I want to use this device to convert my Amazon Fire TV's optical output to a 6 channel, 5.1 digital output. Can I do this w/o a computer?

Is the microphone input stereo or mono?

Mine shows 2 inputs: left and right. I don't use mine for that purpose. I am assuming if you want stereo, you'll need 2 microphones.

can you update for it to work with windows 10 ?

Hi there. This works out of the box with Windows 10 (I'm running it on Windows 10 now).

Is this CPU friendly or distorts easily?

Seems to work just fine for me. No distortion and no apparent impact to CPU overhead. Works on Windows 8.1 just fine. Basic functionality works even without the driver. The driver adds the extras like the 7.1 surround.
