Update 12/20
Awesome product . ( see update below ) much better then others that have a small lcd screen that ends up being useless . Plus with this one , you can transfer videos and pics effortlessly without removing the sd card and putting it in a phone or PC . Just launch the app - connect to your phone via its own Wifi hotspot and transfer the file you want , or all of them . Works great !Update 12/12 -Be aware that when your Dash Cam stops working -like mine has - the company WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU ! After lengthy back and forth emails with the seller - where they promised to remedy the problem and make things right ... in the end they said " sorry they could not replace the defective product and that I should return it to AMAZON ... even though they knew that I can not do this since the return window had closed for me !This seller and their promise of standing behind their product and warrantying its quality IS A SHAM !Update 12/20 - Seller finally made things right by sending out a replacement camera . This one seems to work fine . We will see how long it lasts . I have changed my original review from 1 star to 3 .

App not at all intuitive. App reads contact list? WHY?? SD card woes (fixed)
**Newest Update** May 2018Did a factory reset of my tablet, which lost the wifi password I had. Wrote to the contact people, they wrote back that to do a factory reset on the HaloCam, I needed to power cycle 9 times to reset the wifi to 12345678. This didn't work for me. What DID work was to look at the SD (or TF) card on my computer and specifically look at the .log files. There, in the log file, clear as day is the wifi password. Reinserted the TF card and viola, I didn't have to do a factory reset.↓↓↓ Older comments ↓↓↓Bought mid-October but didn't really use it until after Thanksgiving. Concerned about privacy from an Android App that wants access to my contact list for no apparent reason. So I purchased a cheapie tablet (and used an anonymous account) to run the app. App is not intuitive at all, but will try to help out the newbie set this up.Run the HaloCam Auto app while you are connected to the network as normal. Activate DVR tab at the bottom of the app. This will take you a screen that amongst other things shows your wifi state. You want to click on this and look for HaloCam-xxxxxx and connect to the HaloCam. It will want the password for the HaloCam (default is 12345678) if you ever change the wifi password, come back to this screen to enter the new password. You can then set the HaloCam up as you see fit (the More and Settings tab). I just left most things as default. A nice touch is you can have your speed and time as a watermark on the video. To format your SD (they say TF card) goto More>Settings>Storage. The Format button is for the SD (TF card). I have had a big problem with memory and this unit. I bought a Sandisk (Class 10) 128 Gig and it says it doesn't work. So then I tried other 32Gb - Monster and a generic (both Class 10) and neither worked. I just ordered a 64GB Samsung class 10 which is on their unofficial approved list. If this doesn't work, I'll drop to one star and dump the unit as its past the return window.UPDATE: I was able to get the HaloCam to format my Sandisk 128GB SD card. Its kind of technical, but I used GPARTED to create a new partition table on the SD card (Using GPT table). I then created a single NTFS volume of around 119 GB. Then when I connected, again the HaloCam complained about the card, but it formatted and I can see the free space on the SD card. I'll update this post to show how that worked for me. Bumped up a star to 3.Jan '18 Update: Moving up to a 4. Still don't like privacy issues (mentioned earlier) and would rate 5 star otherwise. The camera does what it should. I turned off lane departure warning. Its a nice feature if you are prone to daydreaming while driving, otherwise its just an annoyance. I have had no issues with the SD card after reformatting it with a GUID Partition Table (GPT).

Does not live up to expectations
This is my second dash cam after the first one from another brand burned out. When I bought it, they advertised 60fps at 1080p. They changed that spec with a recent firmware update so that is disappointing to not have a feature that was a factor in deciding to buy it.The video quality is poor, even on the forward camera. I can't read license plates from 30 feet away unless both vehicles are stationary with good light on it - the only chance to get a solid plate reading is if I pass the vehicle so the plate is within 20 feet or so of the camera. Everything looks very muddy, like they may be recording as "1080p" but really it is just upscaled from 720p or worse. There is no way to refocus the camera to try to improve the image quality. There are other annoyances too, such as the fact that front and rear cameras do not synchronize. So if you are hoping to find an incident and download based on the filename timestamp, you might be missing the event on one of the cameras. It also makes it hard to synchronize when splicing to a video with mixed front/rear view. Before the update, front and rear had much different frame rates so time synchro was near impossible. With the latest firmware, they seem to be the same framerate, but it is an oddball 29.84 fps instead of 29.97 drop-frame or straight 30fps.There seems to be no internal clock setting - it only gets it from the phone when you connect, so it doesn't adjust for daylight savings time on the time stamp. Speaking of the time stamp, if you want to have your date/time and speed info in the watermark, then it also shows the stupid HaloCam logo in the corner. The only way to get rid of the watermark embedded in the video is to entirely turn off watermark.I bought the GPS piece as well, but for some reason it didn't get recognized by the camera until the most recent firmware update, and even now I'm not sure what it does. It doesn't seem to show directional bearing on the watermark and doesn't seem to have anything to indicate geo position related to the video when you are reviewing through the app. If you want something that shows travel path, choose a different brand with a better app.I thought the WiFi would be a cool feature, but really it is so slow to navigate through the videos and preview (even with the "fluency" setting selected) that I usually just end up popping out the card and loading it on a computer anyway.Buying based on these specs and features proved to be a failure as none of them work as expected. About the only thing that worked nicely was having a USB power source before I decided to get the OBD connection. I didn't want some big DC plug hanging off my dash and my USB ports are concealed in my truck. Using the OBD power made that a moot point. The rear camera has some sort of strange mount that doesn't allow me to attach upside-down to the ceiling inside the cab, so it is just kind of wedged in the headliner and hoping it doesn't bounce out. It has stayed there so far. I didn't want to mount it externally since that leaves potential rust points and the camera would always get road grime on the lens.A minor gripe is the camera mount doesn't completely lock it in so a slight bump while ejecting or inserting the card will cause it to move out of alignment. Once aligned, it is solid enough to stay in place for normal driving.I'm still trying to find the perfect camera with front/rear video and easy operation, but at this point I'd settle for even decent.
