Moshe Feldenkrais is a fantastic author. Yes his writing style is a bit pedantic or intellectual, but if you really pay attention, his technique is pure emotion, it's pure feltness, it's a purely creative approach to self-discovery and growth.His techniques have played a massive role in my development outside the more boring, and creatively suffocating means of more mainstream self-development. If you're an artist of any kind, then his content will resonate with you deeply. If you're more logical, then it probably won't make sense to you. Ideally you want both, but people tend to be one or the other.His approach is very much related to hypnosis, meditation, spirituality and body work. It's about exploring the relationship between movements in the body and thoughts in the mind as a means to creatively induce change. It's very much related to the idea of neuromuscular lock which says that thoughts in the mind are maintained by muscle locks/tension patterns throughout the body.Great book, great techniques. I wish I could have met the man himself.

Great book but less than stellar writing.

It's a really good concept and lots of value here. The writing is just more confusing than it needs to be. I can tell the man is a deep thinker and my favorite parts are when he waxes philosophically. It's a great resource for a coach and motivated individual but likely not a good first step. Which is a shame because this is basic stuff that people should know. So I'd give this 5 stars for the content but 3 for the delivery. So a nice 4 star averages out. You won't regret buying it though.

This is a wonderful introduction filled with so much knowledge and inspiration of awareness. I have done the movements and found myself being a lot more gentle with myself and my chronic pain disappearing.

Cumbersome reading

The price of almost seventeen dollars for such a small pocketbook seems high. It would have been a more powerful book if there were more real images (of people) with explanations for posture corrections. The book is well written, but for the average person who wants to find usable information on the Feldenkrais method there was too much information and not enough illustration.H.McDowell

Moshe's

Moshe's Awareness Through Movement is a rather interesting and straightforward book about learning how your body moves, how to become graceful by becoming aware of how your body moves and then moving without 'getting in your own way'. Moshe focuses on sensation, movement, thought, feeling, and how these four waking states are interconnected. He also writes about how the brain learns how to move, how an infant first learns how to move and what parts of the body first move, etc. I won't spoil the entire book, so you'll have to read more on your own.

Great Theory

I loved this book and have read the first part over and over again.But if you want more than theory and want to learn some exercises of the method, this book might not be the best way to do it.As another reviewer states, the text is complicated and the wooden mannequin photos a true mystery.If you want to know more about the method, I would suggest buying this book for the theory and also get "Feldenkrais: The Busy Person's Guide to Easier Movement" by Frank Wildman for the exercises.
