Super Simple Setup Simple set up, just download the app, screw in the bulb and connect. No Hub Required. About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Simple, Inexpensive Smarthome How did you come up with the idea for this product? We've all heard about smarthome, but the pricing and complexity of what's out there today puts many people off. When I wanted to set my apartment up I was swept into a sea of apps, standards, high prices, and different hubs, so you end up with more apps on your home screen and less money in your wallet. We wanted to create something simple and inexpensive that would work with Alexa and Google Assistant. This would solve the high cost per device and the complexity and tie-in of separate ecosystems/hubs, each with its own app. What makes your product special? It's the balance of everything: Simplicity, value driven price points, integration with Google Home and Echo, and the “one-stop-shop” ability to manage a full range of products (cameras, bulbs, plugs, power strips, wall plates) while using the same app. And Geeni connects directly to your home wifi network, no special hub or bridge required. You can try out one bulb or outfit your entire home, making it much easier for you to try out, rather than forcing you to buy a "starter pack" and get stuck with a particular hub. What has been the best part of your startup experience? There are so many interesting products coming out every day, but also many things that make you ask yourself "what were they thinking?". The most exciting part for us has been to listen to our testers and customers to focus on the features and products that really matter. Customers have been super excited about things like Echo and Google Home support, accessible price points, and an easy to use app that covers all devices. And these are things people actually want to let into their homes: smart bulbs, plugs (to control their appliances), security cameras, surge protectors, etc. No smart Paperclips here :)

This item would never connect. Regardless what mode I tried in I would always get a failure to connect message. Geeni does not have a customer support number so you have to do all communication via email. There is a 2 to 3 day response time in between each email. This makes eliminating simple things take weeks. I ended up giving up.

No "hub" needed!
I was looking for a smart plug that would work with my Alexa. Not knowing much about how they work, I ordered another, more expensive brand recently only to find out when I got it that I needed an additional expensive part…a "hub". While it was mentioned in the product description, I did not know what it meant or that it was an additional item for purchase. So I returned it. I just got this Geeni smart plug and it does not need a hub. The instructions were clear and easy. I downloaded their app and registered it, plugged the Geeni into an outlet, plugged my lamp into the Geeni and voila, it was working! I then went to my Alexa app, enabled the Geeni skill and synced them together. The whole process took less than 10 minutes, including the time it took me to read the instructions. And I'll also be able to add additional outlets or bulbs on that same app. Can't imagine that all use the energy tracking feature, but if that's important to you this smart plug has it. To address a few concerns of other reviewers, I do not hear any hum coming from this unit. Also I'm not sure why the app would drain so much cell phone power, because it certainly doesn't need to be open all the time. And if you use it through Alexa, the app doesn't have to be opened at all. Anyway, this product was made for the electronically challenged like me. I love it for that reason!

Great item, but makes a tiny buzzing sound that I hate.
This is my first smart home product, and I am largely very happy with it. The Geeni app is very easy to use and I like that you can monitor the energy use of whatever you have plugged in. I used the app to set up a schedule for the lamp I have plugged into it to go on and turn off at certain times of the day. I use it with my Google home and, after setting it up, is also pretty easy to use. I have unplugged it once so far, and the Google Home did not recognize it was connected right away, but that was resolved quickly. My only real issue with this item is that it makes a very high pitched buzzing (I guess?) sound and it drives me nuts. I really can only hear it if I am sitting next to it (which happens a lot because the outlet it is plugged into is right next to our couch) and my husband has said he cannot hear what I am describing. It doesn't seem to irritate the pets either.Other than that, I would recommend it.

Work in progress, but best bang for the buck.
Bought (4) for a recent vacation. Setup took about 20 minutes for all of them, though with 10 minutes being one unit that was being finicky. I strongly recommend setting up a static IP address in your router after you get it connected. I was losing connections until I did this (with Spectrum/TWC wifi router) and that fixed the problem. Occasional lapses in connection that reconnects after awhile, but I'm chalking those up to my router, not the Geeni. They turn on and off quickly with the app and the countdown timer is pretty cool. My biggest gripe right now is the IOS app does not have a Widget view nor an Apple Watch app. It's kind of a pain to unlock my phone, launch app, then click on the outlet versus a quick swipe down on lock screen or using the watch. Get on the ball Geeni!Other than those gripes, for the money extremely happy.

Goes "offline" too frequently.
I've owned this for about 4 months now and it goes "offline" every 3 weeks or so. I have to "remove" the device and search again for it. It'll work for 3-4 weeks and then just goes "offline" again. I have the same type of devices made other makers and have never had that problem with them. I won't buy this product again from Geeni. In my opinion, it's failure rate is unacceptable.

Works - Could Easily Be Better
It works very well, the timer function is great and it's power measuring capabilities is something I appreciate. Here's the downside: This thing whines pretty loud!Update: Downgraded it 1-star the whine seems louder, it's loud enough I had to remove it from my bedroom.

Check out the reviews of the geeni app before spending money on this device
I don't often rate products only one star here, but you have to keep in mind that this type of product is useless unless it is backed up by a properly working app. The geeni app on Android is getting a 3.1-star rating at the moment (down from 3.4 not so long ago), which tells you it is far from being solid. Since the last update, a lot of people cannot even use the app (it keeps crashing on them); as for me, the device won't even connect to the new version of the app. Customer support for the app seems to be non-existent. Thankfully, I only paid $16 for the device, which is sitting in a drawer for the time being.

Works good.
It works as I needed. Put it on a schedule to turn an led light strip on. The plug it's self is a little big but did not interfere with a second plug. One thing I will say bothers me is a high pitched hum.
