A very good cooker with fixable quirks that makes amazing rice
This Cuckoo rice cooker is well designed and priced competitively to compare well with Big Japan rice cookers. Our household eats white rice almost every day, and we have experienced many cookers from multiple companies. We decided to look at high tier rice cookers with pressure cooking & induction heating because we eat rice every single day and wanted to know if we were missing something special.Browsing Amazon, the only pressure induction rice cookers I found were by Cuckoo and Zojirushi, with Zojirushi costing about $200 more than the Cuckoo cookers. I decided to give the Korean brand a try.Initial impressions: I don't speak Korean, how do I make this cooker be quiet? Ok, I found a way to mute the voice. The rice cooker needs to be cleaned by using the steam function before its first use to get rid of some of the new plastic smell. Very heavy and solidly built. The cooking process is louder than any normal rice cooker because of the pressure. The cooking pot feels hefty and definitely gives off a durable vibe. This rice cooker is very versatile. If you take a deep dive into the instruction manual, there are 16 modes of cooking plain white rice. 16!! The default mode leaves the rice dense and sticky, which is kind of enjoyable already, but you can change both the soaking time or heating temperature during the cooking process (with 4 variable options) for a more chewy and light texture. Since you can cook so many textures of rice, it's a lot easier to stomach eating rice daily. It's been a month and we've cooked white rice with this cooker at least 20 times now. Cuckoo's rice is completely customizable, so you can have sticky rice one day, and fluffy rice the next. It's really nice to have that flexibility, and we haven't even tried the other modes yet. The pressure gives the white rice a special kind of texture (fluffier and stickier) that I didn't find in cheaper models and we love it. The improvement is distinguishable, but it's not a world of difference. Maybe 5-10% better.Speaking strictly about cooking white rice in this review, this Cuckoo cooker won't disappoint, and hopefully it continues to make us rice for years to come.Edit: It’s 2025 and this rice cooker is still chugging along! I have settled on setting 2 for soak time and setting 3 for heat. We use it almost daily and it’s been the best white rice I’ve had, even when I go out I’m indirectly comparing this rice to theirs! Haven’t needed to replace the pot either, I just clean the pot with water and a washcloth. I bought a friend a smaller Cuckoo IH/pressure rice cooker which should be comparable and honestly this cooker makes way better rice 😳

Good cooker but a little complicated
I got this cooker at a great price from Amazon Resale "Like New" and it was indeed like new. It looked like it was never even unpacked. Out of the box we found the cooked rice to be too hard but after reading the extensive manual we started to get rice the way we liked it. For instance, to cook brown rice use the Gaba water level, the mixed rice mode, and softness set to maximum. There is also a savory setting, but we haven't figured that one out. Our old Cuchen cooker had better default settings and was easier to operate. Also, this cooker has Korean voice prompts, but those can be disabled if you prefer. The one thing I really dislike about virtually all smart rice cookers, including this one, is that the clock battery is not user changeable. It usually lasts about 3 years and then the cooker requires surgery to transplant a new one. It's not difficult but requires finding a suitable battery (usually 1/2 AA lithium), opening the cooker, and using a soldering iron. Also, a quirk of this and many of these cookers is that once the rice has finished cooking it stays in keep-warm mode. The only way to turn it off at this point it to unplug it. I believe this is to help prevent poisoning which is common with cooked rice.

Update - Cuckoo IH Rice Cooker HS0657F
Update 3: still impress with rice cooker. I added a page from the manual of what’s included with the package.Update 2: Been cooking with the GABA function, it is awesome for nutritiously cooking brown rice. Excellent rice texture while helping digestion. Put back the star I took away to 5 stars. Many parts can be disassembled for cleaning. Do that and you'll have good clean tasting rice every time.Update: Took one star away from the 5 star review. I have not been able to set the cooker to English. It is not in the paper manual. I looked through the web and it seemed the black version could be programmed to English instruction while no information on the white one. I have to study Korean to cook rice.First impression of the Cuckoo IH HS0657F rice cooker is very good. Every component is well built and feel very solid. The inner pot is made of thick steel with a very nice nonstick coating. Nothing like the aluminum inners found in many low priced cooker. The inner pot outer wall is beautifully finished in gold tone. The white plastic finish on the outside is uniform. The unit is made in Korea. I will update as I use it.First impression is 5 stars.Pros Fit and finish is first class. Beautiful and quality inner pot. The X Wall Diamond pot is worth the price. Stainless steel construction of the detachable cover and Control Plate are thick and beautifully finished. Not cheap but great value for the money.Cons Lots of functions means lots of reading before first use. Simple time changing means digging in the manual. The cooker is default in Korean. And quite loud. I was going to set it up and surprise my wife. But never mind.

So Impressed!
Just received it and used it for regular white rice. Fast forward 20 min later, the best rice I've had for years came out. Moving from $15 walmart rice cooker to this one is a huge jump and I can definitely tell the difference in the quality. the only bad part is low-carb diet just got so much harder with this little piece of magic!the cleaning is extremely easy. The inner pot does not stick at all. and most parts are removable so they can be cleaned easily. The rice cooker even came with steam cleaning option but I heard from some friends that it only does a mediocre job.IH technology + pressure cooking did the charm cooking rice fast and evenly. The main reason I bought this Cuckoo rice cooker is that my 5 yr old $20 rice cooker started sticking and takes forever to cook. Cleaning was hard as it almost always requires presoaking, and 2 cups of brown rice takes over an hour to cook. It had gotten really annoying coming home at 6pm knowing everything would be cooked in 20 min but rice won't be ready. So if you are currently using a cheap rice cooker and hesitant about the price, click buy. there is no going back once you tried the good rice.Addition 6/20/2020I tried to cook mixed brown and white rice under turbo mode and it worked like magic. I was used to my brown rice being dry and hard so that I don’t eat much, but with this one, I could hardly tell it was brown rice and ended up finishing my entire bowl. So much for low carb lol

Love this rice cooker
We purchased this appliance without any prior experience with this brand. I am thankful we did. It looks nice, is easy to clean, and cooks brown rice so well that you can’t even tell you’re eating healthy rice. We cook our brown rice using the GABA function and it comes out perfectly. I understand that you can use the rice cooker for other functions but we haven’t used that yet. My only issue is that I was unable to switch the language to English. It’s not a big deal since everything on the machine is in English. I just cannot understand the voice prompts.

It's good, but not great. Value/cost is not the best
I have used quite a few rice cookers, including the generic ones, instantpot, zojirish (high end and average). Before this, I was using the instant pot since I wanted to minimize the numbers of appliance on the counter... Pressure cooker and rice cooker are the must have for me. The instant pot does both. However, the instantpot is ugly (at least to me). It cooks fine and it's multifunctional. Rice cooking is not the best, but it's fast (especially compared to Zojirushi). And if you want better rice, just immerse the rice for a while before cooking, you will get Zojirushi level rice.Anyway, Bought this cuckoo rice cooker because it looks good and there are good reviews about this brand.Good:-Looks good-Quality is good (heavy and well coated inner pot) good craftsmanship-Really a dedicated rice machine if you are a rice guru. It lets you customize how you want cook the rice. (for me, it seems too complicated)-faster than zojirushiBad-No option of pressure cooking for other food ( i was surprised since it's basically a pressure cooker but is NOT given the option of manual pressure cooking)-Voice seems to be korean only ( i had to mute it)-Menu navigation is not intuitive-Pricey-havn't produced noticeably better rice cooking result than Instantpot (immerse rice first), maybe I need to try moreAnyway, overall it's a good rice cooker. It cooks rice and rice variations only. Not for other food.
