Closest thing to a perfect juicer in existence!
Best juicer ever! Although I loved my old Omega horizontal masticating juicer, its footprint is large enough to be an issue in the much smaller kitchen of our current house. After much research I ordered this one, as it seemed to have solved the issues seen with other vertical masticating juicers, including earlier Omega verticals.Straight from the box I was impressed with its heavy duty construction. Even the plastic parts seem indestructible, with perhaps the exception of the screen wiper, which is thinner and lighter by necessity. But the actual juicing experience is where I was blown away. No more leaning on the pusher to get hard veggies through. No more groaning and squeaking as the auger chops, grinds, and squeezes the food efficiently, putting out a nice dry pulp and a big volume of juice. I had no foam at all.The only tiny, tiny issue I had (I just got it an hour ago, so am still learning its ways) was that the strings from celery which I cut at about 3 inches long got stuck in the pulp output port, and I had to actually use the enclosed cleaning brush (pointy end) to dislodge it. This took maybe 2 seconds, and did not even slow down the pulp ejection. Didn't know it was there until rinsing out the bowl. Wouldn't have occurred if I had read the manual and cut the celery just a bit shorter.I juiced foods of varied degrees of hardness, all with excellent results: boxed baby greens, hard broccoli stems, fresh blueberries, Apple, orange, celery, cukes, carrots, bell pepper. The greens were the only time the pusher was used.Assembly, disassembly, and cleaning are nearly as easy as for my old Omega, which was one reason I got it and loved it all these years, discarding several other brands along today way. I will keep the old Omega as a backup, as it seems pretty much indestructible, but this VSJ843RS wins pride of place on my countertop now.

communication great, they promptly corrected the problem and sent me ...
I bought the refurbished version from Kitchen Discount seller through Amazon. for only $250. By some mistake the product arrived not complete but the seller was very cooperative, communication great, they promptly corrected the problem and sent me some more extra spare parts and even a nice book, all free of charge. I am very happy with the Kitchen Discount. The juicer really shines when juicing fruits. For vegetables we still prefer the horizontal Omega NC800HD (also got refurbished through Amazon) as there is too much foaming with veggies on VSJ843. Because the juicers are the most used appliances in our kitchen, I don't mind having 2 but I understand that everybody has their own preferences. VSJ843 is easy to clean, VERY quiet and over all easy to use. If you experience "motor problems" with harder vegetables (like carrots) when the juicer seems to struggle and the motor keeps stopping be advised that it is not the motor. It is the design. There is a magnetic "proximity" switch located at the triangle indexes of the drum and the body of the juicer. The indexes must be perfectly aligned for the switch to allow the motor to run. When hard vegetables are processed, the resulting forces bring the switch from its alignment and the motor will stop. Some people fixed this problem by taping a magnet on the body of the juicer next to the index and bypassing the whole issue. There is a video on youtube about that.

Great juicer- comparison to a Breville Juice Fountain Crush
I have one of each juicer in two locations. Simply put both work well and are clearly superior to centrifugal juicers for all the reasons listed. There are some passionate reviews complaining Breville has copied Omega ( true) but there are some differences that might sway one towards one of the two juicers. The Omega's major advantage, which might seem trivial, is the open and close valve on the juice outflow. This allows one to mix juices in the machine, and as it can be closed, also makes cleaning with water after juicing more efficient and allows one to remove the juice container without drips. The Breville does not have the outflow valve, but does have some other advantages. Assembly is easier, as the connection alignments are clearly marked, and there isn't the weird insert for the augur into the screen that is seen on the Omega. However, Breville has a gear assembly that apparently can be an issue. Also, the Breville augur is closed on the bottom and does not accumulate pulp, sometimes a problem on the Omega. Finally, the Omega is cheaper. Both work comparably, and have similar forms. I would call it a draw- the valve makes the Omega easier to use, but the assembly and augur shape favors the Breville.

Lives Up To Everything Except Anything Leafy
It really is a solid really good masticating juicer for fruits and veggies that are non-leafy. I struggled between 3.5 stars but it's not an option anyway. This being that you do have to chop your fruit and veggies up in small chunks for effective juicing and placing in the small mouth of the chute. The important downfall for me is, it is not the juicer for leafy vegetables. It just doesn't cut it - forgive the pun. Most of the leaves go unjuiced and fall into the outside container that does not get juiced or trapped in other areas. If you do juice parsley for instance, you end up putting a whole 1 bunch of parsley and get an 1/8 of an inch of output. Forget basil, it doesn't juice that at all. That's kinda disappointing considering how expensive it is, you want it to juice everything under the sun that can be juiced...aka do the full job it's meant to. If you're not going to use it for anything leafy though, then it's an excellent juicer. Keep in mind it's my first juicer and was major splurge for me, as I needed it for health reasons. I did a bunch of exhaustive research and this is the one that came up that was slow mastication, easy to use and clean, did not take up a large amount of space that I don't have and discarded pulp for most part dry, at over budget but willing to stretch as was in desperate need of something also durable. There were better ones I found, that say they slow masticate leafy everything, but they were a couple of hundred dollars more. Maybe I should have gone there, to get the leafy veg and herbs benefit, I don't know. If anyone has suggestions or other feedback, would love to hear it.

Very happy.
As advertised, this is a great juicer. It goes through everything very smoothly and after a full year of use, I haven't had any issues at all. As long as you follow some simple tips like alternating hard and soft fruits/vegetables, this machines never jams either.I'm very happy with this purchase and I'm love drinking the juice. Very happy with this purchase.
