Extremely quiet.
Super quiet! This 14000 BTU portable unit is so much quieter than my 12000 BTU wall-mounted Kenmore A/C (which is only about 4 years old), that I am thinking about buying another of these portable units to replace my wall-mounted A/C.I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. There is a 12000 BTU wall-mounted Kenmore A/C in my living room, which is enough to cool about half of the apartment. It does not cool the bedrooms. The apartment management does not allow tenants to have window A/C units. My only option is to use a portable unit.I did a lot of research, and decided to buy a dual-hose portable unit because the single-hose units draw outdoor air into the conditioned space. Single-hose portable air conditioners are terribly inefficient. I also looked at reliability, and decided NOT to buy a portable A/C made by Whynter, because they have terrible long-term reliability. This Haier unit scored well on both reliability and efficiency.I ordered one on Amazon, but the seller cancelled the order without any explanation. I assume that it was out-of-stock.So, I bought a manufacturer-refurbished unit on the largest e-auction site for $80 less than the price on Amazon. This air conditioner is so quiet that I can easily watch TV while it is set to the highest fan setting! I can't watch TV comfortably with my wall-mounted Kenmore A/C, even when it is set to the LOW fan setting.I may buy another of this Haier A/C. If I do, I will build my own custom exhaust adapter for my sliding glass door.Several reviewers have commented that the hoses sometimes become dislodged from the window kit. I can certainly see how that can happen. So, I bought some self-drilling screws from that big-box hardware store with the orange logo... and I used screws to make sure that the hoses will never become dislodged. Also, I used Gorilla tape to seal the whole thing to prevent air leakage. Take a look at my attached photos for details.EDIT: Although the photos appear to show the exhaust hoses in a horizontal position... I want to tell you that my window opens left-to-right, not up-and-down. So... my exhaust hoses are mounted in a vertical position. The larger hose is the (warm air) exhaust hose when using the system to cool the living space. So, I installed the larger hose ABOVE the smaller hose. I believe this should help with efficiency because warm air rises.I may modify the components in the future so that the end of the hoses is separated by more distance (to prevent air expelled by the exhaust hose from being sucked-in by the intake hose).EDIT: After I bought my first unit from SmartSurplus on that big e-auction website, I decided to buy another one. The second unit arrived damaged. It looked like it was dropped during shipping. The seller asked me to send them pictures of the damage. Then, the seller sent me another unit. I didn't need to send the damaged unit back to the seller. They didn't charge me anything extra. The replacement unit works fine. Unfortunately, they didn't send any of the hoses/accessories with the replacement unit. I was hoping to receive a set of hoses/accessories so that I would have some spare parts. But I didn't need to pay for return shipping or any of that hassle.Another edit... December 2018: I have had two or three opportunities to use it as a heater. It is way more efficient than the electric baseboard heaters in my apartment. I have used it when the outdoor temperature is down to the high teens (15-19 degrees Fahrenheit), and it cranks out plenty of heat. My only complaint is that the condensate tank fills up in a single day. The condensate tank is very small. It doesn't fill up when cooling... but it fills up quickly when heating. So, I have ordered the Little Giant condensate pump here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SM342Q/ I bought tubing and fittings at Home Depot to connect hoses to the upper condensate drain. RIght now, I am running the heater to confirm that the upper drain will drain down into a container, while the lower drain stays dry. I will update my review after I have proven results.

Cools 500 sq ft Master bed and bag well
The unit works great! Cools the room quickly. I have not tried the heat, but it cools my master bed and bath well and it's over 500 Sq Ft: Only downside is the window mount for the exhaust hoses is a little on the cheep side. They expect you to screw it into your windows to hold it in place which does not make it portable. Need to improve the window mounting accessories and it would be 5 star!

Probably the Quietest portable AC out there. I had put hours into research comparing the Quietest.
So far I love it. If you do your due diligent s you will find that this portable AC is rated at probably the quietest. It states 50 db on low which I tested and it's a stretch. It's more like 55-57 db according to my meter, although my meter reading with it off is 42 db. Quietness was Very Important to me, I hate a loud AC. Plus it's cools better than my other one, although it was 10 years old with older technology. I did put insulation on the hoses because of the 115 degree exhaust heat. ( R8 Insulated Flexible Duct with Metalized Jacket). Helps in noise reduction too. I have never had to empty the water tank yet, it sends it out the exhaust. But like I said, it's very quiet for a portable. Happy so far!

Absolute Useless
Absolutely useless most expensive crap I have ever came across!!! Sounds like a tractor and has 0 effect!!! Gave it right back!!! Do not buy portable AC ever, this was my 7th useless purchase. 14k btu couldn't cool off 700 sq.ft room for a degree!!! Room actually became more hot because of the hit from the motor!!!

Great design, reliable, and cools my 2,300 sq. Ft home no problem
I love everything about it honestly, it has every feature I could ask for, it’s very nice looking and is well designed. The hoses and Installation kit are durable thick plastic and are SUPER easy to install, the window piece is a very smart convenient design and the hoses can spin and adjust easily. I almost never need to drain it either. I can also attest to its reliability as we bought the same one 5 years ago that is still in service but due to unfortunate circumstances it’s no longer in my home, but I had to have another as for me it can cool or heat a MUCH larger area then advertised relatively easily, but don’t be disappointed if it can’t do that for you, after all it is rated by professionals to effectively cool 600 sq. Ft and you cannot reasonably expect anymore. My home is approximately 2,300 sq. Ft and I have the unit located near my central stair well with a large ceiling fan above witch is probably the reason the unit is able to effectively air condition my whole house.

Disappointed in performance
Installed and works ok. But only dropped temperature in my insulated shop by 3-4 degrees on an 84 degree day here in Georgia. Unit ran for 2 hours for a small drop. Unit is rated for 600 sq ft, my shop is 240 so when I bought I assumed it would cool better than it really does. Based on this, I don;t see how the unit will have any affect next summer when days hit the 90's

Works perfectly to cool a pretty large space - and we now own 14 of these units!!!
Perfect.... our chiller in our 11 story high rise condo building is starting to fail, and I own 19 of the 79 condos in the building... so I think I'm up to around 14 of these units so far. And they're absolutely PERFECT for what we need. They'll cool a 720sqft, 880sqft, 916sqft, and 1144sqft condo nicely. Granted, we're in Arizona where it's dry and they operate a lot more efficiently... but they're the perfect solution compared to spending thousands of dollars to replace an air handler unit. We love them, we could not recommend these highly enough, and I don't think that you'll be disappointed if you live in a relatively dry climate. BTW, we place these in sliding glass doors so we don't use a window attachment - instead we use a PetSafe pet door, size medium, and then cut two holes into the plastic 'security door' portion of the dog door. Again, works perfectly!!!

Should've bought new
I bought this refurbished from Amazon and it seemed to be struggling at the end of last season and does not work this season, so I assume the "refurbishment" was a leaky coil and it didn't take the fix.
