Do you have to use a Soapstone box, and what is the benefit of using one? Does is kill the Flies or traps them ?

The soapstone box is just for looks to hide the trap. I've never used the box, but may get one as I seem to always have a few stragglers around. The traps themselves with fairly well, though not nearly as well as a large bowl with cider vinegar if you have a pretty severe problem.

The solution is already in them. It comes with a stick to use to perforate the 4 covered holes on the top. This product worked very well for me.

I have kept unopened ones in my pantry until the next summer, and they were fine. Just store them in a place that doesn't get too warm. The solution is vinegar-like.
