101 70s Rock Anthems / Various

Totally bare bones 2017 Spectrum Music (Europe) 5-disc box set of 101 hits from the 1970s (20 tracks/ disc except for #3 at 21); times are 78, 78, 79, 79 & 76 minutes. Just like listening to '70s FM rock radio. All tracks are original recordings & in stereo; selections lean to the British side – after all, it is a Brit comp - so some songs may not be familiar to the casual music fan. A few tracks are live (like Nils Lofgren’s Cry Tough, or The Moody Blues’ Question, which is a 1980 version w/the London Symphony Orchestra). Sound is great (re-mastered??), & playback volume between songs is (not totally) consistent (OK for making your own comp(s) from a computer – btw, Windows Media Player recognizes all the disc info). No info except for song title/ artist on back cover of the 5-fold cardboard case; each disc slides into separate open-at-each-end slots & are very hard to slide out – I had to use the eraser on a pencil end to carefully push the discs out. Also pick up the companion 5-disc set, 101 70s Hits, by the same label; w/the 2 box sets, I ended up w/5 ripped & burned CD collections of just the tracks I wanted to listen to over & over. BTW, not all tracks are '70s releases, but they were recorded in the '70s (.38 Special/ Rockin’ in to the Night; Diesel/ Sausolito Summernight; Pat Benatar/ We Live for Love, were all released in ’80). For me this set gets extra points for the inclusion of tracks from Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep, The Motors & Status Quo (a sorely overlooked band in the U.S.)!

Great price for 5 CDs. A great mix of well-known classics and songs that I wasn't familiar with but are fantastic. I will be listening to this one a lot.

I love these CD's!! WELL WORTH the money. Some of the "anthems" are little known songs by little known artists, but that's okay they are still good songs!! One never gets too old to hear new stuff. I'm no wall flower when it comes to classic rock, but I'm no Rock Encyclopedia either. SOME of the songs come up at a different sound level, but I can live w/ that....I play mine loud anyway. Rock on.

This was a gift for my husband. He said it has a good mix of music, with songs he knows.

Worth the purchase! Some very cool songs on here from my "younger" years...

We just love all the music on this cd. So many recordings all together. Great mix!

Discs are in very tight cardboard sleeves which scratch them. Also the songs are abbreviated versionsthat cut out some important riffs.

What a great collection of mostly European hits but finally I have a copy of Diesel's Saulsalito Summer Nights
