Up dated.. First you have to squeeze to take safety catch off (that packed up working on first use). I'm not weak but achieving this used a lot of muscle power. Then there was a click on investigation the hook that is used for the safety catch is fouling the casing. Cutting! I decided to try it out on pruning, to be fair it did cut through some thick branches but the ratchet works intermittently and you really need to put some wist effort in. Maybe I got a faulty item but the build quality is bad. Overall I'm happy with this product, but I would not advise anybody with weak hands to buy. Amazon at least try and get some QC going with these suppliers please.

I can't believe how angry this purchase has made me, so angry that I've come in from the garden to write this review. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!!! WILL ONLY CAUSE UPSET, STRESS AND ANGER!!!!!! Impossible to cut anything before the rachet clicks and that's it, all you are left with is a mark where you want to cut. The rachet clicks in and all cutting power is lost. Absolute crap, so very disappointed 😞

These are not the only Davaon secateurs we have. We have purchased two pairs over two years ago and have been so happy that we have recommended them to friends and family. But these are the first ratchet secateurs, and they are up to the same quality as we have become familiar with. But that ratchet mechanism makes cutting thick wooden hedges a breeze. They take the effort out of cutting, and they feel so well built that you have no worry about them not being able to cut such thick wooden stems. Adore them and should have purchased these ages ago.Update: Whilst these are great, it only took a week and the metal pin for the ratchet mechanism popped out. making them useless. They are now waiting to be returned for a refund.

I had another brand some years ago of ratchet secateurs which had a lot of use but sadly paid the price. I have had to use normal secateurs until I got round to ordering these. Similar quality to previous one and they have already had a lot of use. The ratchet mechanism does mean they can cut much thicker branches than normal secateurs. I have a range of branch cutting tools up to 70mm but these are more handy to use than the larger cutters.

I walk in woodland every morning and use them for cutting back brambles and small branches likely to catch someones eyes. My last pair lasted 8 years when the ratchet pin wore and that ratchet wouldn't opperate. I'm 85 and need the assistents of the ratchet.
