It's about 6"x6" square and 1" thick. I didn't measure, but that's within a half inch on the side measurements, and a quarter inch of the thickness1. So, no, you won't be able to get a 4' strip from it. You can buy filter material that is not cut down so small already, so that you can make custom shapes/sizes. I don't know of any that come large enough to make a 4', but perhaps a place that sells to professional aquariums would carry stuff that big.
