RØDE NTH-100 Professional Over-ear Headphones For Content Creation, Music Production, Mixing and Audio Editing, Podcasting, Location Recording (Black)

OK, Had these babys just over a day now and my initial first thoughts are WOW, firstly the build quality on these is stellar love the construction of the yokes and the twisted metal which is something I have never seen before on any headphone design and gives them a touch of individuality. The pads are a unique shape and when I ordered these I did wonder if they would encompass my ears and be comfortable , Iam no Dumbo don't get me wrong but I do have larger than average ears but they dont stick out but the triangle shape openings fit nice and snug around my ears without pressing up against them, because of the shape of the opening my conclusion is they actually look smaller than they actually are. The dual sided cable option is another lovely touch from Rode and one which Iam sure will become more of the norm eventually with other manufacturers. The pads are lovely and soft and as a glasses wearer find them provide a good seal. SOUND......these are very similar to the sound signature of the Sennheiser 6XX stellar headphone, Rode have done a great job on these and being their first foray into the crowded headphone market I must say Iam very impressed and this is coming from someone who has listened to a lot of the major players and their best efforts and these are not my first headphone but could well be one of my last or at least one of my favourites for closed backs. To describe this by summing up I would say the words smooth but detailed in no way harsh or sibilant , forgiving but honest and instruments sound VERY natural and voices also have a resonance and honesty about them also maybe slightly pushed back in the mix but thats minimal. The soundstage is not huge in any shape or form but these being closed back I would not expect that but the imaging and seperation is superb (like the 600 series 6XX) Bass is tight and deep when it is called for in fact my EQ settings are normally giving a little lift to the bass shelf but with the Rode I found I just flattened it out completely and had no EQ setting whatsoever just let them do their thing which with a monitor headphone is what the manufacturer really wants. Just a great sounding closed back headphonne , stellar build quality with unique features and pads.

Notwithstanding the fact the ear cup brackets/hinges to the headband are known to be quite frail (see below revision - the problem has been solved permanently by Rode now), this set of headphones is superb. Rode have obviously worked extremely hard to engineer these to deliver a neutral and very detailed sound. You'll want to listen to all your favourite tracks to discover what you've been missing if you've been listening to them with anything else. The treble response is pristine, but can also sound a bit much if the source material hasn't been equalised correctly or there's upper-register distortion. Listening to "stripped" by Depeche Mode is hard with these headphones, as Dave Gahan's voice sounds rather harsh at times. But on 99.9% of the music I do listen to, whilst these headphones really do bring out the high-end detail, they were incredibly listenable and the extra detail is really appreciated. Nor can you say these sound too treble-orientated. You simply can't deny the bass response. Listen to the opening drum beats of Lorde's Royals at high volume, and you get an ear-drum (and ear) vibrating bass with huge weight behind it, yet still tightly controlled. You come away from trying these with a huge appreciation for what Rode has achieved. Their first attempt at reversing the relationship between air molecule and electron movement is a resounding success and they're going the right way about gaining a world-wide reputation for headphones as they currently have for microphones. One note. The lead supplied with the phones does have one end specifically designed to plug into the headphones themselves, even though both ends are 3.5mm jacks. This is because one end has a more plastic body with a twist-lock mechanism moulded into it, to stop it coming out of the headphones. If you fit the wrong end of the lead to headphones, or don't get the twist lock to engage, you'll get a horrible sound through these as the connector isn't making all the connections it should. Oh, and be careful with how you handle these headphones taking them on and off your head and storing them, if you want the hinges to last. I'd like to add that 8 months down the line, I'm as pleased with my NTH-100s as I was when I first got them. No hinge trauma! I've had a chance to compare these to the Sony 7506/1 professional studio headphones, which is another popular choice amongst buyers. I previously mentioned the Rode headphones may be a little too bright and could make some source material sound a little harsh at high listening levels. I can tell you that at those scratchy 2kHz - 4kHz frequencies, the Sony 7506 sound harder than the Rode NTH-100, but then potentially don't have quite as much very high frequency detail as the Rode headphones. There also seems to be a touch more low/weighty bass response compared to the Rode units. My judgement now is that the Rode headphones definitely strike a more listenable balance, even up to high listening levels. The 7506 could potentially be said to sound a little "peaky" at extreme lows and in the 2-4kHz range, and lacking in extreme HF. If I had to choose, I'd still pick the Rode as fantastic neutral sounding headphones and definitely a product that offers a sound quality which belies their price. Buy the Rode NTH-100 as they are most listenable "reference" headphones you'll ever need. REVISION -2 years on from purchase. My original hinges finally failed and I sent the headphones back to Rode for repair. Their customer support was very attentive, making sure I'd managed to get the repair booked in. It was as easy as sending the item back using an insured service after first making sure I'd registered my product on their website with proof of purchase and waiting for their explicit authorisation to return the item. 2 weeks on and I received replacement headphones. Sounding absolutely fantastic as usual. Better than ever in fact. I noticed the design of the FitLok hinges has changed significantly in response to the original issue, and I guess this is a permanent change for all newly manufactured headphones, so this is a none-issue now for anyone considering purchasing.

Trust me, you are getting so much for the price. What wins it for me is the very-close-to-natural frequency response as a lot of headphones are infamous for coloring the sound, meaning you're not getting an accurate idea of what media like music or gaming wants you to hear, but for the NTH-100s, you're getting very close to typical hearing with a few slight enhancements to help your hearing experience. Despite obviously being a wired-only set of headphones, its cable offers a lot of length which gives me more than enough to not feel tethered to my chair and multi-task other things in my room while listening to music from my PC. Additionally, the headphones themselves never feel fatiguing to wear thanks to the comfort. To be honest, I don't think I could find anything better for my use cases...

I really love the sound of this headphone. The comfort is excellent and build is great with one 'Serious Manufacturer Issue' that compromises the product completely. The side adjustment mechanism has a design / build flaw that will be fatal to every headphone. If it hasn't snapped yet... IT WILL.... Rode offer a life time guarantee but this is hassle and you have to pay the shipping costs each and every time they break. As a studio headphone, the adjustment mechanism deems it a 'no buy'. However, I love how they sound so I will keep mine and I will add a 4mm connecting bolt (looks ugly) - I can live with it in my office where no one will see them.. Should be a global recall by Rode and they should apply a metal piece fix instead of the same plastic adjustments - Come on Rode, an amazing headphone and such a let down!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’ve possibly not heard of Rode because they are microphone people. They are known in the video world for producing excellent value microphones and most people that make YouTube videos like myself have more than one Rode microphone in their collection. I have many of them and they’re all really solid performers. Rode is an Australian company. The NTH-100 is their first headphone. It’s aimed at producers and videographers. For most video people, monitoring of audio is likely to be done on a Sony 7506 or Beyer DT770. Not because they’re the best headphone, but because they can both be brutal in highlight audio flaws. The 7506 isn’t that great for long listening sessions because of its tonal balance but it is excellent for monitoring. The NTH-100 sounds to me like a middle ground between the dt770 and the 7506. It has good slam but not as fat as the DT770. It has a clean treble, but doesn’t pierce through your head like the 7506 sound. It’s an unusual headphone. Shaped to closely fit your ears so no space in the cups for resonances. (Triangular) The pads are memory foam with cooling gel. Also…. Alcantara. The pads are frankly …. Plush as hell. The cups, once fitted to your head are locked into place, so they never move again. The lead can be connected on left or right side and is extremely flexible. It doesn’t have ‘spring’ in it. It’s quite heavy as far as headphones go, but because of the way it fits, it feels much lighter on your head. I’m not kidding when I say that these are a BARGAIN. Around £130. The sound is really balanced and they sound pretty flat to me. There is perhaps a slight lift in the upper bass but actually, it’s not a lot and I think as far as monitoring headphones go, that’s what makes these headphones useable for music listening as well as monitoring. I did a mix with them, and the mix sounded great on speakers afterwards. That’s a sign that they have a really balanced frequency response. I have to be very careful with the DT770 because of its bass and the 7506 with its treble. This one is way more flat and it shows big time in the mixing. Imaging is extremely good. It’s a closed headphone, but it images like a semi-open headphone. The drivers are closely matched and placement is spot on. I can move people talking in my videos literally by inches with these and clearly hear it. Music listening puts vocalists firmly in centre and sometimes, it seems to put them in their own ‘space’ in the mic. You get a feeling of front to back depth and on some recordings, singers are placed further back in the stage. Really obvious with these. Treble is clear. Not piercing in any way. Fantastic mids but the bass ….. it doesn’t dominate but can really growl at you. You can listen loud if you want. No trouble. 32ohms so driven easily by phones. They make me think of the Sennheiser HD600 but with a better bass response and no ‘veiling’ or ‘harshness’ Rode are an excellent company and their design team took a long time designing this headphone. It’s their first and boy, is it a cracker. It looks good. Feels good and sounds good. One thing…. Without being rude, if you have large ears, the cups might be a problem. My ears fit fine. They made this close fit on purpose to avoid cup resonances.

they're not too bad - comfortable and all, and they're wide enough to fit my big head without crushing - i can use them for a while longer than all the other headphones i have - sound isn't the worst, i don't mix music with them, these are on my gaming machine - i am glad i bought this through amazon because i got a non-hassle refund - rode, in case you are reading this, your products lately have been absolute bottom of the barrel quality - the rodecaster duo is by far the worst piece of equipment sitting on my table - these headphones broke in less than 3 months and being used a couple times a week - this is disgraceful

UPDATE: Yes there was a fault but I must say and add that Rode Australia / UK technical and customer help was first class in resolving my problem and they deserve Top Feedback well done guys well done. So I saw these headphones and for studio use I must say I was taken back by the excellent sound. Even the guitar sections I am currently writing seem to be strangely different. I have always sworn by Sennheiser. These Rode headphones these are stunning! I saw these headphones from RODE my attention was grabbed seeing the headphones were on offer. A little wait for them to arrive and was expected it being close to Christmas. The order arrived no outer packaging but the box you need is inside a clever outer skin. All contents inside perfectly visible the headphones placed inside a nice black cloth bag with a large RODE logo design In white. Now I know someone mentioned about some plastic piece on the head band as being a weak link, that might be so but I thought looking at the constuction of the headphones they don't feel cheap and seem to be well built. Rugged, well designed I mean this is RODE! It's what you come to expect from a company that makes pro gear. I thought wow those speakers Inside those cups I noticed the weight of them In comparison to anything I have had before, you will notice the weight, it's not like your carrying a barbell over years or anything, But certainly tells you the speakers will stand up pretty well, very durable. I take it that a spare cable can be sourced, being able to plug in on either side is also a massive help. I'll keep posted here how they perform. So far they drive and feel just like a Ferarri (TOP DOG) If you never owned a pair of headphones like these your in for a shock! I will update but sooo far I love them. Update: OK they are broken, Headphones are awesome sound, Its just that silly little plastic piece up their on the headband that adjusts the height of the speaker cup.

Well made. sound very clear . Paid double for Bluetooth phones which were not as good sound. Comfortable for a few hours do get hot eventually.

Ho provato cuffie di ogni genere dalle 40 alle 600 euro e senza far nomi tutte le cuffie anche le più costose hanno i suoi pregi e difetti, queste rode per sono top anche se non pesano pochissimo sono di una comodità incredibile, il suono è abbastanza bilanciato da poter fare quasi tutto in cuffia ad un prezzo molto onesto.
