Golden Barrel Unsulfured Blackstrap Molasses, 32 oz

My first time using molasses on my own, I vividly remember my father using this in cream of wheat and oatmeal when I was a child and this totally took me back and created the same case that I have been missing for years not realizing this is what he used to use so I’m glad I purchased this. It has a great flavor and had a great educational experience for my kids and telling them what molasses is and all the good health benefits that it has in it will totally purchase from this brand again. This is a really good molasses. I use this in hot cereal and tea and even coffee

This lasts a long time I guess, depending on what you’re using it for, but I was making Bokashi with it and I found it to be amazing. I never knew about blackstrap molasses unsulfured. I didn’t know how healthy it was so I found out that I could take some just for minerals and good stuff, but it works amazingly well and feeding the microorganisms that I make for the garden with BOkashi to ferment kitchen scraps quickly, and then they dissolve into the ground and make compost super fast. I haven’t used any in baking, but it makes a great tea if it’s dissolved in water.

This is great molasses! It is unsulfured and the flavor is very good especially on fresh biscuits. I copied my grandpa when he would put a dab of butter on a saucer and put some molasses on top of it mix it and spread it on his biscuits. Yum! I use it in my mixture for my plants as well.

Great taste, much better than other molasses brands. I enjoy a couple tablespoons a day for iron and regularity.

If, as I do, you have a taste for strong flavored black molasses, I think you will find this product acceptably adequate. When I say 'acceptably adequate", you might think I don't regard it too highly. Not so. The reason I chose those words is that, for the first however-many years of my life, the only variety that passed my lips was Tate & Lyle Black Treacle (T&L). If you've a taste for that, you'll understand my choice of words. That doesn't mean this is not good. Now I'm not a blackstrap junkie by any means but I seem to have been on a quest for the best in the US. That's because my preference - born from experience - is imported to the US only in 454g (about one pound) tins, and so is comparatively expensive. It seems that there are too few homegrown varieties of Blackstrap molasses in the US that have the same strength of flavor that comes close to The T&L product. I'm not going to suggest why that should be. But one of the best - if not THE best - that I have found is this Golden Barrel product. It has one of the best flavors, and I believe that's chiefly because of the Iron content. According to the label, one tablespoonful will have about 25% of the recommended daily amount. Ordinary molasses usually has no Iron at all, and even a strong Chinese Bead Molasses will only have around 10%. Other useful elements include Sodium (1% RDA in each tablespoon), Potassium (9%), and Calcium (20%). Those proportions are all good in my book - especially the low Sodium. [November 2018 Note: the label may have different RDA'S than the above. Apparently the FDA recently changed the label standards with a recalculation of RDAs. Golden Barrel says that the labels are changed but the proportions remain the same as always, though] Carbs are represented, of course, but only a little more than half of a spoonful (including sugars which are only about one-sixth of a spoonful). Blackstrap is one of the healthiest sugar-based foods, and it also has flavor. Plenty of uses, not only in cooking. This Golden Barrel product is not only very good, it's also one gallon, so an economical purchase of a wholesome product. Head and shoulders above other home-grown blackstraps that are readily available across the country. According to the description here, its shelf life is 4 years. When I received mine, the best before date was a few months less than 4 years away. Nevertheless, in my experience, shelf life could exceed 4 years by a comfortable margin ... and this might be all but used up by that time, so it's not a problem. Just something to be aware of. Packaging was less than I would expect, but the seal on the jug prevented any spillage during shipping. The only reason I didn't give it all five stars is that it can be purchased direct at an even better price per gallon and - if you are serious about this - in huge 5 gallon pails.

This is a very good tasting and cost effective addition to your pantry. I have used it in several different recipes and it has performed beautifully each and every time. Compared to the smaller sizes available in the local grocery stores, this is much more cost effective option if you bake frequently.

Product is just as described. It’s MOLASSES! Product arrived in good condition and intact. I was worried about receiving a box of goo. I wouldn’t hesitate to order again.

I have to restrain myself from eating it because it's too good... I take it as a dietary supplement... if you like molasses you can't go wrong with this one... I pour 200ml into a small container and put it in the freezer... the molasses thickens 4-5 times and then once a day I eat the equivalent of 1 tablespoon with a baby scoop... a real treat!

As a pre-diabetic, I was sceptical about ordering this product. It contains sugar, and that made me a little uneasy. After educating myself, the decision was made - go for it. So, I finished the first container and am ordering the second one. I take a teaspoonful of molasses once a day with the biggest meal of the day. It does not affect my blood glucose at all this way. It really boosts my energy throughout the day, and my mind is clear. In general, I feel great after taking it. I stopped taking single supplements. However, I have one request to whoever is distributing this product. Please consider substituting the current plastic container with a glass jar.
