SMOOTHERPRO Solid Brass Bolt Action Pen, Compatible with Pilot G2 Refill

Cant really go wrong with solid brass. This thing is hefty and sturdy. Knurling and cutouts are good for keeping grip. Bolt action is easy to use, nice and smooth. This is one of my favorite pens and pricing is very reasonable compared to the ones costing 2-3x more. Ink of course is very smooth as they are energel refills. Would also make a great gift to friend who is a pen fanatic as it comes in a good box. Smootherpro is my go to brand for budget, but high quality feeling pens. I have several othere styles as well and all have been good. **be careful handing to other people to use, they tend to drop it not fully expecting the weight if this big boy.**

I've been using metal barrel Sharpie S-gel for work, because I've found it the most reliable out of the most common pens. In my line of work, having a reliable pen is critical. That being said, even the metal barrel Sharpie pens have a plastic tip and the metal puts strain on the plastic over time and the tip loves to snap off at the worst possible time. This pen is solid, no chance that it breaks in my uniform pants. I have come to rely on S-gel ink as it dries very fast compared to the G2. I did some experimenting when it came in today, and the Sharpie S-gel pen ink cartridges fit in the pen, but you have to shave about a mm or two from the rear of the cartridge to get it to function. As far as value is concerned, the pen costs about what I'd expect to pay for a solid brass pen. It feels good in the hand. The weight isn't *too* heavy, but enough to feel that it's there when it's in my pocket. The original ink resembled a G2 refill, and with previous bad experiences, I didn't chance it, just trimmed am S-gel cartridge to fit. The bolt action is smooth and feels like it's going to preform great. As far as performance goes, the action on the pen functions exactly like I was wanting. It doesn't take too much pressure to actuate, and the bolt is snappy. Refilling is as simple as it gets. The tip and half of the barrel twist off, and you slide the old cartridge out, and your refill of choice back in. Reassemble the pen, and it's good to go. All in all, I'm very happy. Solid brass pen, snappy action, can take my favorite ink (with minor modification), and it doesn't cost a fortune.

Well-Made, Heavy, and Built to Last This is a seriously well-made pen. It has a great weight to it, feels solid in the hand, and definitely has that quality feel you expect from a solid brass pen. It’s also surprisingly fidget-friendly — I find myself constantly playing with it while thinking or working. My only real complaint is the finish. I ordered the Black solid brass version. After several months of constant daily use, the finish is gone! That said, I’ve used this pen a lot, so I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a dealbreaker. The pen itself still feels just as solid and well-built as when I got it. I've replaced the ink cartridge once already with the G2 gel. Overall, if you want a heavy, quality pen that feels great to use and doubles as a pretty satisfying fidget toy, I’d definitely recommend it.

Just received the black brass version this morning. Shipping was quick. But that’s just condiments. Let’s get to the meat and potatoes. •My pen did come with a black box and a foam cutout. Simple, but kept it safe. •Aesthetically pleasing. Gives off some steampunk-ish vibes. •Has a noticeable weight. It’s not overwhelming, but you definitely know you’re not holding a Bic. It’s a direct result of the pen being solidly built. •The g-2 insert is a g-2 insert. But, after reading another review, I did find that sharpie S-gel inserts work as well. You will need to trim roughly 1/16-1/8 off the end of the cartridge to get the mechanism to work smoothly. Sharp scissors or a utility knife works. Takes less than 15 seconds. But use your head if you opt for the knife. •my first bolt pen so I don’t really have a point of reference. The action is smooth. No rough spots with either the g2 or the S-gel. •The clip also seems sturdy, anchored to the pen on two risers with torx screws. It is a tight clip. If you try to force the clip on to thicker materials, it will cause problems. It’s not built for that. I read a review where the clip broke from Bob the buyer forcing it to clip on their jeans pocket. It’s not only going to damage your jeans, it’s also likely to stress the risers/screws, as Bob found out when his clip broke. Don’t be like Bob. If you’re determined to clip it to your pants pocket, simply take what appears to be a t-6 screwdriver and loosen the screws a little. That should allow the play needed. I say that with a grain of caution. Any tampering with the screws just increases the chances of them working themselves out and you suddenly finding yourself without your new pen. Finally a negative, and a mild one at that. •For me, the barrel is a tad thin where you grip it to write. I don’t have gigantor hands, but they are a little bigger that average. Combined with the weight, I could see some hand fatigue coming into play with extended writing sessions All in all, you won’t regret the purchase. The only reason I put 4 stars is because of the barrel and my hands, not because of a defect with the product. If I’d been able to I would have marked it 4.5.

Incredible! This pen is awesome! I use G2 refills in it. It is heavy and took me a few days to get used to the weight. Clients that use my pen ALWAYS comment the moment it is in their hand and the LOVE it! When I need to use a regular pen, I notice my handwriting is so much better due to using a heavy pen regularly. I've bought these as gifts for my sons and they love it too! The bolt action is just fun!

It's a really nice pen with a nice high quality feel and weight to it. My only issue is that after about 4 days of use (lots of fidgeting) the action got super rough and scratchy. Normally i would just take the pen apart clean it out, but they put thread lock on the button and the back threads of the pen. The only way i was able to get the thread lock to give was by using soft grip pliers. with some Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol and compressed air I was then able to clean it out and now the action is butter smooth which is the reason I'm still giving this a 5 star review. The pen will probably last decades so i didn't really mind troubleshooting the issue myself. I just wish they wouldn't put threadlock on by default

I would give it 3.5 if I could. The pen is solid. Feels nice. Fits my hand well. The weight of it is subjective but I like it. For some it is a blessing. When held a certain way, its weight drives the pen into the paper and reduces the amount of force needed to write. For others it is detrimental. If you don't naturally write with the pen more upright, then you have to swing around more of this weight while pressing down. Two faults: The bolt action lever knob has a semi-sharp edge on it. After using it a couple dozen times throughout my day it's aggravating my thumb. Their included ink cartridge misses intermittently, failing to deposit ink. The secret sauce of ballpoint pens lies in the near perfection of the tip and ball assembly. This is, believe it or not, extraordinarily difficult technology to master. China only recently became able to do this with entirely locally sourced equipment in 2017 - and it shows. Good work otherwise, and kudos to them for the rest of the pen. The ink issue is easily solved by buying a first-party G2 refill for a dollar, and I could probably smooth out the lever with a file if I needed to. For now I am happy enough that I am willing to give them a bit more money trying out one of their click pens.

I absolutely LOVE this pen! I haven’t had a special pen in a while and this one is a GEM! Heavyweight and balanced and it writes so well. My cursive isn’t the best with this pen in my hand the cursive is smooth and fluid! And bonus point it looks sooo cool!

I bought the copper plated black pen. Feels solid, and is a bit heavier than a standard pen. If you expect an expensive pen to feel different, then this is what you want. Bolt action is smooth. Clip is very tight so it won't fall out by accident. Writes scratchy at first, but the tip breaks in quickly and now it writes very smooth. It is very well balanced - it will stand on the flat end with no difficulty. Assembly is well crafted, with a rubber gasket as well.

Heavy, which is what I wanted. A bit scratchy. I would have like a smoother writting but I guess it's acceptable for the heaviness.

Bought for a co-worker, and he loves the sliding mechanism.

I like a heavier pen and this one has some weight to it. I also like the mechanism for bringing the pen out and back in.
