BIG RISK MEANS BIG REWARD. Sometimes in photography, big risk translates to big rewards and perfect photos. Be absolutely confident in the safety of your camera with the JOBY Camera Tether. The ultra-strong nylon braided strap is strong enough to hold a pro DSLR with a zoom lens, yet discreet enough for a CSC or point and shoot cameras. Sometimes, getting the best shot means living on the edge, get additional security for your gear as you attach your camera to the strap, giving you one less thing to worry about.

The cord is strong and secure, it wont break, my camera is safer with this tether
This tether is a great thing to have. The cord is strong and having a carabiner provides a way of attaching and detaching. The carabiner doesn't open and close on a hinge like normal carabiners. Instead there is a part that needs to be twisted to unscrew it, attach it to your strap, then twist it again to tighten it. Though this is likely meant to provide a more secure attachment I have very good carabiners that are secure and safe without the screw method. So I will swap the carabiner to a different one for the sake of conveniance. For my purposes it's a lot easier to open a spring / hinged carabiner than this screw type.I paired this with a Focus F-1 Quick Rapid Shoulder Sling Belt Neck Strap. I use the combination with a Nikon P900 and a Handstrap that attaches via the tripod hole in the camera. The handstrap has to be removed to access the battery and memory card slot (poor camera design), which means the Focus Shoulder strap has to be detached whenever I need to swap the battery or card (it also attaches to the tripod hole). By adding this tether I now have a secure solution for my camera when I swap out the battery and card.I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because of the carabiner style. I dont want to leave the camera on the Focus strap all the time, and I dont want to have to deal with unscrewing a carabiner every time. A hinged style would be a more conveniant solution. It also could be a slightly larger, to accomodate a wider range of strap sizes.

Lowepro / Joby Camera Tether
Received it today Thursday June 19, 2014. I could make my own for cheaper I would say for about $2 to about $5 but I just don't have the time to make a trip to the local hardware store. Also keep in mind that now days things in general are not as cheap as they once were and on top of that I am not sure if I could exactly find the same parts to duplicate.I paired it with my Joby Ultrafit Sling Strap. As the other reviewers may have mentioned this was actually also Joby brand "Not" Lowepro as advertised. In any case it was only $7.95 + shipping and handling it came out to about $14.95. I rather spend the $14.95 and have it as a safety-net just in case the worst case scenario ever happens.$14.95 including shipping vs the replacement of a $200 to $1500 or more for a lens and or other attachments that could possibly become damage. The choice is obvious. I rather have it attached to my camera as a precaution and not need it, than to need it, and not have it on my Nikon D-610 with the Nikon MB-D14 Battery Power Pack / Grip, Nikon 85mm 1.8G lens, Nikon SB-800 Flash.

Think of this as insurance for the hundreds or thousands you invested in your camera equipment
I use this along with my Fotasy Quick Strap. It's not mandatory, but to me it's like having a 2nd parachute. As far as I can tell, the Fotasy is solid and reliable. But having this attached provides an extra psychological crutch if I'm wearing my camera all day and walking through hordes of people or over rough landscape.Notable features:► Strong materials. The rope is thin yet made of a strong material. The carbiner can hold many times the weight of a camera -– good if you ever have to make a fast move.► The carabiner takes time to put on and review because is small threaded. While you can few this as a negative, it's a positive making theft just a little more difficult.► Unobtrusive. It does the job without attracting attention.A good piece of insurance to get for the investment you make in your equipment

Great backup security
I use this strap as backup security on my large lenses. I often carry a camera with large lens on a shoulder strap and use the lens foot for a handle. The strap is secured to the lens foot with a 1/4" or 3/8" screw but these only go in about a 1/4" into the foot so they can loosen and fall out or break ( I have not had that happen yet). This devise can loop through the strap several times to keep the slack out and then attach to the foot and provide a secondary connection to the strap. The price for this device is well worth keeping the lens and camera from hitting the ground which would cost lots more.

Simple Idea, Great Execution, Lots Of Peace Of Mind
I purchased this to use with my Custom SLR Glide One Strap Camera Strap System with Black C-Loop - Gliding Camera Strap with Quick-Release Buckles to add some extra security just in case the main connector ever came loose from the tripod mount. Thankfully I've never had the mount come free but the added peace of mind is definitely worth it.My only complaint is that the tether strap sometimes gets tangled with the main should strap or my mounting plate. It's a small inconvenience that causes me a few moments of occasional grief. Depending on the strap you use this with it may not be an issue for you.If you're carrying several hundred or thousands of dollars of gear on around your neck or shoulders this is a no-brainer purchase.

Expensive for what it is
Ok. This is really extensive for what it is. I guess you could build the same exact thing from parts at the hardware store for around 2 dollars. We got ours from Amazon for around $8. With that being said its well worth the security you get when you combine this with a sling strap. We use this with the fotasy strap on a Nikon D610. You can read my review for the Fotasy strap which I find to be a great value. This should really be included and gives you a bunch of added security, knowing that if your Strap breaks you at least have this rope to save your camera.I would recommend buying if you cannot afford the time to build one yourself.

TOTALLY EFFECTIVE & AFFORABLE!
Good product, simple, totally effective. Using a Black Rapid Sport sling with a DLSR + 500 prime lens, the weight supported by the single std screw into the lens tripod foot, in principle is fine but a lot to loose if it should work/break loose for any reason (albeit rare). So felt the need for an added safety tether. The Black Rapid ‘Tether Kit’ is I’m sure well made but the kit mix and price is ridiculously expensive over kill. At £22.0 or more, as the only BR option, it includes a totally unnecessary drawstring bag of 'microfiber, with a dual compartment'-wow! The Joby Tether fore fills what is a very simple yet important task & at £7.0 is affordable. It’s lightweight, yet very strong. It seems to support a heavy DSLR+500 lens weight. I’ve no idea of its tensile strength, but it seems fine, given it should not in principle ever be needed and therefore is not to be repeatedly over-stressed to failure (hopefully!). As a camera & lighter lens tether it is certainly fine. Similar 'functioning' but highly-expensive competitors product, that's over marketed with trivial “feature rich” listings, I find very annoying, with their pricing apparently based on the value of the kit it's likely to be attached to, rather than the worth of the product. Thank goodness for example, keys cut for a house are not charged based on the value of the property.

Good idea, but can also become a nuisance
I bought this as an extra safety measure for my Joby camera strap ; the last thing I wanted was my camera coming unscrewed and dropping to the ground. It's good for piece of mind, but in use it can become a nuisance:- The karabiner only just about fits through the cord eyelet and I worry that repeated (re)fitting will wear the cord out, possibly causing it to fail just when you don't want it to!- When not attached to a camera strap the karabiner swings around like an annoying heavy pendulum, bashing against everything within range. So every time the strap is removed I also have to remove this, bringing me back to the first point above. My possible solution could be to hook the loose karabiner through an elastic band tethered next to the strap, so that it hangs closer to the camera.- One of the advantages of tripod-mounted camera straps is that the camera can pivot about the mounting point, and not get tangled with the strap. But with this on, I often found myself having to untwist the two. What with these, and the worry about the karabiner constantly banging against the rear camera screen, I think it will probably only get used when I'm on a longer shoot, or if I'm feeling a bit more paranoid. Very well made, but hopefully I'll never have to put it to the test.
What is there really to say about this? It's well made and strong, although the securing collar can be a bit stiff. Others have said that the collar works loose, so it'd be wise to periodically keep checking it for tightness or wrap some gaffer tape around it to secure it. I only own one of these and it's connected to my EOS 50d, battery grip and telephoto lens. The other end is connected to my Joby sling. The real test will be if the sling fails, which thankfully it hasn't yet so I can't say if this tether works or not. As the aforementioned camera and associated bits are pretty weighty, I didn't feel too comfortable placing all my faith in one tether, and because I own several Canon DSLR's, I didn't feel like paying nearly £8 a throw for a number of tethers that quite honestly I could make myself. So I made some pretty effective tethers utilising metal karabiners (available from good outdoor shops or on Amazon) and a strong nylon shoelaces (the circular cross section type). Basically that's all the Joby tether is! And for slightly more than the Joby tether cost, I made four. They may look a little Heath Robinson, but what the hell? Mine worked under albeit controlled, test conditions.

Good peace of mind when using sling type camera straps
This is a very simple tether strap, but could save a very expensive accident, especially when used with the newer sling type camera straps that fit to the tripod fitting on the camera base.Occasionally these fittings can come loose and the camera potentially can fall and damage it or the lens (or both), and so this is a final way to catch the camera.Fits easily to the strap using the metal loop which then slides easily along the strap to allow for unhindered movement of the camera when in use, and the other end locks around the normal camera strap loop.In use it's not noticeable and one of those items you hope you never actually get to test, but gives good peace of mind that an expensive accident can hopefully be avoided.

Love it!
Love it! Makes me feel sooooo much better and more at ease having expensive gear attached to my rapid sling strap (like a black rapid... Movo MP-SS4 Rapid Camera Sling Strap with Quick Release Clip and Vented Padded Neoprene Shoulder Strap ).If that fails and the camera comes away from the sling strap (which other users have reported but I thankfully haven't experienced, touch wood), I know that this tether will stop my equipment from falling.Great price, very strong and durable.I attach it to my lens through the tripod collar instead of to the camera, and then to the bottom of the sling strap, and feel safer doing this. I thought it might get in the way but I don't even notice it's there. Would definitely recommend it.
