A great bench grinder setup with quality components and good accessories
My old, 53 year old, bench grinder finall gave up the ghost. What a pain! I had to have a replacement, so I started researching what's available on Amazon. For my needs, and for my bucks, this was the best grinder for me. I have other Wen tools, and they have served me well. I decided to go with the name I know, and I'm glad I did. This is a complete setup with all the vital accessories. It's a bit noisy, but the grinding wheels that came with it do everything I need. I like the variable speed and the smoothness when it is running. Great deal!

Down on power, works well with very light passes.
So purchased this to help keep my riding mower's three blades sharp. I purchased this with the WEN 4288 Cast Iron Bench Grinder Pedestal Stand with Water Pot and finally got around to unpacking them and putting it together today. Well, assembly was very easy, the stand took about 3 minutes (it's 4 set screws and one Philips screw) and it includes the hardware to mount the grinder as well. The grinder took a little bit longer to assemble, however it was pretty easy. Put the two safety guards on, the tool rests and the spark guard. That with mounting it on the stand took about ten minutes. The switch was in the "on" position after unpacking (the switch has a little dot on one side and that side depressed is on) so after plugging it in (on), that was a disappointment but not a concern. It powered up to full speed in about 5-6 seconds, and ran fairly smooth for about 3 min under no load before I turned it off. The light that is mounted on it is a great feature and one feature that I really like. On to the task at hand - sharpening the mower blades. Well, it worked. Worked much better than the pneumatic die grinder and file I had been using. However it was a under powered when more than gentle pressure was applied, and would bog down very quickly once the mower blade would towards the end and not rest on the tool rest fully supported. The amount of power is the reason for the single star docking, I wish it had more. That being said - for what I paid for it, the stand and the ease of use, it's still a solid little worker for the likely 4-5 times a year that I'll be using this thing. Would I recommend it - sure for my use mentioned above, would I buy it again if this one fails, no. I'd buy something with more power. The pictures are the boxes, the unit installed on the stand, the unit assembled on the stand.

Good quality at the price point
Not a Bad bench grinder for the money, I love the variable speed control, sometimes I don't need full blast speed, and it is nice to be able to slow it down.

Reliable
I have had other grinders. It does everything I want it to do. I put on a bristle wheel also.

Bought for my husband and he likes it. Machine is on the smaller side but still spins wire brushes and rock good

Quiet, cost-effective and functional
I’m a DIYer and woodworker and this Wen grinder fits my needs perfectly. Assembly was pretty easy, although I found aligning and leveling the tool supports to be challenging. I’ve already sharpened chisels and kitchen knives and am very pleased with the ease of effort and the outcome. Yes, the light wiggles around while operating the grinder but I’ll find a workaround to make it stationary. So far, I’m very happy with the value received for the price paid. Only time will tell about its longevity and durability.

Don't reverse left and right
Caution: When you install the left and right tool rests, make sure there's only a small gap between the tool rest and the wheel, as shown in the photo. I made the mistake of reversing the left and right mounting brackets for the two tool rests, and they seemed to install correctly, except there was a 3/4" gap between the edge of the rest and the wheel. To a novice, this potentially hazardous configuration might seem acceptable. I reversed the brackets, left to right, and they installed properly as in the photo. (Note: When installed correctly, the edge of the tool rest will also be approximately in line with the center of the wheel, top to bottom). A similar left-or-right confusion exists with the mounting of the two visors. WEN, if you're listening, these issues could be mitigated by having a prominent L or R on each of the mounting brackets (and by having better installation instructions). Overall, this is an acceptable machine for the price. It runs smoothly and quietly with plenty of power for a 6" bench grinder. It's heavy enough to sit on the bench without clamping it down, for my work. I'm thankful that WEN makes a variable speed bench grinder, since the "standard" 3600 rpm grinders are way too fast for some of my work.

not good value
This bench grinder I used once and the motor caught fire. To dangerous to use now and just realised that I cannot return n this. A very short gaurantee, thought we were entitled to 12 months for electrical goods?

EXCELENTE PRODUCTO
ME GUSTO EL PRODUCTO SOLO QUE HACE UN ZUMBIDO CUANDO BAJA LA VELOCIDAD PERO AL SUBIRLA AL MÁXIMO DESAPARECE, CREO QUE ES POR EL MISMO POTENCIOMETRO QUE ES EL AJUSTE DE VELOCIDAD VARIABLE, PERO NADA QUE AFECTE EL FUNCIONAMIENTO, Y DENTRO DE TODO ESTO A LA VEZ ES SILENCIOSO Y MUY BONITO, ESTOY SATISFECHO! LA VERDAD ME ENCANTO Y ESTETICAMENTE LE DOY UN 10! SOLO EN RUIDO LE PUSE 4 ESTRELLAS POR ESE PEQUEÑÑO ZUMBIDO PERO ES DE BAJO RUIDO!
