Coffee for Coffee Lovers! I've bought Sumatra coffee since 1999. It's rich and dark. I've made it in coffeemakers, French presses, and pour overs for flavor and strength control (other coffees quite simply, disappoint!). This recent order arrived and I opened it up: the beans are shiny and freshly roasted, then I made a cup (2:30 p.m.) I may get to bed late tonight, but this is a treat that is worth it. I cant justify "buying" Ccoffee from a shop - it's just too expensive to indulge in; I make my own to haul to work in my thermos and have for years. This TASTES like "Coffee shop coffee" and it's priced affordably.

Flavor is pretty good. Price is good. Not really dark roast.

I really do like these coffee beans. The coffee is flavorful and delish! They are a very good value. I have it on Subscribe and Save which helps to reduce the price. I mix chicory (2-1 - coffee to chickory) in with the ground coffee. Frontier Natural Products Organic Roasted Chicory Root Granules is available on Amazon. This dark roast coffee is low in acid and the chicory adds a smooth taste and robustness without extra calories. It has a rich chocolatey undertone. Chicory is also good for you. According to Web M.D. " Chicory is a plant. Its roots and dried, above-ground parts are used to make medicine. Chicory is used for loss of appetite, upset stomach, constipation, liver and gallbladder disorders, cancer, and rapid heartbeat. It is also used as a “tonic,” to increase urine production, to protect the liver, and to balance the stimulant effect of coffee". Okay everybody, this is my absolute favorite coffee. For the price, this is probably the most luxurious coffee that you can get. It is dark and rich, smells amazing, and tastes very smooth. There is absolutely zero bitterness. My only complaint is with the 5lb packaging. It is hard to open, and isn't resealable. This is a good thing if you are shipping coffee all over the world, but the fact that it isn't resealable makes it a pain in the butt if you are living out of a foot locker in Afghanistan and trying to keep 5 lbs of coffee fresh. The fact that this stuff smells so amazing in my french press and anybody that walks by is trying to score some from me makes it not last as long so it hasn't been too much of a worry. Open with a knife, roll down the top, and gorilla tape shut and all is good in the world. This coffee is life changing!

Much better than I expected. Yum very smooth taste

I had high hopes for this coffee. In the past I have looked at the Coffee Bean Direct site and the reviews for the Sumatra Mandheling are excellent. The company sells the beans in 1lb, 2.5lb and 5lb bags, and the 2.5lb bag is $32.95 + $3.00 shipping. I saw the beans priced Amazon at $29.95 for 3lb. I have Prime so no shipping and I decided to give them a try. The bags are packaged well but the roast date on the bag is June 19 (I received them August 10). I am not a coffee snob but I have decent equipment and I brewed the first pot at 200 degrees, medium grind, 7 tbs for 40oz of water. During the brewing process there was almost no noticeable coffee aroma in the kitchen. I always use a clear glass mug when I try a new coffee so I can see the color and this coffee was nice and dark but there was almost no flavor. I am very disappointed and will not buy this again. I will probably get some cheap half decent beans and mix them with this coffee to use it up.

A very good Sumatran coffee at a relatively good price.
