Smaller than we thought it would be.
Overall it is a good ice maker. It makes the half moon shape cubes and makes them pretty fast. We were only disappointed in the size of the machine as it seems smaller than our old one. We also have had problems with ice forming around the door area and have tried to adjust it to fix it but so far no luck. Overall we still love it and use lots of ice.

Great Ice Maker
This is a great ice maker. For the last 10 years I had one of the clear cube ice makers. This made beautiful looking ice that I enjoyed a great deal, but was a mighty pain to operate. Having "fresh ice" required below freezing temperature, constant melting and constant running to replace melting ice. It was disturbingly noisy, needed more water than my dishwasher and washing machine combined, required a free flowing drain to function, and had serious cleanliness issues. I became proficient in plumbing and maintenance.... I took it apart several times and designed my own drainage system when the plumber's failed. In comes the U-line and I could not be happier. The crescent cubes are fine and cool my drinks just the same. The machine is as quiet as our kitchen refrigerator with ice maker, but produces 4-5 times the ice. The U-line fills up the 12 pound ice container overnight and stops running when full. It makes expected and brief noises that, when placed in a reasonable location for an appliance do not interrupt conversation or TV watching. The U-line is very solidly in America, with few moving parts, no drain needed, and looks to require as little maintenance as your refrigerator ice maker. I suspect it will need the occasional manual defrost... this will be as simple as pushing the "off" button, throwing out the ice in the reservoir and keeping the door open for a few hours. I think I can manage that. If you absolutely need decorative ice cubes or enjoy tedious maintenance there are better choices. For the rest of us the U-line is a great home or small office solution for a price that is not exorbitant. I will write a follow up if there are any surprises.

Don't waste your money.
I bought this ice maker because it had the best reviews out of all the ice makers that would fit in the spot I had for it.First, the water solenoid valve is in the front of the unit behind the vent panel leaving you to go buy a 2 foot flexible hose to run out the back so you can connect the water line.Second, and way worse, the outlet side of the water solenoid hose leaked from the factory. This is unacceptable for any new appliance, but particularly for one that costs over $1000. I fixed it with silicon, but it is beyond me how this can be leaking out of the factory in the first place. The much cheaper wytner this one is replacing had the same issue. This is not a connection that is touched during installation.Third, the dial to set the temp was hanging loose inside the unit instead of being fastened behind the hole with the indicator sticker on it. I supplied my own screws to attach this where it belongs. If I could give zero stars, I would. When I can buy the same sized ice maker for $250 and go for the $1000 unit because it has way better reviews, my standards are a bit high and factory defects are not acceptable when a very simple quality control check would have caught both factory errors. I also don't expect to have to run my own flex hose through the middle of the components.Stay away and buy the cheaper one since you're getting the same crappy quality anyway.

Replaces the original in a house built in 1985
We bought this to replace the same ice maker original to the house built in 1985. There are not many ice makers this size and it fits perfectly under the counter with no expensive alterations. We looked far and wide for this as we did not want to have to redo the bar. Very satisfied. The only knock I have on this is the magnetic closure is a little weak. We have to double check that it is closed or clumping and build up of ice occurs.

The first one I ordered just didn't work. I even had a plumber over here. Anyway the 2nd one worked and makes a ton of ice!!!

worst expierence ever with Amazon
I bought this from Amazon expecting my usual satisfaction. Amazon bought it from Evie who bought it from Designer Appliances who then bought it from u line. To say it is a piece of crap would be insulting crap. Please go out and buy a refrigerator that serves ice through the door for the same money or even less. You will be getting a better ice maker and a better product. The ice become a solid ice cube and you either have to "hack" some ice loose with a knife or you must empty the 35 lbs of ice in the sink and start over. As we are in our 70's this is not easily accomplished The machine is loud and since it backc up to our bedroom you must not empty it at night. The most disappointing problem in this purchase is the fact that there is no return policy with this product. I called all four companies and the most bewildering answer was from Designer Appliances who said " you might as well use it for a boat anchor" because we have a no return policy.I offered to Amazon to buy a more expensive ice maker but to no avail as they did not take back articles just because the customer doesn't like them especially when it is through a 3rd seller. This is a 929$ ripoff and is not worth 99$. Under no reason should anyone ever buy another one of these "junker". I will be going to Overstock and Wal-mart online much more in the future. Unhappy and disgusted!

Awesome icemaker
I replaced my old uline ice maker that was 20 years old with this new one. I hooked it up myself and I am a woman. Lol. I love this icemaker. If you want to turn it off when it's full, you just lift the lever arm and the ice stays frozen until you are ready for it to make more ice. This icemaker is awesome!
