On Yoolis Night

Such calm beautiful music. We enjoy this cd very much.

This is a replacement CD for my original which was worn out. I was disappointed to see that the cd jacket was damaged and the case was cracked.

I have had this CD for since it was new back in 1992. I lent the CD to a friend then moved far away! Never got it returned and so for 38 years or so, I just had the thick accompanying booklet with the lyrics. I loved these women (Anonymous 4) the performance is super tight with medieval carols and motets for woman's quartet. One of the performers is now on our local PBS FM Radio Station as a DJ for classic music. I missed the album so much that I found it on Amazon and ordered away! Now for the festive holiday season, I will have a more complete collection of music~

Anonymous 4 cannot produce a bad CD. All of their music connotes heavenly voices, angelic voices.

For all those like me who, by December 23rd, are ready to have a full-blown screaming fit if they have to endure yet one more hackneyed round of "O Holy Night," O, Little Town of Bethlehem," "The Holly and the Ivy," "Hark the Herald Angels," or "Little Drummer Boy," this beautiful record is your soothing antidote. These haunting melodies--sung as if by angels and recorded beautifully--will transport you inside the stone walls of an abbey in medieval Europe, where Christmas music is solemnly devotional--not tacky, commercial, overdone muzak. "On Yoolis Night" made me want to pray and meditate in peace, revering the birth of the Messiah. Which is a whole lot nicer than wanting to throw that full-blown screaming fit. Highly recommended.

This is actually the second time I have purchased this CD. I loaned it to a friend and never got it back, yet it is an integral part of my Christmas celebration. I wanted to have it in my music library. These four voices are so beautiful, and evoke images of stone cathedrals and candles. The music gives me a chance to experience the past, in new and glorious ways. I highly recommend it as an antidote to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

I love this album. The music is beautifully arranged and easy to listen to. I love listening to it while I cook or wrap presents.

Are you stressed by the hectic preparations for the festive season ? Do you feel that commercialism has somewhat muffled the real meaning of Christmas ? If so (and maybe if you don't agree) take a seventy minute break, put the Christmas tree lights on and listen to this wonderful CD. The faith our medieval ancestors had shines through in the beauty and simplicity of these pieces. The singing ? Absolutely breathtaking, impeccable pitch and balance conveying perfectly the spirit of these songs. difficult to pick a highlight but if you want a "taster" choose the final track "Nowel. Owt of your sleep aryse" a lovely carol with a chorus. Purity, beauty and faith.

Four women singing medieval carols and hymns without any instrumental backup. Some of the tracks are interesting and catchy, but it's really one just for the fan of medieval music.

A delightful album which can be listened to at any time of the year. It is relaxing but also perfect for unusual background music at Christmas. Its a lovely quality recording and one I will treasure for Christmases to come. Recommended.

Atmospheric and well sung so a good addition to my Christmas music

I have known this record all my life and finally decided I wanted my own copy. Just a wonderful CD.
