Sennheiser MKE 2 Elements - Action Mic for The GoPro HERO4

Q: What’s better than GoPro footage? A: GoPro footage with pro-grade sound!This mic adds portable sound recorder capabilities to my HERO4, leaving my DSLR uncluttered and untethered. Captures great sound without putting a lavalier mic in the frame. Yes, it is expensive, but compared to a dedicated portable recorder the sound quality is on par, the size is roughly the same, and for half the price.When I record videos I usually use my DSLR as my primary shot and setup the HERO4 as a secondary shot to capture secondary footage. Works great for a close up of a detail or a wide-angle shot of a subject. Often, I’m able to fit both cameras on my tripod, DSLR on the head and HERO4 attached with a GorillaPod. The setup is easy to move and the relationship between the shots stays the same when repositioned.I primarily do videos where the subject is talking to the camera vblog style, so capturing useable audio is important. I’ve had somewhat success with utilizing the build-in microphone in my DSLR, but the limited capabilities and occasional handling noise, when I operate the camera, had me searching for alternatives. Friends have lent me pocket recorders and wired lavalier mics to experiment with. Both have yielded mixed results. Pocket recorders is another device I have to carry, handle, charge, prep and attend to. Additionally, the recorder I borrowed was plagued with clock drift, causing me synch headaches in post. Plugging a wired lavalier mic in to my DSLR, made me really nervous about tethering subjects to my expensive DSLR, the danger of subjects accidentally pulling on my setup had me uneasy. In addition, as I learned the hard way, lavalier mics have to be carefully positioned to get the right sound, avoiding handling noise and rubbing on clothes. My HERO4 is with me anyways, so it seemed logical to use it to capture sound.Bonus:For fun, I did a quick comparison between my iPhone7 on a selfie-stick and my HERO4 w. the Sennheiser mic on a selfie stick. If you do vlog videos on the go, this should be your rig. No handling noise, no wind noise, just clear crisp audio.Also, my friend who does a lot of wedding videography got super excited about the mic, when I showed it to him. As the mic will allow him to get good sound from the GoPro he always positions near the altar, adding another source for the critically important “I do”.Yes, the thing is waterproof, but people can’t speak under water. I’m taking the waterproofness as Sennheiser’s determination to deliver an above-and-beyond product, rather than core functionality. Though, it is pretty nice!

The media could not be loaded.  It was not compatible with my Hero 7 black. The port is too short for this newer model which is bulky on the sides. Was unable to test. Not sure if this would even have been better than the built-in mic using frame anyways.

I am an active YouTuber and have 2 Hero 4 silvers that I use for fishing and hunting videos. This little mic kit outperforms my Rode MicroPro with a dead cat on it in wind! it does not require and external battery, and maintains most of the GoPro's water proof-ness down to 3'! I'm buying another one for the other cam now. It does not seem to have a large impact on battery run time either. It fits a little tight in the Go-Pro case but I am VERY Impressed with the performance from this little mic. I'll be doing a review on it and you can see the footage in action on my channel. Pros: Durable and waterproof. I've used it underwater and its excellent!Cons: Needs additional wind protection for speeds above 80km/h; it's pretty expensive.

By far and still the only pro quality audio for action cams that is actually water proof. We bought several more of the hero 4's in a wake of the new hero 6's due to this mic. we can dunk our setups on the rivers and film underwater and get interviews all in the same clips. they are small enough to carry in your pocket without a huge camera bag and buffer the wind so well it is astonishing. We own 4 of these setups now and may buy a few more.

This product is really disappointing. I ordered with the intention of adding better audio to our travel vlogs. While the audio has been greatly improved, but product design is flawed. The white seal between the Sennheiser case and the GoPro case gets pinched every time you close it. This leaves a gap on one side that makes me nervous. I don't want to ruin my GoPro, nor do I want the seal to wear out prematurely. This is supposed to be waterproof. When I emailed Sennheiser photos of my dilemma, they said that the seal did not look right. It has a two year warranty, but instead I emailed Amazon for a replacement. The replacement just came and it's also got the same issue. I'm going to be sending both of them back.

Used this for the first time and easily recorded conversation on my sailboat without wind noise. It also captured dolphins clicking when I put my camera underwater to film them under the boat.

Compact and water resistant. Mounts on camera with greatly improved sound quality recorded with video. No need to use software to sync audio to video. Couldn't be easier.

Mejora significativamente la calidad de audio en tu go pro sin duda! Buenos materiales, pero el diseño no es lo mejor para poder usar otras funciones en tu cámara, por ejemplo, la pantalla táctil queda sin acceso, si quieres transferir tus archivos necesitas desmontar el micrófono y retirar la conexión, la cual se ve muy delicada y frágil. Todo lo demás en verdad supera las expectativas. Muy buena opción a muy buen precio.

I own a GoPro Hero 4 and love the video part of the camera but always disappointed with the Audio Quality. Like every DSLR and Video Cam out there, the internal microphones on these products are always poor. Then I hear about this new product from Sennheiser, MKE 2 elements. Of course I purchased the unit since audio is important to me and it was worth every penny spent, My GoPro became alive with incredible sound quality.I am a runner, and always run with friends, we always like to watch the video when we are done running and always had problems hearing the audio part, ** NOT ANYMORE**I also teach guitar to young students on a part time basis and would record the string movements of the guitar when teaching young children. With the MKE 2 Elements, all the notes, string movements, chord movements are all heard in excellent Audio Quality. Best investment I have made..** Thank You Sennheiser**

A great addition to the GoPro Hero 4!One of the issues I had creating videos is the sound because of the protective case for the GoPro, this mic eliminates that problem!The only issue I had was with the windscreen. After removing it, it had a tough time staying attached when moving around. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars.

I decided to purchase this product after seeing the videos on Sennheiser.com where there was a comparison between the Internal Microphone and the Sennheiser MKE 2 Elements add on.I use my Go Pro Hero 4 for many applications, attaching it to my Mountain Bicycle, lending it to my daughter when she is hiking and also the best application for this product would be my music. I am a guitarist and play in a band, the sound quality using the Sennheiser MKE Elements can not be compared to any internal microphone. When we do gig and use the Go-Pro on stage with the Sennheiser Mic and then listen to recording the next day, all we can say is WOW, day and night. I love this product !!!

I can not begin to express how vast the improvement in recorded sound is with this external Sennheiser mic. The improvement is so noteworthy that this upgrade makes the camera feel like a whole new piece of equipment.First off, like all Sennheiser equipment, this mic looks and feels, extremely well built. There is no doubt that it is an additional piece of hardware that has been added to the GoPro Hero4 but it just looks like it is OEM.As for performance, it generates really clear and vibrant sonic response. There is no comparison between the sound stage provided by this mic versus the integrated camera mic. The sound track for your videos are much more present and in the foreground, as opposed to what can sometimes feel like a background or distant soundtrack. I found both dialogue as well as naturally occurring sounds during the filming of various activities, to be handled equally as well. That having been said however, despite no detected distortion, I did find on more than a few occasions, that there is a slight humming sound picked up by (or generated by) the camera. I can not isolate the source but it is not even bad and it certainly does not take away from the increased audio benefits.This mic is for the GoPro Hero4 camera - ONLY. If you have a GroPro Hero5, the mic will mount to the camera body (even with housing in place) but the audio connection itself, is of a totally different shape and size and therefore, this mic is for the GroPro Hero4 - exclusively.Finally, I decided to take on GroPRO's claim that this mic is capable of underwater recording. I nervously dipped the camera (with housing) and the mic with it's fluffy sheath into our swimming pool to film the robot vacuum running around the pool. I stuck to the 1ft deep limit as established by the Sennheiser documentation and it picked up the vaccum's pulsating rythyms with excellent results.Once removed, the protective fluffy sheath was squeezed to take out the excess water, allowed to dry and then it was put back in place. The mic cover also does a fantastic job of eliminating harsh wind noise that many microphones suffer from as well as provide really good dust protection for the mic.This mic is a sizeable investent but the return on that invesent is impossible to ignore or deny.
