes where they creep in. I went from a mouse a day to none. You would be surprised how small a hole gives them access. I learned about it from a professional after a service call that totally worked. My only complaint is when you cut the material and shove it into holes, fibers are released into the air that get on your skin, clothes, eyes, and your breathing. Make sure to be properly protected so it doesn't get on you or in you. Also wear work gloves, there are metal fibers woven into the material that will pierce your skin.

Helping with the mouse problem
We get mice in the basement when it gets cold out. This is our second winter in this house and we started getting mice in the basement. While we knew from the previous owners that it happens, we don't like it so we have stuffed every nook and cranny we can find with this stuff while using traps to catch the ones that had already gotten in. It seems to work. There is one more spot we think we need to stuff but its in a really hard to reach spot so we have left our traps out, so far the only movement has been on the trap by that spot, all of the other traps have been mouse free for weeks, so it seems to work. For interior type holes (ie. garage to basement) we just stuffed this in the holes. For any exterior spots (ie. outside walls at the corner of the basement windows) we stuffed this then used spray foam sealant. On a side note, I had our pest guy come in for a different suspected issue and he noticed our handiwork with this stuff. He confirmed this is the exact product they use (along with putting traps everywhere). Side note: we found the D-con no view, no touch moustraps to be worthless. The bait is only covered by a piece of paper in the center, the mice just ate thru the paper and never triggered the trap. We have pets and have caught several mice (some fairly sizable, in fact, one drug the trap pretty far away from it's starting point before it died - gross) in the d-CON Reusable Covered Mouse Snap Traps but have yet to catch a pet in one.

I had problems with mice entering the weeping holes in the brick work of our house scuttling up the inside of the brick and residing in the attic. A small strip of this product blocks the hole completely but allows needed drainage. Made with stainless steel wire so should last a long time. No mice since installation and we were getting 12 to 15 every winter . Product isn’t cheap but it works and contains enough material for several homes.
