Leash comes off!
Although I am a big fan of Ruffwear products, I want to caution buyers of this leash to be aware that when using it with the Ruffwear harness, the clasp will unexpectedly come off the harness leaving the dog free to run. I have had this happen numerous times while walking my 29 pound Australian Labradoodle. I have discarded this leash for fear of losing my pup.

WARNING: dogs can easily slip out of the clasp on this leash!
I love the Front Range harnesses for my dogs, so I got these leashes to match. THEY DO NOT WORK. BOTH of my dogs (beagles) slipped their harness out of the leash AT LEAST once per week -- not even when they were pulling, and not under any condition that seemed to be consistent. After the third time we decided it wasn't anomalous, so we spent almost an hour trying to figure out how the dogs were getting out.The clasp (which is supposedly easy to do one-handed) lets the harness's hook slip out if the hook twists sideways against it. So if your dog twists at all while on this leash -- and I imagine most dogs will -- it can easily get out. And that's while using the leash with the harness it's supposedly designed for! If it doesn't work with that harness, who knows if it'll work with one it's not supposed to fit.I don't understand why Ruffwear markets the clasp as being so great when it doesn't do the basic thing it is supposed to do: stay hooked to the dog. I can't recommend against this strongly enough.

Clasp can't be trusted
Normally I wouldn't write a negative review, but... Twice I've had the clasp on this pop off the harness. The harness just has a normal 1/2" metal ring, that's about 1/16" wide. Under certain conditions where the leash goes from slack to taunt, the spring clip can allow the ring to come up and off the clasp. I'm using this with an 11 week pup, who has no idea what he's doing. He will just randomly go to dart across streets and stuff. If it had popped off at that time, I'm terrified of what might have happened. Luckily both times he was just walking in a safe area and nothing happened, and I caught him.

Thin but sturdy
I was not optimistic about this leash when I received it. It's very thin. After using a few times it seems to be quite sturdy. I havent had any clasp issues others mentioned. Comfortable to use. Ive had 6 and 4 foot leashes. 5 feet is a good happy medium. I use the lower traffic handle alot.1 month update:The clasp failed for the first time in about 120 uses. Pretty scary when it un hooks. I couldn't for the life of me duplicate this on my own but my dog was successful by twisting and pulling. I hooked a carabiner to the lower handle and the inside the clasp to prevent the gate from opening. This setup is very secure. Takes a bit longer to connect but better safe than sorry.

DO NOT BUY. MY 13 POUND DOG BROKE LOOSE FROM IT ON FIRST WALK.
Terrible design. First time we on our dogs on a walk with this, our other leash got tangled with this and unhooked the clasp, letting my dog loose in the middle of the street in a busy intersection as we crossed. Luckily he stayed with us, and we got him home safely. That said, this is a dangerous product with an unsecure clasp that is prone to un-hooking itself. We finally settled on the open air supplies leash bought through amazon and couldn’t be happier. It’s much more secure. I hope ruffwear addresses this design flaw as I know we can’t be the only ones to experience it.

Slips off Ruffwear harness, safety concern
It’s a well made leash that held up for our first puppy who only used it about 3 months and outgrew it. We are now using it on our second puppy and in the past 4 months, it’s fallen off his Ruffwear harness 5 times!!! Our dog got loose and we had to chase him down, luckily it was near home and we could react quickly but I’m terrified to use this leash again. The clasp isn’t very secure and if the dog makes certain movements or pulls in the right direction, it will slip right off and they’ll be free. I’m not sure why this clasp design was chosen versus the standard leash clasp. We won’t be using it anymore although it’s a well built leash otherwise.

DO NOT PURCHASE - my dog got loose
As previous reviewer reported, my dog got loose and I cannot duplicate how the clasp failed.I cannot see where the failure happened, but there he was, standing ten feet away from us at a cafe. Thank goodness he's not a runner. I cannot believe he got loose!!! I'm still stunned. We tied the leash on him the fourth time wearing it , but that's really not the point of purchasing a leash with a clasp.I'm sorry I'm outside the return window and I cannot return.

Lighter than expected, and that's great.
This is a fantastic leash. The clip is the best that I have ever used. The wire gate makes it easily connected and disconnected with one hand. Even with gloves, even if you can't hold the collar D-ring or harness, it just works. Milled out of billet aluminum, with a stainless wire gate, swivel, and D-ring rather than cheaply cast out of zinc, this feels like a climbing carabineer compared to a keychain. The webbing is surprisingly light and thin. I honestly would have dinged a cheaper leash for cheaping out here, the other leash I have is much thicker. But it's more than strong enough to be a leash, like a ratchet strap. The combination of the special clip and strong but light webbing is strong enough to *hold my 160 lbs off the ground* - it will be fine for walking the dog. There is a padded handle, so it's not uncomfortable. It's 59" long - I think they must have been shooting for 5' +- 1", and just came up a bit short. The only downside of this light webbing is that it took a bit of training for my pup to realize when the leash was getting taut. It's not nearly as heavy as what she was used to. But she caught on after a couple miles. The grab handle at the collar is handy. My dog is just a bit too short to walk while holding it - we bump into each other. The handle part is about an inch longer than the main leash part, so while it's mostly flush it's easy to grab. The light webbing is nice when using this handle because it is almost unnoticeable bumping on my shins and calves when I hold the main handle with one hand and walk the dog on the other side.Another great Ruffwear product!

Spring clip fell off after 3 weeks
Overall the lead appears too thin for a medium dog, the swivel seems too weak and the spring clip seemed very flimsy. I bought this because the standard lead clip was not secure on the V ring on the RUFFWEAR harness and I thought this lead clip was designed specifically to complement the harness. We were walking the dogs along a quiet country lane at night, and less than 10 minutes into the walk the lead simply fell out of the harness clip. When I checked the spring clip was missing. I’ve sent this back.

Not safe for use on my puppy .... but seems to be ok on her now she is older
I've been using it with a lightweight puppy collar on my 3 month old puppy, and the clasp somehow keeps coming off the metal loop on her collar - its happened about four times in ten days. I have been checking that the clasp is on correctly, and it is, but I think it releases too easily when she's wriggling around - for example when I'm putting her in the car. This means the lead is not safe for me to use with her - the last time it came off was when we were getting into the car on a main road, which could have been disasterous.Update: I have started using this lead again with a dogmatic head collar now that my dog is older, because the lead is really light and the headcollar attachment is under the dog's chin, so I don't want to use a heavy lead. So far the clasp has not been opening, so I think that the clasp is ok as long as you are not picking up a squirming puppy.

Easy use clasp and smart features
This is my favourite lead for my dog, which is a ~20 kg border collie mix. The clasp is really easy to use as you don't have to push down on a knob to clasp it on, but just press it against the ring of the collar or harness. The lead itself has a nice padded handle, and it has a useful "built in" handle near the collar/harness which is good in traffic. Downside is that the leash cannot really be made much longer or shorter. I mainly use ruffwear harnesses, which are also excellent by the way. Only downside is that the dog tag is perhaps a little too well hidden in the pocket.

Dangerous for puppy
I've used this lead on my puppy for the last 2 weeks. Already, two times a week (4 times total) my puppy gets unclipped from this lead while on a walk. It happens when the puppy is strolling and then decides to run. It's the worst time for that to happen since a puppy doesn't have good recall of their name and will not stop for anyone calling their name but will run into the street. I can no longer trust this lead to keep my pup safe as he is being trained.I purchased a different lead and will be returning this one.

Long lead, but don't buy if your dog pulls; it will hurt!!
Young boxer, still doing lead work, and occasionally wants to pull still. Bought the lead for the additional length. Only the handle is padded. The rest of the lead fabric cuts into your hands, my other half won't even use this lead. In the cold was the worst! The redeeming feature is that this lead is long enough to let your dog explore more than others on loose lead.
