Tool to manage rambunctious Australian Shepherd puppy
I am a competitive Obedience trainer and judge, and normally steer students toward front attachment harnesses for just exercise walking (never in training, as harnesses are never permitted in competition). A new pup joined our family, so I chose to conduct play sessions outdoors, with the pup attached to a long line until his Recall is 100% dependable (previous experience has shown me this might need 18 months). On a long line, I can pull him out of danger and still allow him to explore without me hovering 3 feet away - and, he can play chase, wrestle, and puppy chew face games with our 7 year old Aussie female. The harness I used for the female when she was a pup, couldn't be adjusted small enough for the new character, so I purchased this one in Small, seeing the size ranges and knowing he'd be able to use this for at least the next 5 months. The secure back strap and strong metal ring for leash attachment, means the little guy can run, play, and roll, and when he gets to the end of the long line, he is pulled back at his shoulders, rather than getting whiplash if the line was attached to his collar. The reflective stitching shows very well at night (useful for taking pup out to potty at 2:30am). At age 10 weeks, he's currently 11 lbs, and both the front and belly straps are set as small as they can be set, and still a bit loose (which means in some of the crazy wrestling sessions, he manages to get a paw in between the folded over sections; I just stop him for a moment and reposition the harness for safety). His formal competitive training classes will all be done using a collar, as this is required for shows. However, this harness is a useful MANAGEMENT tool for outdoor play; eventually when he graduates to playing fetch in a big field, with his Aussie housemate, he will drag a long line from that back ring until he can be trusted to return absolutely every time he is called....and I will have a better chance of catching him if he's being a knucklehead! All dogs have what is called an "opposition reflex." When they feel resistance anywhere, instinct prompts them to push against the resisting force. Humans have know this for centuries; sled dogs and draft dogs feeling resistance in their shoulders, don't back away from the resistance, they lean INTO it, and thus pull sleds, carts, and wagons. This is why so many dogs are inveterate leash pullers - when they feel resistance in their collars, instinct makes them pull harder, enough to gag, cough, and choke themselves....they biologically aren't "wired" to understand the solution is to stop pulling, stop resisting...and the choking will go away. Dogs must be trained to walk on a loose leash - competitive trainers do this all the time, but we can also tell the general public it is a skill acquired through THOUSANDS of hours of practice, never once letting the dog take a single step forward if tension is felt at all, on the leash. Most people don't have the time or patience to teach this skill; thus, dogs develop awful habits as leash pullers, drag their people around like farm equipment behind a runaway horse, risking all sorts of human injuries, as any dog over 20 lbs, will be stronger than the strongest human. Using a harness like this one, is never going to "teach" a dog not to pull on leash. However, it can still be safely used for play, and especially for keeping a long line from getting tangled in a dog's legs, as he runs and romps in the great outdoors - and gives me a safe way to stop forward progress by stepping on that 50ft line as he zooms by.Great management tool. Highly recommended - just don't expect it to solve leash pulling problem.

Nicely made
Our golden is very tall and thin, I feel like it doesnt fit him perfect. The company was very responsive and sent me pictures of how to secure it. My dog can back out of it if he wants. He just turned 2 and is a puller, he is not use to a harness, we are working on it. It probably is an operator error and not a design error. It has padded straps and looks to be comfortable for him. I have seen other harnesses that the straps are thin and look uncomfortable if they dig into their coat. Its easy to put on and off, just one clip and the harness can stay on the leash. Our other harness clips under the leash attachment rings and you have to remove the leash to unclip and clip the harness. I wish the clip for the leash didnt move around and was secure on the handle. We have a zip line leash which is heavy and moves the ring to the side if he is walking next to me, which starts to move the harness out of position. I dont want the harness too tight or he starts trying to bite it. Again, operator error. He has chewed through so many leashes our leash is heavy duty. The handle is nice to have, some harnesses dont have an extra area to grip. If he sees a deer or another animal, I like that I can hold the leash and the harness to have him stop and sit. It is made well and does not seem flimsy. I am not sure how the no pull feature works, he still pulls but at least he is not still using his prong collar.

great harness but NOT FOR AGGRESSIVE PULLERS!
Not for aggressive pullers...I have a 20 lb dog that pulls like a 100lb rottie. I've tried several things for the pulling. although this is the easiest harness to put on and i believe the most comfortable harness for him to wear it just doesn't help with the pulling at all...It is however the only one I've kept even tho he still pulls b/c of its ease and comfort.. I use it on hikes.advise on pulling ones tho since i've bought about 7 options from amazon are:GENTLE LEADER (works great for my goldens pulling but hes pretty chill & got used to wearing it in just a cpl walks, been using it for 12 years on him) but this lil guy gets it off in 2 seconds flat every time so that got returned.HALTI / WALK N TRAIN head collar... this one he could not get off no matter how hard he tried and I was relieved I found the one!! but after 4 weeks of dragging him behind me b/c hes trying to get it off the entire time I returned...hes just a stubborn lil dude that wouldn't get used to wearing it, it was embarrassing to walk him. but its worth a try for you if you have a puller.YUP! NON PULLING MESH HARNESS... looked comfortable for him..harder to get on than the dexdog b/c you have to pull it behind their front legs but it did absolutely nothing for the pulling, returned!**PETSAFE EASY WALK HARNESS**!...this does stop the pulling!! but its such an akward fit and gets pulled left and right when they walk...I just ordered a size smaller to see if that helps, my dog is kinda odd shaped being short and long with a bow chest but I'm SO HOPEFULL that this will be the right one for me...I already know the pulling has stopped so as long as I get the fit right it'll be the one I use daily and the DEXDOG for hikes!hope this helps you, I know I coulda used a detailed review before spending 100's on collars and harnesses..ha. good luck!
