Being a vegetarian doesn’t mean your emergency food storage will be lacking in protein variety. Because black beans are a good source of protein, Augason Farms Gluten Free Black Bean Burger Mix is an ideal way to add protein to your long term food storage. It has a robust, complex flavor that even meat lovers will enjoy. Whether you use it in your daily meals, take it camping, or keep in long term food storage, you’ll find this Black Bean Burger Mix always has the same great quality and flavor. And, it’s certified gluten free. Review: Black bean burger mix is highly versatile - This is part of my everyday pantry and my Zombie Apocalypse long term storage plan … yes I also have chickens! You have to acquire a taste for this if you're expecting it to taste like a juicy all beef hamburger. It does not. It is very appealing in that it requires zero refrigeration even after opening. This is a highly seasoned vegetable substitute than when mixed with real beef will stretch your meat by 2-3 times for much less money. By the time I rehydrate it the cost is less than 2 dollars a pound so that’s a real win. You need to make the burgers thinner and watch the heat on them or they will crisp. I typically add a touch of oil to my pan if I’m trying to make a burger with this. They make great sliders or mix for soups , casseroles etc. I will be keeping quite a lot of this product eventually . It does not crumble they way beef would so keep this in mind. I am not a vegetarian but I am passionate about self-reliance under any conditions so this product makes me very happy. The people at Augason Farms are fantastic to speak with if you ever need any further information. They are not currently shipping directly because their demand is so very high. This product was originally made in a highly religious agricultural community that wanted a method of preparing for hard times and going to the store less frequently. It was life changing for me when I had surgeries during Covid. I highly recommend this product and most Augason Farms products. My only warning is to watch prices very closely because they change rapidly. I now have 4 years of daily data on several sites and it’s been an amazing process to watch the escalation of pricing as well as the discontinuation of some of the best products ever to be made by them. Their taco mix was superlative and hopefully will be brought back as it is better than good. If you talk to Augason let them know!!! Review: Decent - First thing you will notice is that the mix dry smells great. However, when you rehydrate it there is a scent of what I can only describe as raw bean sprouts. I was a bit worried, but after pan frying the patties that dissipated. Overall prepared as a burger is tasted pretty good. If you are expecting the texture and taste of beef, you will be disappointed. This is a veggie burger folks, it in no way is trying to imitate a beef burger. For a veggie burger, its pretty tasty.

Great Taste!!
Okay I'm a meat eater and I was a little bit skeptical.... But considering the price and the need for a long-term dry storage food source that gives protein, I decided to buy and try... And I'm very glad I did! Be prepared this is not broken down into small packages inside the bucket... When I opened it it was loose packed, I fortunately had a container I could move some to for convenience, and the container resealed nicely with the little Rubber seal around the top of the lid. Taste, how can I describe it? It is not like biting into real hamburger, but that didn't bother me at all, the texture was like hamburger, the flavor is bursting with spices! If you do not like the spices in it, I would recommend testing a small amount. But the spice flavor was not too overpowering, just simple condiments and bread made for a couple of great Black Bean burgers. I pan fried mine with a little Wesson oil, having now tasted them I think many different oils would work to fry them in... I will be testing them out on the grill, and possibly mixing in a slight bit of oil with the water to see if it will change how they cook. Once again I highly recommend this, and this is going to become a regular staple in my RV, whether it's mixing it independently or just making regular hamburger stretch. It's only me in here so this is probably a Year's worth... But I'm definitely going to keep ordering it in the future, and most likely keep an unopened back up!💯

Zombie apocalypse survivors kit
Happy with what appears to be a great product. I’ve not opened the bucket since it’s part of my “end of the world zombie apocalypse” food cache - but for now, I’m Happy with what I can see. No damage to can, easy to read creation & expiration dates!

Simple ingredients, tasty, cost-effective
I love this mix and that all the ingredients are easily-understandable. No strange-sounding chemicals that I need to look up on the internet. The bucket is a bit difficult to open, but that also means that the seal is going to be very good, so I guess I'm okay with that. One tip - add some water and let it sit for a few minutes. It'll absorb a lot of it and will look like a really thick paste (if you didn't add too much..). After waiting, add some more water until you get a creamy consistency that's easy to stir but not watery. Doing the above makes sure you get a moist patty/meatball. I don't really like measuring (except when baking of course) - I cook by eye/taste/feel/gut, so this is how I gauge it out. If you're a baker and like to measure, then maybe you don't need to use my method.
