Much better than the next cheapest alternative
I bought this to reach some inaccessible vacuum clamps and fuel lines under the brake booster of my car. The first, cheaper tool of similar design I purchased (also available at my local O'autoparts store) bent immediately upon putting tension on the cable. I was able to add tension to the cable but it bent again and was after this unable to fully close and therefore useless. This new tool will survive a lifetime of diy use and would be possibly adequate for a professional. Sometimes there is no replacement for the right tool

Great tool - Didn't know what I was missing!
Wow! This is the greatest tool ever! I had no idea what I was missing - I should have purchased one of these long ago. It worked perfectly for some spring clamps located low on the firewall in one of my cars where nothing else could reach. I also bought some heavier duty spring clamps to replace the originals and this tool worked perfectly on them. I am surprised how securely it grabs the clamp arms. I have spent too many years fighting with pliers and vise grips that slip off at just the wrong moment, leaving the clamp arms in a more awkward position than when started. The ratcheting feature is awesome in that you can set it to open the clamp to a particular position and then be able to focus on getting it into place among the spaghetti factory of wires and hoses. With my situation, I positioned and located the clamps on the fittings, leaving the tool on each clamp as the new hose was pushed into place on the fitting. Lift the clamp up onto the hose with the tool and release - easy as that.

Worked great! For about fifteen minutes.
Was it just mine, or do all of them fail within less than half an hour? The first couple of clamps I removed, it worked great. I was thrilled!! What a great tool! Then on the third clamp it wouldn't compress enough... Oh, OK, there's an adjustment. So I adjusted the cable and got that clamp off. Opening the next clamp was the same story. Now it's out of adjustment range, won't compress enough to get the clamp off, and there's no way to shorten or adjust the cable. It just stretched at least an inch or inch and a half. Utterly useless; I had to finish the job using an assortment of pliers and rip apart the Rotax intake system to get to half of them.Maybe it was just one defective unit. Maybe the manufacturer bought a bad (or cheap) spool of cable and they're all that way. I don't know; all I know is it's going back because it's useless to me now. I don't see a problem with the design, other than the fact that the cable has a cast ball on one end and is swaged into the threaded adjuster on the other end. If it stretches (as mine did immediately when used) or breaks, you're left with a long floppy paperweight. It's a nice tool ruined by a cheap cable.

Get one, even for one use
I bought this pair of Flexible Hose Clamp Pliers after wasting loads of time dealing with a spring hose clamp. I typically buy the tool after dealing with the problem. I am glad I did. This tool is slick! I had to replace the leaking gasket on the oil filter adapter on my 4.6 Ford modular motor. The lower radiator hose attaches to the adapter and is a PITA to get to. This tool snakes down along the engine and gets the clamp out of the way in record time. This set of Flexible Hose Clamp Pliers has a nice locking ratchet that hold the clamp open while it is moved out of the way. Fit and finish is good.

Perfect Tool for Factory Hose Clamps
I can't believe it took me this long to buy this tool. This makes getting factory hose clamps so much easier than channel lock type pliers. Even the clamps on the lower radiator hoses come off with ease as the cable is long enough to reach the lower hoses from the top. No more crawling underneath the vehicle of fighting with trying to get pliers to fit the clamp that is facing away from you. Automatically locks into place once you open up the clamp so you can slide it back without holding pressure on the tool. A must for any gearhead or DIY shade tree mechanic

A must for Spring Clamps
This tool works great on the spring clamps on our 1999 VW Beetle. It works best on the bigger clamps like the ones on the upper and lower radiator hoses. It works on the smaller clamps too, but it would work better if it was able to pinch the smaller clamps together just a little bit more. This tool is a lifesaver and is a lot easier to use than pliers in most instances. The long wire extension also lets you get into tight spaces where you wouldn't be able to fit pliers. Highly recommended.
