Nomi Now!
How are there any of these left after three page write up in the NYT (though offensively comparing to Jobriath, and noting Joey Arias only as a fellow Bowie backup singer)? If you have not watched the 2004 documentary Nomi Song and if you ever have a chance to see Joey Arias live, do it. I have always loved Klaus and should have grabbed more than the two I bought of this limited edition. The one I'm playing is gorgeous and sounds exactly like it should. Just a heads up, that video review is truly beautiful, but those are colored lights. It's a clear vinyl with beautiful grey Cabaret Smoke through it - not wine-colored "Cabernet" Smoke. Hopefully, this release is timed to stir up some publicity because the long-awaited biopic starring Alan Cumming is finally happening ..?

Undeniable singular talent, questionable production behind him
No doubt Klaus Nomi was an unique talent, and here is an example. Good album but the production just comes across too much like a comedy album from the early 80s, reminds me of Rocky Horror or Saturday Night Live type music. Was Klaus messing and mocking convention? Probably to some extent, but maybe he didn't know where to take it. It's not like this was gonna be a mainstream rock record. Compare to Talking Heads, or Blondie, or The B52's? Nomi did not even try to inject some of the underground dance sound which he had to be very familiar. The record does sound very campy, but the music didn't have to be so bland and silly, Nomi was absurd in and of himself.

Klaus Nomi
Even though his life was cut too short, the music of Klaus Nomi will live forever. If you are interested in hearing a combination of rock, pop and opera, then you will want to buy this CD. Although Klaus Nomi is one of the few singers that I will listen to who is not from Brazil (as he is originally from Germany), I believe that Klaus Nomi is a pure genius when it comes to making music that can blend three elements of music into one creative style that [he] can call his own. I first heard a sample of his music on YouTube, and ever since, I have been in love with this creative music style. I was glad to know that the song "Total Eclipse," which I had heard on YouTube, was featured on this album. With this knowledge, and my love for Klaus Nomi's music, I quickly purchased this CD. To my further delight, I realized that this music was infectious, as I could not stop listening to it. This is one CD that I know I would recommend to anyone who enjoys listening to interesting blends of rock, pop, and opera.

One and Only Nomi
My first impression of Klaus Nomi was when someone randomly sent me the music video of "Lightening Strikes." They gave me no heads up, so when Klaus appeared in the video with his triangular tuxedo, white face, and amazing countertenor abilities, I stared at it like I was watching an alien (which could be argued that I was). I immediately watched it again, and found myself smiling. From then on, I just couldn't get enough of this guy and his fascinating voice and stage persona. He was and is one of a kind and by the amount of time I spent watching him on YouTube, I knew I had to buy this CD. It was one of the best investments I've ever made in a CD, and coupled with the follow up album "Simple Man," it was a great collection. Strange, yes. Dated, a little. Showcasing a true and tragically short lived talent? Definitely! The CD was shipped on time and arrived in perfect shape. I am very happy with this purchase!

This is Really Good
Very Enjoyable - I thought I would be cringing through camp, but that was just my own incorrect expectation. The songs are of the time they were made and well done. The performance by Klaus Nomi is incredible. Upon hearing this album, I realize a couple of these songs somehow penetrated my consciousness when they were new and I was a little kid in suburban Denver, and I can also hear how it influenced music today - so I think that demonstrates what a good album this is. I have been listening to this a LOT.

Gorgeous
I have long wanted a copy of Nomi's first album on vinyl and I am very happy I waited for this edition. The printing on the outer and inner sleeve are both very beautiful. As for the record itself, the sound quality is excellent and the "cabaret smoke" coloration is simply charming.

Amazing repressing
Seeing how difficult it is to get a nice, scratch-free original record, this stunning (overused word but in this case, appropriate) repressing sounds great and looks very cool. The record itself is tight inside it's sleeve, but don't let that discourage you, just be careful.

No More
This is an interesting and enjoyable CD for a collector. Nomi's work retains a freshness within the constraints of 80s technology and style- although it towers above many well regarded experimental works of this period as regards polish and a more sophisticated blend of keyboard sound and vocals than many during this time frame. His startling use of image, and his ideas have carried into the work of various performers of the present day, and the vocal niche he carved out for himself remains an influence in popular culture more recognisable than the name of the man himself. The recording has a decent 'clean' feel and the compression isn't too obvious for my little DVD player and TV speakers. Sadly I have not any super dooper speakers to play this through, but an awful lot of music is now processed to sound reasonable played on a phone or similar- and this holds up pretty well.I noted that the majority of the tracks were very 'pop' based, those more experimental retained structure and melody- I think Nomi and those around him may have restrained some of the limits of the music given the pitch and novelty of Nomi's vocal style. His regular singing voice is fine; nondescript, pleasant: his Germanic accent providing the contrast much in the way of Sousxie Sioux although musically there would be very little comparison other than the 'flatness ' of tone that was pretty popular at the time (Similarly think of Oakey or Numan, Kraftwerk or Devo). This album is somewhat 'experimental lite'- that said, it wont clear rooms at a party if you play it- you could dance to it; you could listen to it- it is not a classic, but it might boost your ponce credentials without denting your ears at all. it is a nice guide signposting the influence of a performer whose time was cut tragically short, and who had a great deal of talent and drive.

Dada meets Bergman, add a tough of Farinelli, and wrap it up in Brecht.... you have Klaus Nomi.
An artist whose magic worls still. His power, talent, and art are infectious. Taken from us too soon, once you discover Klaus Noni, you May, like me, become obsessed. The beauty, and originality of his work still stands, so many years after his tragic passing to that great stage beyond. It is then that you realise, this is sophisticated art. I will admit, I’ve smiled, laughed, and cried in equal measure at his work. This album is a great introduction to a highly influential artist.

He came from outer space...
The debut album by the one and only Klaus Nomi... Not to everyone's tastes... I have shown him to a few friends and some love him, some find him weird (their initial response was to laugh) some just can't stand him... I for one love Klaus a truly unique artist, one with a incredible vocal range and presence you feel just by listening to him... The only problem is he didn't get the chance to make more albums... If you like people/things that are different give Klaus ago... I've been a fan for 8 years... And will be for a thousand more...

Unique and brilliant
An amazing album by a brilliant and unique artist, one you will never see the like of today. Whether he is performing opera such as Purcell's "The Cold Song" or insanely catchy 80's pop such as "Total Eclipse", Klaus' voice is a joy to listen to. Sadly he only made two albums but both are wonderful additions to any person with a modicum of taste's collection.
