When you first receive it ensure to make the case fully charge. After which you can simply leave it in the case to charge. It make take a bit longer to charge in the case. By leaving it in the case it helps prevent phone scratches. I use mine to charge my phone while have a second case so while the case charge I keep using the phone as I have to use my phone 24/7
