When you need more precision than a knife
I’m reasonably good with a chef’s knife. There are times, such as any gratin potatoes or julienne carrots, where more precision (or greater safety) are required. I have used this mandolin quite a few times since receiving it. It has performed nearly flawlessly. There are several features which in my opinion make it stand out among mandolins. Safety. Mandolins must be used carefully. This unit has a locked setting where the blades are tucked away to minimize accidental cutting. The blade is removable should you think that important. The holder for slicing the food is spring-loaded with an indicator on top giving you an idea of how much remains to be sliced. It is also equipped with 3 pins which penetrate the food to lessen slippage during use. With those in mind I use and recommend a cut-resistant glove. Utility. Thickness settings are achieved with a knob on one side. There is an indicator on the side with positive stops at each thickness. Moving beyond the thickest slicing setting there two additional choices for julienne slicing. The removable blade is also reversible which permits making rippled slices. The foldable foot is rubber-coated and well constructed making for good stability while using. Do remember though that those slices have to go somewhere so be prepared to move them from beneath the slicer frequently and keep your countertop reasonably dry. If you are in the market for a mandolin I can recommend you seriously consider this one.

Much better than old-style mandolines, and versatile too!
This is a great tool I use the mandoline mostly for shredding and slicing and julienning vegetables for salads. Oxo did a great job of designing this tool. It's easy to use and easy to clean. I have no difficulty storing it in one of my kitchen drawers. It will shred cabbage and other vegetables paper thin. If you're going to be using a mandoline slicer, also buy a cut resistant glove because the hand guards that come with them are not suitable for all applications. I read the reviews here before buying the mandoline and I see that the hand guard is criticized by several reviewers. I think that may be because their applications are poorly suited to the use of the hand guard. In practice, I use the hand guard for everything except when starting to shred a large piece of vegetable like a quarter of a cabbage. In those cases, I use the cut resistant glove to start shredding, then when the cabbage is sliced small enough, I switch to using the hand guard. After a bit of experimentation, I found the hand guard to be useful for almost every application. Nevertheless, I do not consider a cut resistant glove to be optional when using mandolines. I believe they are required. Good ones cost only about ten dollars and can prevent a serious injury. I keep finding new uses for the mandoline. And I even bought a second mandoline to keep on handy on my countertop. It's the Oxo one handed model that is small and light weight.

Precision Slicing Powerhouse (with the Bulk to Prove It!)
Why Purchased: This purchase was made to improve efficiency in making homemade slaw and potato chips, my knife skills were insufficient. The OXO mandoline was chosen for its potential to deliver consistent and effortless results. Pros: Versatile Blade Arsenal: The mandoline includes a two-sided blade for straight slices and crinkle cuts, and an additional set of sharp edges for julienne and French fries, offering various slicing possibilities. Stability and Safety Focus: The wide, non-slip feet keep the mandoline stable on the countertop, and the food holder provides a secure grip, enhancing safety during use (definitely use the secure grip, the blades are EXTREMELY sharp!). There is ample space beneath the mandoline for a plate or tray to catch sliced food. Adjustable Thickness with Ease: The thickness adjustment dial is intuitive and easy to read, allowing precise control over slice thickness without the need to swap out blades. Cons: Storage: Despite folding relatively flat, the mandoline remains bulky (which is likely why it is so sturdy), which can be inconvenient in kitchens with limited space. Cleaning Can Be Fiddly: Removing food particles from around the blades, especially for julienne and French fries, and cleaning the crevices can require extra effort and care. Price Point Consideration: The OXO Chef's Mandoline Slicer 2.0 is priced higher than simpler mandolines, which may be justified by its quality and versatility for dedicated home cooks but might be excessive for occasional use. Final Summary & Recommendation (4 Stars): The OXO Good Grips Chef's Mandoline Slicer 2.0 is a well-constructed and versatile tool that streamlines food preparation by providing uniform cuts. Its blades, stable design, and easy thickness adjustments enhance its functionality in the kitchen. However, the storage challenges and cleaning requirements prevent it from achieving a perfect score. For those who frequently prepare dishes needing precise and consistent slicing and are willing to invest in a high-quality tool, the OXO mandoline is a suitable choice.

Oh Wow!
Why didn’t I buy this years and years ago?! I originally was going to buy a cheaper one, but some of the reviews made me think of things such as the mandolin bending if you press down on it too hard, blade going doll, fast, etc. So I decided on this brand and this particular mandolin after doing much much research! Boy, this did not disappoint! This is truly an amazing tool and should be in everybody’s kitchen. it is extremely well-made, strong, heavy duty, great features, easy cleaning, easy blade adjustments, nice color, well I could just keep going on and on. I got this on sale at Amazon for $50. You could always set a price alert on the price watch website (CamelCamelCamel) and it will alert you when the Amazon price reaches the price you specify. it also shows the price history of this product on Amazon. It would be so worth it to be a little patient and get this beauty if you’re unable to get it now. I 110% recommend this!

Very sharp and cuts well
This probably works like a dream! I love it for dehydrating apples, and Au Gratin potatoes! Beware, it’s very sharp! Don’t put your fingers in blade to grab anything; use a tool of some kind. Just turn knob to adjust size.

Used often because it's so eady
Versatile, precise, even, and multiple thicknesses in cuts. Safety gaurd is great - you get all of the produce. This is easy to pull out and use. It's not bulky and heavy and that means it's getting used a lot. The design is a bit brilliant and impressive. It's easy to clean and easy to store.

I love Oxo, but this thing is *AWFUL* - Unable to cut anything!
I bought this on the recommendation of Cooks Illustrated, and to be honest, it's the worst mandoline I've ever used. I had major issues with both the blade and the hand guard. First off, the blade: it is not sharp. And when I say "not sharp" I mean "unable to cut anything." You have to forcefully slam any hard vegetables (carrots, potatoes) down into the blade just to get them through, and the slices end up jagged and uneven. You have to use so much force, my forearm was sore after attempting to make French fries. Anything softer than a potato is just turned to mush: cucumbers and firm tomatoes are turned to liquified puddles instead of clean slices. At first I thought it was user error and I was just getting used to the mechanics of a new tool. After hacking several pounds of potatoes to bits, I checked the blade on a piece of paper, and then my skin. It was only then I realized it was blunt. Completely dull, and unable to slice anything. It's like I a received a unit with a defective, entirely unsharpened blade.... and because of the single angle edge, I was unable to sharpen myself. Separately, the hand guard is really awful. The "spring" mechanism is so strong, I was unable to get any veggies to stay IN the hand guard for slicing. Zucchini, carrots, potatoes... they will all shoot out of the hand guard and across the room after loading, and you have to press down forcefully while slicing to make sure the guard doesn't come off of the vegetables. Completely useless, and a design that doesn't actually seem to solve any issues. I will say that Oxo make generally great products... I have tons that I love and use regularly. I also know that they probably would have tried to fix the issue, but the quality of the blade and design of the hand guard seemed so misguided that it was a moot point. I ended up returning this item and got a refund.

Passable
The slicer is quite nice, but the company non-response to a simple question is unacceptable. Through Amazon I asked OXO if replacement blades were available. The initial request required a bunch of data from me to even get the request considered. After my response to them, they sent me a long automated generated form asking for the same info from me. I replied that all I needed was a simple answer to a simple question. Their response was the same long automated form asking for the same info. I COULD NOT GET A RESPONCE, but that isn’t the worst part. With no replacement blades available, this slicer becomes junk when the initial blade gets dull -all blades get dull over time. Then you must replace this junk with a new product – much too expensive for my pay grade. Do you think I’ll send it back? I wish I could give it five negative stars. Edit 1 After getting to talk to someone on the phone, I verified that there are no replacement blades available, and never will be. I inspected the bade carefully and decided that I could sharpen the straight blade with my Chef’sChoice Trizor 15XV sharper. That made it worthwhile to try and work with it. The straight blade was very badly sharpened with severe and irregular deep tool marks on the blade. It was so dull that it was safe to run your finger along the blade edge. It was so dull that it took great effort to slice a potato ¼ inch wide slice. I doubt a female could do it at all. The tool marks on the replacement were a little more uniform, but the blade had gained very little sharpness. A knife sharpened with my chef’sChoice sharpener can be sharpened until it will slice copy paper, and that is the standard I use for knife sharpness. The new blade would just bend the paper and not attempt to slice it – not acceptable. Sharping the new blade was in order. My sharpener gives a good idea about the hardness of the metal of a knife by how long it takes to sharpen the knife – the harder the steel the longer time it takes to sharpen. OXO claims that the metal is high grade Japanese steel which is very hard. This blade required the most work I have ever done on a knife. All the tool marks had to be removed and the edge redefined. It took about an hour to complete the work meaning that it is very hard steel, and it will slice copy paper with ease. It will now also slice ¼-in potato slices with ease. I believe it will do a very good job on any straight blade only job. But that’s not the end of the story. None of the vertical blades can be sharpened because of their design, and I can’t figure a way to sharpen the wavy blade. But that doesn’t really matter because I believe all the functions except straight blade slicing are useless – yes useless. Safety This is a good-bad situation. The food handler design and operation make for very safe operation while slicing. But As has been reported, the blade is held in place by friction only. There is a little friction when the wavy blade is visible, and almost none when the straight blade is visible. With the straight blade visible, it will slide out of the mandolin if you turn it on its side and just shake it gently. This is certainly a design defect. A lock should have been provided to remove this hazard. This hazard may be enough to keep you from buying this mandolin. Conclusion If you can’t live with the safety hazard, or sharpening requirements, or use of the straight blade only, DON’T BUY IT. I have not made the mandolin safe in transportation and storage. Edit2 I make a water proof strap wide enough to cover the blade area and long enough to wrap around the table with a loop holding the blade in place and the whole thing secured with hook and loop tape. I feel that it is now safe, and if you can put up with all the problems, you may like it.

The blade is dull and needs to be sharpened
The product’s quality is quite lovely. I appreciate the various mechanisms and options it provides. However, I was surprised that the blade was not sharp enough to cut anything and was not ready to use straight out of the box.

Robustezza e precisione!

Excellent, quality item
This is an excellent machine. Oxo items are always robust, easy to use and well made. Despite this, I sent it back because it was a little too large for everyday quick use. It is a sharp, precision item and if I used it several times a day I would have kept it, but I decided to go instead for the smaller Oxo mandolin, which is smaller to store and is quick, handy and easy to use,

Seitdem alles in Ordnung. Bestes Gerät, das ich je gekauft habe.
